Dinner Party at Linden O
n Wednesday, February 3, 2021, historic Linden served as the backdrop for a dinner party, sponsored by Brenda and Binkey Vines and hosting oil and gas investors. Owner, Jeanette Feltus, and Marjorie Feltus Hawkins greeted guests and shared stories about Linden and the family. Dinner was served in the main dining room and the music room. First up are tomatoes since I get the most questions about them. Garden Gem tomatoes were selected DV ZLQQHUV LQ DQG WKLV YDULHW\ KDV proven to be a great performing tomato. *DUGHQ *HPV KDYH D EXVK\ VHPL GHWHUPLQDWH JURZWK KDELW WKDW JURZV RQO\ to about 42 inches tall, which is perfect for P\ JDUGHQLQJ SUHIHUHQFHV
The fruits are about 2 inches in diameter and plentiful. I JUHZ *DUGHQ *HPV LQ ERWK P\ spring and fall tomato seasons. As the staff wrapped up 2020, they played with llamas, a bird, and couple of therapy dogs, provided by Mississippi Therapy Animals. Employees enjoyed a surprise visit from the Grinch; and, of course, Santa Claus made his way through the hospital. The much awaited arrival of the COVID-19 vaccine in late December, administered to employees and physicians, was an important step in helping to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. Books with a Purpose: A Journey Home and A Garden Tale

wo unique books for young readers recently made their debuts in Mississippi’s Pike and Warren Counties, tomes that enrich, educate, and inspire with their unique and timely information and experiences. A Journey Home, written by Sara Hemphill and illustrated by Emily Lackey Anderson, is an imaginary tale of a young bird, a tale told to entertain children and show them how people along life’s journey can offer invaluable help to others. The proceeds of the publication go to the
501c3 Pike Animal League and Shelter, Inc., a local animal rescue organization in Southwest Mississippi. Beautifully written and illustrated, this book was spearheaded by lifelong volunteer Gay Austin, who has travelled throughout the world serving as a local, state, national, and international garden club member. The Metro Jackson Heart Ball is a year-round campaign that supports the life-saving mission of the American Heart Association. It is the largest source of revenue for the organization in the state of Mississippi, contributing nearly $7 million since its inception. The funds raised support local research, community programs, hospital education, CPR training, and much more. The event typically features a formal seated dinner, silent and live auctions, and an “Open Your Heart” appeal, which spotlights a different Honoree each year. Plans are on hold due to the current pandemic but will resume this Spring/Summer if public safety has been restored. he Rexes and Queen Rosalies of the Natchez Mardi Gras Krewe of Phoenix held their annual Monarch Brunch on Sunday, January 31, 2021, at historic Magnolia Hall in downtown Natchez, Mississippi. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the regular Mardi Gras season turned its focus from large gatherings for parades, parties, and celebrations to home-and-yard decorations featured as Yardi Gras.

H EURNH WUDGLWLRQ ODVW \HDU DQG WRRN RXU VXPPHU WULS WR WKH PRXQWDLQV DURXQG (XUHND 6SULQJV $UNDQVDV 8VXDOO\ we are found on an Alabama or Florida beach in the hot VXQ DQG HQGOHVV VDQG WKDW WKH EHDFK DIIRUGV 1HYHU P\ FXS RI WHD EXW , DOZD\V ZHQW EHFDXVH WKH JLUOV DQG WKH ODWHU JUDQGFKLOGUHQ WKDW l acquired preferred the white sands and blue waters of the Gulf of 0H[LFR WR DQ\WKLQJ FRROHU DQG OHVV VDQG\ ,W WRRN DOO GD\ WR JHW WR QRUWKHUQ $UNDQVDV VLQFH ZH KDG VKRSSLQJ VWRSV DQG IRRG VWRSV DORQJ WKH ZD\ :H JRW WKHUH DW QLJKW DQG WKH *36 V\VWHPV LQ WKH WUXFNV KDG XV FUHHSLQJ DORQJ RQ GDUN PRXQWDLQ URDGV ZLWK QDU\ D OLJKW DURXQG WR KHOS JXLGH WKH ZD\ -* DQG , ZHUH SUHWW\ VXUH WKDW &ODLUH DQG -RULH KDG JRWWHQ XV ORVW LQ WKH GDUNQHVV EXW DIWHU QXPHURXV WZLVWV DQG WXUQV ZH SXOOHG LQWR WKH \DUG RI WKH camp that Claire had rented. :H ZHUH GHOLJKWHG ZLWK RXU DFFRPPRGDWLRQV D WZR VWRU\ FDPS with a guest house, situated on the shores of a beautiful lake. I was TXLFNO\ DVVLJQHG WKH JXHVW KRXVH DQG ZKLOH WKH JURZQXSV ZHUH XQSDFNLQJ WKH ER\V JRW WKHLU ÀVKLQJ URGV DQG KHDGHG WR WKH ODNH 7KH DLU ZDV FRRO QRW KXPLG D UHDO WUHDW IRU XV VLQFH ZH·G OHIW Catahoula Parish with temps in the 90s and the sultriness that goes with our heat. 6XQGD\ WKH ÀUVW IXOO GD\ WKHUH ZH UHVWHG DQG UHDG EURFKXUHV to plan our activities. Without going into too much boring information DERXW ´ZKDW , GLG RQ P\ YDFDWLRQ µ OHW XV VD\ WKDW ZH ZHQW VZLPPLQJ DQG ÀVKLQJ LQ ODNHV DQG WKH %XIIDOR River, fossil hunting, cave exploring, canoeing, and VFHQHU\ DGPLULQJ IRU D IXOO ZHHN 6LQFH WKH PDVN PDGQHVV ZDV LQ IXOO VZLQJ E\ WKH WLPH ZH ZHUH there, few restaurants were open; and those that were would deliver food outside to us waiting in the SUV. 1RW H[DFWO\ WKH NLQGV RI PHDOV ZH KDG hoped for. -RULH &ODLUH DQG , DUH DOO SUHWW\ JRRG FRRNV VR ZH PRVWO\ IHG RXUVHOYHV DW KRPH WKDW LV XQWLO WKH RYHQ ZHQW RXW DQG ZH ZHUH OHIW ZLWK MXVW D FRRN WRS ,W WRRN D IHZ SKRQH FDOOV DQG D FRXSOH RI GD\V WR FRQYLQFH VRPHRQH WR À[ WKH RYHQ EXW LW ZDV ÀQDOO\ done, and we could bake good things again. 7KH ORFDO JURFHU\ VWRUH ZDV QRW 5RXVHV RU .URJHU but we made do with what we could get.
