Paisley’s Princess Room

When Heather purchased her home, she envisioned from the first day that this room would one day be a nursery. It now belongs to her daughter Paisley and incorporates the rest of her home's style with a soft color palette and crisp ivories and whites. "I have always loved birds and how small and delicate they are, yet they can do something that we all wish we could: fly. I have known for years that if I ever was blessed enough to have a girl, I would want to incorporate the aspect of birds into her room details."

Heather found one element to fall in love with an built the room from there. She chosethe Kravet fabric on the pillow in her glider. "I saw the fabric in a magazine and poured over the Internet trying to find someone who sold it. When I did, I had it made into a pillow and just let the color theme flow from there." Heather loves the way the crib looks antiqued and adores the little stone birds she found in a boutique shop on The University of Oklahoma’s campus. "It’s also a shop right next to the coffee house where my husband I had our first date in college."

Paisley loves her Aden + Anais sleep sack and adores her little A+A blankie so Heather knew she wanted a crib sheet made with the same material. Aden + Anais have several solid shades, so she chose a shade that matched the Carousel Design items and it fit right in. "Paisley’s Mimi, my Mom, made a little ivory canvas with her name in wooden letters and I found an old side table in a family storage unit that we painted to match the crib. I also took some Nancy Drew books that I could never put down when I was younger and wrapped them in blue paper to tie in with the room and put them in a book rack on the nursery wall. I know she is much too young to read them now, but I hope someday that she gets as much joy from them as I did.

"Besides my treasured books, I also had a beautiful mirror growing up that I was absolutely in love with. I took it with me when I first got married and it hung in our bedroom for a few years. When Paisley was born, we put it in the nursery and I love it and all the memories it brings back to me." Heather's advice to other moms: find one element that you are absolutely in love with or that has sentimental meaning to you and build the room around it. "Never try to copy someone else exactly, make it your own and a reflection of your family, that way it will always be unique to you and that baby will always know that their room is truly something special and designed with love."

Vintage Hot Air B

By Leslie S

Balloon Fantasy

Simmons

Photographer Leslie Simmons had so much fun planning her twins' second birthday. She couldn't wait to decide what theme she should choose for the party and one of her favorite ideas was a vintage hot air balloon theme. By making the floating orb theme vintage inspired, Leslie could incorporate the pastel colors she loves like pink, yellow, and light blue.

Leslie used a good friend who is a graphic designer to help design the hot air balloon themed invitations. Once finalized they were printed on watercolor paper.

e first piece of decor Leslie designed was the dessert table and branched o from there with details and decor. "I gave the idea and color scheme and invitation to my cake decorator and knew she would come up with something amazing! I love how the hot air balloons cascade up the cake and are also attacked by the string of flags!" Her father in law designed little wood baskets to hang on the Chinese lanterns to create gorgeous hot air balloons to go over the cake table.

Leslie also served delicious cake pops floating over marshmallow clouds in basket-esque tins she found at Michael's. “I also gave the invitation to the cookie designer and she nailed my vision for hot air balloon cookies and cloud cookies.

We had the party in our backyard so we brought in a tent. I ordered Chinese lanterns of all sizes to hang from the ceiling of the tent to mimic the idea of hot air balloons. We put the sides on the tent and had a craft table ready for the kids and we were going to work with it. We had a bounce house and huge inflatable ball for the kids entertainment! We had hot and cold paninis, potato salad, chips as well as pizza for the kids. ere was also pink lemonade for the kids and sangria for the adults. Everyone had a blast!
