BOND Civil & Utility installed a cast-in-place concrete utility tunnel beneath Western Ave. in Allston, MA to facilitate future installation of thermal utility piping to feed Harvard’s Allston campus.

A large headhouse structure was constructed on the Charlesview property at the north side of Western Ave. Once the headhouse was complete, BOND Civil & Utility rerouted the full width of Western Ave. onto the Charlesview property and on top of the now buried headhouse. This included both lanes of travel, bike lanes, sidewalks, street lighting and drainage. The detour allowed for the installation of approx 80 LF of tunnel beneath the existing Western Ave. and the installation of a smaller south headhouse and tunnel to tie into the Science and Engineering Complex (SEC) building foundation.
