A Very Barker Christmas

Homewares Fashion and Accessories Jewellery Toys Gourmet Food Food Trucks and Stalls and so much more... Entertainment by Barker’s talented musicians and dancers

From the Head

In planning this inaugural event, it was our intention to create something special that would bring together the whole Barker community. To also provide an opportunity for our magnificent ensembles, orchestras, rock bands, choir and dancers to perform and for the Barker community to join in the finale and sing together some of our favourite Christmas carols. Throughout all of this, we have woven the Christmas story, brought to life by some special ‘guest performers’!

Tonight we remember the story of the birth of Jesus; a story that Dorothy L Sayers once described as: “the most exciting drama that ever staggered the imagination…” Amidst the bright lights, the tinsel and the celebrations, I hope you and your family are able to spend a moment reflecting on the astonishing truth behind the celebration.

I pray that as we come to Christmas may we know the thrill of hope, not only because of rest and family and celebration, but because it is the night of the dear Saviour’s birth.

We remain endlessly grateful for the support of the parents of Barker. You are a constant source of encouragement and blessing in our community and a daily gift to the School.

O holy night, the stars are brightly shining, It is the night of the dear Saviour’s birth; Long lay the world in sin and error pining, ‘Till he appeared and the soul felt its worth. A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices, For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn;

Please enjoy ‘A Very Barker Christmas’.

O Holy Night, Placide Cappeau, 1847

O Come, All Ye Faithful O come, all ye faithful, joyful and triumphant! O come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem; Come and behold him Born the King of Angels: O come, let us adore Him, (3×) Christ the Lord. God of God, light of light, Lo, he abhors not the Virgin’s womb; Very God, begotten, not created: O come, let us adore Him, (3×) Christ the Lord. See how the shepherds, Summoned to his cradle, Leaving their flocks, draw nigh with lowly fear; We too will thither bend our joyful footsteps: O come, let us adore Him, (3×) Christ the Lord.

Sing, choirs of angels, sing in exultation, Sing, all ye citizens of Heaven above! Glory to God, glory in the highest: O come, let us adore Him, (3×) Christ the Lord. Yea, Lord, we greet thee, Born this happy morning; Jesus, to thee be glory given! Word of the Father, now in flesh appearing! O come, let us adore Him, (3×) Christ the Lord.

Hark! The Herald Angels Sing Hark! The herald-angels sing “Glory to the newborn King”; Peace on earth and mercy mild, God and sinners reconciled” Joyful all ye nations rise, Join the triumph of the skies With the angelic host proclaim “Christ is born in Bethlehem” Hark! The herald angels sing “Glory to the new-born King” Christ, by highest heaven adored Christ, the everlasting Lord, Late in time behold Him come Offspring of a Virgin’s womb: Veiled in flesh the Godhead see, Hail the incarnate Deity Pleased as man with man to dwell Jesus, our Emmanuel Hark! The herald angels sing “Glory to the new-born King”

Hail the Heaven-born Prince of Peace! Hail the Sun of Righteousness! Light and life to all He brings, Risen with healing in His wings; Mild He lays His glory by Born that man no more may die Born to raise the sons of earth Born to give them second birth Hark! The herald angels sing “Glory to the new-born King”

The First Noël The first Noël the angel did say Was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay; In fields where they lay, keeping their sheep, On a cold winter’s night that was so deep: Noël, Noël, Noël, Noël, Born is the King of Israel. They looked up and saw a star, Shining in the east, beyond them far: And to the earth it gave great light, And so it continued both day and night: Noël, Noël, Noël, Noël, Born is the King of Israel. This star drew nigh to the north-west; O’er Bethlehem it took its rest; And there it did both stop and stay Right over the place where Jesus lay: Noël, Noël, Noël, Noël, Born is the King of Israel.

Then entered in those Wise Men three, Full reverently upon their knee, And offered there in his presence, Their gold and myrrh and frankincense: Noël, Noël, Noël, Noël, Born is the King of Israel. Then let us all with one accord Sing praises to our heavenly Lord That hath made heaven and earth of nought, And with his blood mankind hath bought: Noël, Noël, Noël, Noël, Born is the King of Israel.

Silent Night Silent night! Holy night! All is calm, all is bright Round yon virgin mother and child! Holy infant, so tender and mild, Sleep in heavenly peace! Sleep in heavenly peace! Silent night! Holy night! Shepherds quake at the sight! Glories stream from heaven afar, Heavenly hosts sing Alleluia! Christ the Saviour is born! Christ the Saviour is born! Silent night! Holy night! Son of God, love’s pure light Radiant beams from thy holy face With the dawn of redeeming grace, Jesus, Lord, at thy birth! Jesus, Lord, at thy birth!

Joy to the World Joy to the world! the Lord is come; Let Earth receive her King; Let every heart prepare him room, And heaven and nature sing, And heaven and nature sing, And heaven, and heaven, and nature sing. Joy to the world! the Saviour reigns; Let us our songs employ; While fields and floods, rocks, hills, and plains Repeat the sounding joy, Repeat the sounding joy, Repeat, repeat the sounding joy. He rules the world with truth and grace, And makes the nations prove The glories of His righteousness, And wonders of His love, And wonders of His love, And wonders, wonders, of His love.
