CAREERS NEWSLETTER

2017-‐18

We hope the recent snowfall did not prevent our more senior pupils attending last weekend’s ‘What Next’ careers fair at the NEC. With so few visitors on the Friday, we had almost VIP access to the delegates present!

ISSUE 10 – Friday 9 March 2018

CHANNEL 4’S ‘THE JOB INTERVIEW’ IS OUR NEW GUILTY PLEASURE

It is no surprise we are totally obsessed with the second series of Channel 4’s ‘The Job Interview’ and would heartily recommend our students view a few of the episodes via ‘catch up’ TV. We will not drop any ‘spoilers’ for those intending to watch the programme but, from the first 3 shows, we have been able to predict correctly each of the candidates who have been offered the job advertised. It is refreshing to see employers rewarding the best applicants. Very few people can honestly claim not to have a few nerves b efore an interview, but be reassured that d oing your preparation, looking the part, being your best n atural and friendly self, and responding to questions with enthusiasm go a long way towards success. We will post an infographic about basic interview p rinciples in the next newsletter.

This year’s L6th Mock Interview Morning takes places on Saturday 30 June. See http://www.2morrow-‐2day.com/mock-‐interview.html for more info.

CHALLENGE YOURSELF! NEW COLLEGE OF HUMANITIES ESSAY COMPETITION FOR LOWER 6TH

The most successful students not only will impress future university admissions tutors, but also future employers and/ or their chosen universities. CAREERS FORUM (SESSION 13) – STUDY ABROAD FAIR -‐ Wednesday 14 March (Main Hall) 5ths: 8.45-‐ 9.15am, L6th: 9.15-‐ 9.45am

After opening with a flagship event at Aston Villa Football Ground on Sunday 11 March, INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION WEEK comes to Bablake’s Main Hall during Life Choices next week, and we are indebted to Antony Adams for arranging what will be our third Study Abroad fair since 2016.

Students from the Fifth Year and L6th will be able to talk to representatives from the following universities:

Canada: Bishop’s, Carleton, Concordia, Memorial Newfoundland, Ryerson and Waterloo. Europe: ESCP Europe Business School. Italy: IED -‐ Instituto Europeo Di Design. Netherlands: Maastricht. USA: Florida State; UES London (experts in assisting with USA applications). Switzerland: Ecole Hôtelière de Lausanne.

It would be good to ask our delegates about the costs, tuition styles, course options, and scholarships/ bursaries available for those looking at a full 3 year + course abroad. Do not ignore the value of spending an exchange term or year with a university outside the UK rather than a full course abroad. See http://www.ieweek.com/ for more specific information about International Education Week.
