AVAILABLE IN KIOSK AT AVENUES MALL

The sun is shining, the weather is sweet, makes you want to move your dancing feet. Except that it’s also hot. Really hot. Too hot. And that, my friends is the annual summer paradox. Schools are out, the summer mass exodus has begun, the roads are empty or at least manageable, but it’s sort of too hot to go anywhere anyway, except to work because you have to!

Our cover for this month is thanks to Almakan and Dutch Illustrator, Jacco Bunt. As seen on the wall at upper STREET, these playful colors and visual symbols tell the story of STREET’s move to its new prominent seaside home, salt, and pepper shakers, and the prowess of the dominant tiger solidifies Almakan’s perseverance and desire to inhabit a lasting space in people’s culinary experiences in Kuwait.

Thank goodness for modern amenities, climate-controlled spaces, chalets, and the access to the beach and pools. We may have also felt slightly ashamed of our whining after meeting Abdulrazzaq Al Mojalhem, who told us all about how he accomplished one of humanity’s toughest physical and mental challenges, climbing Mount Everest. Elika Mansouri, showed us that you don’t have to go far to do great things. The founder of iCare Kuwait, an animal shelter, has successfully rescued, treated, rehabilitated, and rehomed over 1,000 cats and dogs in Kuwait since 2019. Our columnist Hamad Al Khudher, introduced us to Hind AlKhatrash, the founder of Leap Loves Green, who is doing an impressive job in bringing sustainable feminine hygiene products to Kuwait. Those are just some of this issue’s trailblazers, and we’re grateful that there are so many people who constantly show us that we could do and be so much more when we work hard.

We’re going to think about it while we take a break by the pool at the Waldorf Astoria Kuwait. The luxury hotel is offering guests amazing summer packages for a quick respite from daily life without needed to travel far. Another way we’re combatting the heat is by switching more of our clothes to linen, especially after seeing the latest MUJI collections. But our kids might end up looking cooler than us, decked in their comfortable, practical but oh so colorful fits from Cheekee Munkee. And we’re glad we’re empowering them with fashion, especially the latest Pottery Barn Kids backpacks, lunchboxes and more. They’re designed for the young adventurer in mind and are also becoming more and more sustainable each year, to protect their future too, which we can totally get behind.

So sit back and jump right in!
