reetings, and welcome! For more than a quarter of a century (26 years), this massive undertaking, we call the Bank of the Cascades Bend Summer Festival, has been breathing life into the streets of Downtown Bend~ henceforth, this is your invitation to join us on Friday, July 8th, from 5pm to 11pm, Saturday July 9th from 11am to 11pm, and Sunday July 10th from 11am to 5pm. Evolution. In 1991, 16 artists set up their booths in Mirror Pond parking lot, Curtis Salgado provided the tunes, and a festival was born. Boasting, now, more than 300 different vendors, seven square blocks, three musical stages, something artful for kids, foodies, arties, audiophiles, and conscious livers, the 2016 version of the festival is simply astonishing. Or, in the words of rock-star festival director, Michelle Roats, “it’s a biggie.” Pulling back the curtain. “In all chaos there is a cosmos, in all disorder a secret order.” ~ Carl Jung. In our festival cosmos, there is incessant chaos, that time and again gives birth to the combination of collection, community, and beauty. There are many pristine agents at work in festival production. It is cool to book, present, and hang with world-class musicians such as Ivan Neville and Blind Pilot, and a pure joy to experience the finest of Bend’s local music scene. It is humbling to witness the extraordinary work of our “Best of Jury,” and “Best of Show,” fine artists (and all the other talented artists who join our festival). It is inspiring to partner with the enthusiasm of City of Bend staffer, Cheryl Howard, and to see, first hand, the thoughtful expansion of our festival under her hard work and blessings. It is rewarding to see the thousands of attendees flocking to the festival and celebrating all of Downtown Bend as one of the most spectacular places to shop, dine, and play in all of the Pacific Northwest. And it is a pleasure to meet and work with so many different fine and lovely people from Bend and around the country. It is also, though, about running out of ice, scrambling to find water barrels, emptying a thousand pounds of garbage, managing porta-potties, exacting diplomacy, setting things up and tearing things down, closing roads, counting inventory, sweeping streets, chasing down run away golf carts, navigating policy changes, keeping eyes up, overcoming fatigue, getting screamed at, inspecting tent weights, hanging banners, managing complaints, staying hydrated, building countless things, and rounding up

more than 100 managers, staff, contractors, volunteers, and security. And that’s your look. It’s all here: hours and hours and hours of all sides of this paradox. Collection. Community. Beauty. Chaos. On Tap. And so what will be born from this place on this week-end? All ages will enjoy a feast for all senses. Your eyes will delight in the many works of more than 125 talented artisans, crafters, and importers. Local luminary, Deschutes Brewery, will ensure that there will be terrific micro-brews available, and food vendors and restaurants to will supply the entire gamut of gastronomic delights! The art of sound comes alive on the Peak 104.1 Mainstage with Larry and His Flask, Blind Pilot, Ivan Neville and Dumpstaphunk, and Curtis Salgado. Ian James and Precious Byrd will fire up the KQAK stage, and Seattle’s Kalimba, a tribute to Earth Wind and Fire, will be performing with the Latin Groove Band, Sambrosa, on the Cascade Sotheby’s International Realty Jazz, Wine, and Gourmet Food Stage. Saxon’s Fine Jewelers “Soul Brunch” Sunday, will feature the soulful sounds of Kalimba (the EWF Tribute Band) along with Curtis Salgado and Brownish Black. And the Local’s Only Stage, will feature some of Bend’s top and emerging artists, including Jive Coulis, Wayward Soul, Moon Mountain Ramblers and Nomads. Other features of the event include a terrific family area, the Cascade Sotheby’s Jazz Wine and Gourmet Foods street featuring more than 28 gourmet food and wine vendors. And there’s a block full of conscious living vendors, led by Jim Cone, offering tips and services to live a healthier life! And, of course, there is no admission to the festival-- largely due to continued generosity of our most amazing partner, Bank of the Cascades! Live it! This is the fine art festival, that is a music festival, that is a wine and gourmet food festival, that is a children’s festival, that is a conscious living festival, that is an imported goods festival, that is a food and spirits festival, that is a performing arts festival. So join us to live it, taste it, chew it, view it, and hear it, (got it?) at the Bank of the Cascades Bend Summer Festival presented by Hayden Homes and The Source Weekly!

