As another stellar year draws to an end, our fair City continues to thrive and reap the benefits of the “Nothing Like A Suburb” Integrated Marketing Campaign. Since the last newsletter, the Berwyn Development Corporation (BDC) has participated in seven ribbon cuttings for new businesses and in keeping with the spirit for the explosion of activity on Cermak Road, the approval of Phase III at the Berwyn Gateway Plaza triggers construction of the highly anticipated Panera Bread and various other unique retailers. All of this success cannot be fully celebrated unless said success is returned to the community. The adage, “to those to whom much is given, much is expected”, serves as a credo for how the BDC continues to give back to Berwyn’s community stakeholders. We celebrated with two recipients of our philanthropic grant program with ribbon cuttings at the Berwyn Park District’s new disc golf course and the community mural that was created in

As with any progressive city, there are always many moving parts and pieces. Finding the right balance that ties economic development with city initiatives that embrace and promote our City’s housing stock is of key importance. Once again, the Integrated Marketing Campaign has been a lightning rod for highlighting Berwyn’s bungalows whose future designs are now protected by a zoning ordinance proposed and vetted by Chicago Metropolitan Agency For Planning (CMAP) and approved by Berwyn’s City Administration. This ordinance is the next step in truly creating a community that is #fullofcharacter(s)!

A BDC philanthropic grant was awarded to Youth Crossroads, Inc. for their Community Mural Project. The project engaged local teens and middle school youth by providing them with the opportunity to get involved with the beautification of Heritage Middle School. After careful planning and collaboration with local artist Sandro Murillo, a 20’ by 20’ mural was constructed.
Berwyn Park District was presented with a BDC philanthropic grant for the Shadow Creek Disc Golf Course at Proksa Park. The grant provided Berwyn Park District with funds to create a 9-hole disc golf course in Proksa Park. The project brings a new unique activity to Berwyn that the community didn’t have before.

Welcome to another exciting school year!! Berwyn South School District 100 provides children ages 3-5 with the comprehensive early learning experiences they need to succeed in school and life. Our preschool classrooms implement a developmentally appropriate, play-based environment where children gain fundamental skills to prepare them for kindergarten. District 100 collaborates with community partners including the Pav YMCA, Berwyn Park District, and The Children’s Center of Cicero-Berwyn to bring the best program to our community. Currently, 265 children attend preschool at our three locations - Komensky, Pershing and Irving Schools. Cost of quadrivalent vaccine is $15, and high-dose vaccine is $40. There is no cost to Berwyn seniors who present their Medicare B card (primary insurance) along with their ID. Berwyn children 18 years and younger who meet eligibility requirements may also receive a free flu vaccine. ZONING ORDINANCE BERWYN GATEWAY The City of Berwyn, Berwyn Development PLAZA PHASE III Corporation (BDC), Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) and community stakeholders APPROVED collaborated to modernize the City’s zoning and The last phase of the redevelopment work at Harlem and Cermak will break ground this Fall. The redevelopment will create over 9,500 square feet of retail space with leases signed with Panera Bread and Xfinity Retail & Service Center. One retail bay is being actively marketed to join the other two retailers in Phase III. The third phase of redevelopment will also have stormwater detention and a buffer. The phase of development should be fully constructed by Spring of 2018.
