ogs are a special breed capable of arousing the strongest of emotions in mankind.� :LOH\ YV .HHQ, 404 So 2d 1025 (Miss. 1981). 7KH QHZV RI /DQGRQ 7XUQHU ZKR NLOOHG WZR SHW GRJV ZLWKRXW SURYRFDWLRQ LQ $GDPV County in 2018, has spread over much of 6RXWKZHVW 0LVVLVVLSSL 7XUQHU ZDV RQ D GHHU stand when two pet dogs were, in his opinion, interfering with his hunt; so he shot them in cold blood. Needless to say, there is no justiÀFDWLRQ IRU WKLV DFW DQG KH ZDV FRQYLFWHG XQGHU 0LVVLVVLSSL &RGH $QQRWDWHG † which is a cruelty statute and the only law that applies to these facts. It goes without saying that a person has the ULJKW WR NLOO D GRJ WKDW LV H[KLELWLQJ YLFLRXV SURpensities or is attacking a person. I had a client D IHZ \HDUV EDFN ZKR ZDV LQ $PLWH &RXQW\ Mississippi, walking through his deer lease DQG FKHFNLQJ RXW KLV GHHU VWDQGV LQ 2FWREHU ZKHQ WHQ GRJV UDQ XS RQ KLP 7KH GRJV ZHQW into pack mentality and began to attack him. Unfortunately for my client, he had only a SRFNHW NQLIH 7KH GRJV OLWHUDOO\ VKUHGGHG KLV

FORWKHV 7KH\ FKHZHG XS KLV DUPV KDQGV OHJV DQG IHHW +H GLG PDQDJH WR FXW WKUHH RI WKH dogs, but the pack was still after him. Luckily, he managed to escape by getting into a creek in waist-deep water. He told me that, had he been a child or an older man, the dogs would have killed him. :HOO JXHVV ZKDW" 7KHVH GRJV WKDW DWWDFNHG him were not wild dogs but belonged to his QHLJKERU ULJKW DFURVV WKH SURSHUW\ OLQH 7KH QHLJKERU KDG QR PRQH\ WR SD\ IRU P\ FOLHQW¡V injuries, so the best I could do for him was get an injunction against the neighbor. Had my client been carrying a gun, he would have been WRWDOO\ MXVWLĂ€HG LQ NLOOLQJ HYHU\ RQH RI WKH GRJV that were attacking him. 0&$ † WKH H[DFW ODZ WKDW OHG WR 7XUQHU¡V FRQYLFWLRQ DOVR DOORZV DQ\ FLWL]HQ WR kill a dog in defending against an attack or even GHIHQGLQJ DJDLQVW HFRQRPLF LQMXU\ $ FLWL]HQ in Mississippi also has the right to use deadly force if a vicious dog is attacking his or her pet. It has always been the law in Mississippi that the owners of livestock, including chickens, cattle, horses, mules, jennets, sheep, goats,

and pigs, may kill any dog that is chasing or endangering such livestock. In addition, law enforcement is also allowed, as are veterinarians, to euthanize stray dogs unGHU FHUWDLQ VWDWXWHV $FWXDOO\ 0LVV &RGH † 41-3 (4) allows any person acting in good faith WR HXWKDQL]H DQ DQLPDO WKDW KDV IRU H[DPSOH EHHQ DEXVHG LQMXUHG RU VWDUYHG 7KHUHIRUH LI you come upon a dog that has been run over by a car, and the dog is not dead but is severely inMXUHG LQ P\ RSLQLRQ \RX ZRXOG EH MXVWLĂ€HG LQ putting the animal out of its misery without havLQJ WR FRQVXOW ODZ RIĂ€FHUV RU D YHWHULQDULDQ )LQDOO\ PRVW VWDWHV DOVR PDNH H[FHSWLRQV IRU DQLPDOV XVHG LQ VFLHQWLĂ€F H[SHULPHQWV FLUFXPstances which I know are very controversial. I want to make sure I am clear on this advice: <RX PD\ 127 NLOO RU HXWKDQL]H D GRJ RU FDW IRU that matter) that is merely passing through your property or in your opinion is trespassing, and WKLV LQFOXGHV JHWWLQJ LQWR \RXU WUDVK 7KHUH DUH Mississippi cases going back to the 1900s that stand for this proposition. In the case of +RGJH YV &DXVH\ (Miss. Supreme Ct. 1900), a man was sued for killing a dog that was merely walking through his corn FURS 7KH &RXUW KHOG WKH PDQ OLDEOH IRU NLOOLQJ a non-aggressive dog and stated, “When it is borne in mind of what great value dogs are, the reasonableness of the general rule against the right to kill a mere trespassing dog is apparent.â€? Now, mind you, this case was decided over one hundred years ago. Virtually all states treat dogs and cats as “personal property.â€? In the event that someone wrongfully and maliciously kills your animal, and you sue the person civilly, your measure of “damagesâ€? is in the YDOXH RI the dog or cat and not the sentimental loss you realL]H 7KLV LV WUXH HYHQ LI \RX YLHZ \RXU GRJ DV IDPLO\ <RX PD\ FROOHFW IRU DWWRUQH\¡V IHHV YHW ELOOV DQG VRPH RWKHU FRQVHTXHQWLDO GDPDJHV but you will not be allowed to collect for your great and personal loss as you would if a family member were killed. My wife and I own dogs, and we had one of RXU GRJV VKRW D IHZ \HDUV EDFN 2XU GRJ VXUvived, and I could never prove one hundred percent who shot him although I had an idea of ZKR LW ZDV 1H[W WLPH , ZRXOG KDYH QR SURElem prosecuting any individuals whom I catch shooting one of my pets.

As guests walked back to the patio and garden room, Dat Band of New Orleans welcomed them with both an aura of romance and a foot-tapping beat. The interactive nine-piece band provided a variety of music and entertainment during the

reception. Guests danced, blew bubbles, took pictures in the photo booth, and partook of beverages in the open bar. That night, the groom’s mother honored the couple with a seated rehearsal dinner for the family and

wedding party in Monmouth’s Garden Room. After dinner, toasts, and fun stories of the past, the bride and groom presented gifts to their parents and attendants to show their gratitude and humility. After a two-week-long honeymoon to Greece, Italy, and Portugal, the couple resides at their home in Saint Joseph where the bride teaches at Tensas Academy and the groom is self-employed at Grace Construction.