Bend Oregon based band Jones Road brings their unique blend of Northwest alternative and rock with a hint of country to the stage.

There aren’t adequate words to describe the magic that Naomi and Rob bring into a living room.. Naomi’s lyrics come from a deep place withing her to touch the hearts of everyone listening, and her vocal is pure honey.

Yak Attack will make you dance. Founded in Portland, OR in 2013, the live electronica trio has been making waves in the local scene and expanding its fan base regionally in its short history. Electronic and traditional genres including house, breakbeat, downtempo, jazz, and funk, tight compositions seamlessly blended with improvisation, and frequent contributions from guest musicians define a typical Yak show.

¡Chiringa! ¡Chiringa! is a four-piece Latin dance party band based in Bend, Oregon that plays a variety of classic to modern covers in their own rockified way. ¡Chiringa! puts on a most dynamic show, representing a diversity of Latin styles including cumbia, salsa, merengue, bachata, tango, samba, Latin rock and more. They aren’t even trying to be your hot LA salsa band, but take what they know and create the most authentic and accessible sound possible, never relinquishing flavor and appealing just as much to the seasoned Latin dancer as the regular booty shaker. All are invited to do their sexy dance on the dance floor.

Larry and His Flask Larry and His Flask are a high energy, five-piece carnival of a band that incorporate rock, folk, bluegrass, soul, brass band, punk and alt-country into their own unique sound. Some people call what they do “folk-punk”, others call it “a bluegrass traveling circus” and everyone who’s seen them live rightfully call Larry and His Flask “down right WILD”. But no matter what you call it, this is a band that has to be seen to be believed.

With the soulful vocals of Ray LaMontagne, the catchy lyrics of Jack Johnson, and the powerful music of Mumford and Son’s and the Revivalists, Lance Kinnaird’s “Bright Nights” incorporates everything that we love about popular alternative music. While keeping the instrumentation largely natural and acoustic, Lance’s music still manages to incorporate many of the best sounds of new music today and pulls you in with catchy lyrics that will have you singing his tunes all day long.

Taarka A modern string band that draws from jazz, bluegrass, pop, rock, songwriting, celtic, new acoustic, and classical music.

Dumpstaphunk Dumpstaphunk stands out among New Orleans’ best as one of the funkiest bands to ever arise from the Crescent City. Born on the Jazz & Heritage Festival stage, and descended from Neville family bloodlines, these soldiers of funk ignite a deep, gritty groove that dares listeners not to move. Their performances combine ingenious musicianship and complex funk and jazz arrangements with soulful melodies that are simple enough for anyone to enjoy.

Blind Pilot We Are The Tide, the sophomore album from Portland-based band Blind Pilot, follows the band’s grassroots break-out debut, 3 Rounds and a Sound, which has sold over 50,000 units to date and was featured in NPR’s “Best Music of 2008” roundup. Recorded at Type Foundry in Portland, OR during the spring of 2011, the new album was produced by the band and Skyler Norwood and mixed by Tucker Martine (The Decemberists, My Morning Jacket). Blind Pilot began in 2007 when Israel (vocals, guitar) and Ryan (drums) embarked on a West Coast bicycle tour playing mostly to unfamiliar listeners at small-town venues. The band now exists as a 6-piece ensemble featuring fellow Oregonians Luke Ydstie (upright bass, backing vocals), Kati Claborn (banjo, dulcimer, backing vocals), Ian Krist (vibraphones) and Dave Jorgensen (keyboards, trumpet). In the years since its inception, the band has toured with various world-renowned musicians including The Decemberists, Josh Ritter, The Low Anthem, Laura Viers and Andrew Bird and have appeared at the Sasquatch! Music Festival, Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits and the Outside Lands Music & Arts Festival. Additionally, multiple music placements have been confirmed in episodes of “Chuck,” “Covert Affairs” and “One Tree Hill.”

Tiffany Clark comes from the hospitality industry, where most recently she has been working as a Vice President for Operations and Marketing at a Texas Gulf home community, called Seahorse. Previously, she served as the Vice President of Marketing for Pronghorn Properties. She is a distiller of soul, a creator of beauty. Everything she touches (artist coordination, general counsel, event development) turns to gold.

