moda Kollontaï · Gabrielle Tousignant · President/Designer · www.kollontai.net · Booth 720 What is the history behind the brand’s name Kollontaï? I chose the name Kollontaï to pay homage to Alexandra Kollontaï; a pioneer of women’s rights in Europe and the first woman to be named ambassador of a European country. She was also responsible for the creation of International Women’s Day. She represents the determination and freedom of thought I strive to apply to my life and my brand is meant for a strong woman who takes her rightful place in our society. Where does the line’s design process take place? All Kollontaï clothing is produced in my workshop located on Parthenais Street in Montreal. This gives me the opportunity to work on a wide variety of machines and to experiment with virtually every imaginable way of making clothes. I use my workshop as a creative lab. By opting for local production, I have also given myself the opportunity to work on a daily basis with the dressmakers and my sampler, which strengthens my efforts to find the perfect fit and comfort. Describe your Spring 14 collection. I focused on dresses with prints created by Alice Jarry and Jason Cantoro, two visual artists from Montreal. Each dress is silkscreened by hand in their studio and these prints are exclusive to Kollontaï. I have also expanded the lingerie aspect of my collection by offering slip dresses, camisoles and shorts. Lingerie has become so beautiful that we now want to show it and integrate it to our prêt-à-porter wardrobe. From where do you draw inspiration? I am highly inspired by the city and the urban rhythm of Montreal. It is a vibrant city harbouring many artistic movements, which makes it so unique and inspiring. A crossroads between America and Europe, Montreal allows me to be exposed to all trends that nurture the aesthetics of my work. What were the first steps you took into the world of fashion? When I was very young, my grandmother let us play with her sewing machine and I haven’t stopped using one since! I have always loved creating shapes and textiles are my medium of choice. I launched my brand Kollontaï by myself in my living room 15 years ago. My team has grown and I am now the president of a company that employs over 25 people!

moda sailor-sailor by Just Madras · Kimberly Hoag & Kim Haney · Co-Founders · www.justmadras.com · Booth 1020 Describe the inspiration behind sailor-sailor. Nautical prep was the inspiration behind launching our new sailor-sailor line for the Resort season in 2013. We love living by the ocean, enjoy boating, and summertime. The classic sailor neckline has become our signature style for the sailor-sailor collection. We used our tag line “where summer lives all year long” to tie in our nautical sailor theme. Which details from the Just Madras brand can be found in this collection? We designed Just Madras in 2006 for the classic preppy family. We followed this philosophy in the sailor-sailor collection with accents on lots of colors in our stripes, traditional sailor necklines, and going with the trends of silhouettes in easy to wear fabrics. The most important detail of Just Madras and sailor-sailor is that we make everything in the USA! What is one “must-have” item from this line? Our “Skipper” dress has been a winner from day one! The cut of the dress works well on a lot of body types and is available in all of our stripes. The Skipper has a whimsical ruffle around the neckline and it comes in sleeveless, and now for 2014, a ¾ sleeve version both in dresses and tops! How do you design to include something for everyone in the family? Being American-made, we have so much flexibility for creating daily new styles and accessories. We use our base fabrics and choose styles that work for everyone. Families love us! There are very few brands that exist today with a collection as broad as ours. We work with lots of wedding parties including matching ties, cummerbund sets, and dresses for bridesmaids. Tell us about the materials used in your collections that help distinguish your brand. It’s all about the stripes in sailor-sailor. This season we have added more styles and new color stripes. Our sailor-sailor fabrics are made with our super soft cotton and include a 5% lycra stretch. This combination makes the pieces easy to wear for work, an evening out, and pack wonderfully for a trip.

PERU STYLE AT MODA This season’s Moda begins a new and exciting step for Peru Fashion in the United States. accessoriestheshow Angelrox · Roxi Suger · Designer/Owner · www.angelrox.com · Booth 317 What does the Angelrox brand represent? The Angelrox symbol and trademark represents balance and the pursuit of inner joy. Our tagline and mantra has always been “may peace prevail” and our mission is to give back all we can. Angelrox’s goal is to provide women with timeless versatile designs that work for their varied lifestyle needs. Our focus is on high quality sumptuous plant-derived stretch knits for ultimate comfort and sustainability. How do you go about expressing your authentic self through your designs? My authentic self is reflected in the simplicity of the designs and the complexity of their possibilities and styles. It’s apparent in the classicism of my color palette, timeless stripes and select prints. My belief is the woman should be the element that shines the brightest and not the item of clothing she is wearing. What type of woman is this collection designed for? Angelrox is ideal for travel, designed for women of all ages and stages, and works for a vast range of sizes and lifestyle needs. Our woman enjoys Angelrox for work, social functions, play, wellness, yoga, dance, bridal, maternity and more. She has a diverse active, busy life. She needs comfortable and stylish fashion that serves her throughout her busy days. What is your personal background in the fashion industry? I committed to fashion by the age of eight after I learned to sew from my dear Grannies. I earned my degree in fashion at the University of Alabama on scholarship for design and enjoyed the honor of teaching at Parsons for eight years while working to establish Angelrox. My work history includes the titles of Senior Designer and Head Merchandiser for companies ranging from mass market to direct retailers to high-end for notable companies such as Vivienne Tam, Urban Outfitters and Le Chateau stores of Canada. If you could teach an aspiring designer one valuable thing you have learned, what would it be? I always recommend learning all the elements of the industry that you can both in school and on the job. Before you launch your own line, work for others as long as possible to hone your skills, gain knowledge and contacts, and make and save all you can in the hopes of better preparing you for long term success.