Cameron Clark, Owner, Meddler Cameron is a fluoroquinolone toxicity survivor, a cancer survivor and a dad. He finds his greatest joy in spending time with his daughters Cecilia Grace (11) and Liliana-Kayce-Marie (8). He has been producing award winning events since 1984 (32 years). He is passionate about building community and looks forward to a great festival.

Kirsten Staack, Operations Manager Kirsten came to us in 2014. She ran lead operations for the NorthWest Crossing Saturday Farmers’ Market, and quickly established herself as an elite operations force, capable of doing the work of several staff all at once. She is highly skilled, her work ethic is off the charts, and her attitude is extraordinary- she is a gem, and will run a crew with incredible precision and detail. We love her spirit and drive. Irreplaceable.

Michelle Roats, Event Consultant A veteran leader of C3 Events and Bend, Oregon native, Michelle Roats proved to be one of the finest in C3 Events history. Now, with her company Roats Productions, Michelle helps to direct the Bend Spring, Summer and Fall Festivals. Michelle is breathing fresh energy into these favorite Bend community events. The festivals have thrived under her talented, highly organized and dynamic ways.

Jami Garrett, Bookkeeping A long time local bookkeeper, Jami manages to create systems and develop protocol that keeps all the assorted accounting, on site, on track. A deeply spiritual soul, Jami brings both angels and math skills to our festivals (and you can’t possibly have enough of either!).

Bradley Paul O’Neal, Graphic Design, Special Ops Lead Bradley is a brilliant fine artist, and a talented drummer. After graduating from Western Washington University with a degree in Graphic Design, Bradley with his great, big, heart, took his first design gig with Microsoft, and found that he was missing something. In search of existential answers- Brad moved to his sacred place, Bend, Oregon, in the winter of 2014, and lends C3 Events, now, his massive, creative, design skills.

Kristin Calahane, Lead Intern Kristin is a recent University of Oregon graduate. As a design major, she has a keen sense for the details. With her quiet nature, she takes it “all” in and then produces beauty. We are so glad you’re with us, Kristin!

Jim Kone, Conscious Living Showcase Coordinator

Molly Hogan, Intern

Jim launched this grass roots street dedicated to non-profits, mom and pop businesses, green living, and healthy lifestyles four seasons ago. It’s all about community. Jim’s history in green building, and owning his own steel construction company has made him a massive asset for our team.

Molly also comes to us from the University of Oregon. With only two weeks under her belt before the festival, Molly will be thrown into the preverbial fire, but we know she’s got what it takes! Thank you for your drive and ambition – we’re already impressed!

Erika Erkel, Jazz Food and Wine Coordinator

THANKS YOU!

Tiffany Clark, Art and Soul

Brooke Bennett, Information

Erika, coordinates the Cascade Sotheby’s Jazz Food and Wine street with a wealth of knowledge and keen eye for “the details”. Erika continues to take this street to the next level by infusing it with her own sense of style and taste.

We hope Brooke will take a job with us someday. Why? She’s amazing! This recent graduate is impressive and has a maturity that has led her to volunteer for our events for many years. This year, Brooke will be the smiling face at our information zone all weekend long.

Rainie Stein, ADA Compliance Manager

Jen Peterson, All-Around

Among many other things, this tri-athlete and mother-of-two will help to ensure that the Bend Summer Festival remains accessible to our community members. Rainie will be available to help with any ADA or security related questions or concerns for all event attendees.

If there’s one thing we love at C3, it’s our folks who come back year-after-year all because they love our events! When Jen isn’t working at Touchmark, she’s helping us three times per year produce festivals. We love her spirit and positivity. We’re so thankful you’re back, Jen!

Kirsten Morrell, COPA Kids’ Zone, Food Vendor and Special Event Assistant

Natalie Fletcher, Fine Artist Promenade Coordinator

A native Bendite and recent graduate of the University of Oregon, Kirsten joined the C3 in 2015 as lead intern. We were so impressed that we hired her!