accessoriestheshow Faire Collection · Amanda Judge & Anna Kallett · CEO/Founder & Boutique Sales Innovator · Booth 100 Tell us a little about Faire Collection’s recent rebranding. The overwhelming success of Andean Collection propelled our CEO, Amanda, to explore beyond the Andes. She is a true globetrotter, having visited and lived in more than 25 countries. Throughout her travels, Amanda and our designers curate inspired designs made with the finest materials and techniques from Vietnam, Swaziland, Peru, and the Amazon basin of Ecuador. This expansion beyond Ecuador has led the company to develop a brand name that represents this new broad and diverse group of artisans. What is the main source of inspiration behind the line? Our style is inspired as much by the fluid and cutting-edge street fashion found in New York City (our headquarters), as it is by the diverse artisan communities we visit around the globe. What are some materials used in your collections making them so unique? We work with several kinds of natural materials that are sustainably sourced from all over the world. In Ecuador, we use tagua, acai, pambil, coconut, and jabonchillo seeds. The seeds are transformed into beads, which have sculptural natural irregularities, both in color and form. Each piece is truly one of a kind. Our hats are made from up-cycled felted wool, which is leftover material from felt factories. We use super-fine baby alpaca from Peru, which is the highest quality alpaca in the world. In Swaziland, our jewelry is made from sisal, a natural fiber, and batik cotton. Lastly, in Vietnam, we use recycled bullhorn that has been discarded by local stockyards. Bullhorn is an ideal material for craftsmen because it can be molded and sculpted into different shapes by applying heat and water. Bullhorn is also unique in its natural color variation and each horn has a different combination of colors. How does your company maintain its reputation as a leading social enterprise dedicated to transparency? Faire Collection’s objective is to create positive change in impoverished communities. We believe that fair employment is the most sustainable way for people in these communities to emerge from poverty. Our primary aim is to provide artisans with a steady source of income so they can shift focus from immediate needs, such as where their next meal will come from, and begin to plan for the future. When a family knows how much they will earn in a year, they can make productive investments with confidence. We provide each workshop with an estimated minimum order schedule so the artisans can accurately estimate their yearly income.

fame A’reve · Stella Lim · President/Designer · www.arevestyle.com · Booth 1331 Describe the A’reve girl. The A’reve girl enjoys wearing casual and comfortable clothes that are accented by delicate fabrics and exquisite details, inspired by cultural diversity, and are modern and timeless. What are a few design concepts signature to your brand? The basic concept of A’reve is unique, wearable and romantic. The key is to create a comfortable but romantic and unique design. What is one “must-have” item from your Immediate Spring/Summer Preview 14 collection? The lace frilled slip dress. It can be coordinated with any item and when coordinated together, it accentuates the style. What is your brand doing to address the growing importance of social media? We actively promote and engage with buyers via Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram. This helps market our new products as well as establish a line of communication to hear what our clientele seeks from us. How do you personally stay up-to-date with fashion? I like to see things in person. Seeing a lot and experiencing diversity gives unique inspirations; I spend a lot of time attending exhibitions for art, architecture, interior design, etc. What three items are essential to you during market week? Three essentials for me during market week are a pair of heels, sunglasses and coffee.

fame Vintage Havana/Ocean Drive · Joseph Shiloach · Vice President · www.oceandriveclothing.com · Booth 1303 Describe your immediate Spring/Summer Preview collection. Our Spring 2014 line has a very gypsy-like, free kind of vibe. We are feeling a lot of crochet and tie dye work and all of our styles have a goddess feel to them. We have a lot of dresses which have made a huge comeback and you will be seeing more and more of them. What is one “must-have” item from this collection? Spring: maxi skirts and dresses. Fall: beautiful knit sweaters and novelty jackets. How does the brand go about deciding which trends are important each season? We travel around the world seeing how all the different markets are trending. We also focus on runway and translate their designs for our Vintage Havana customer. Seeing how trends are worn throughout other countries is a major study guide for our development process. What are some of your favorite retailers in the U.S. that currently carry your line? Some of our favorites are Bloomingdale’s, Lester’s, and E Street Denim. How do you feel social media has impacted your business? Social media is the new word of mouth! When something is great and people love it you can instantly see the reaction online. All trends and items are at our customer’s fingertips and we need to make sure we do our best to keep up and make our customers happy. What is the best advice you have ever received? “You are only as good as your last season.” This motto has kept us focused on moving forward and constant with trends while making a name for ourselves. Everyone knows Vintage Havana and we want to keep it that way. The minute you take a break you’ve lost valuable time. How would you define your city’s fashion? New York City is the greatest city in the world and of course it’s the fashion capital! This city is fearless, playful and adventurous just like our clothing. There is nothing more inspiring than the fashion in this city!
