Community Newsletter 2023

Page 1

Our Board structure is based on a partnership of our tenants and Ayrshire’s communities. We’re looking for two committed and knowledgeable individuals to join the Board. We are particularly interested to hear from people with an interest or experience in housing and social affairs, or with the financial knowledge to contribute to the supervision of a significant charity. The positions are subject to election by our community members prior to the AGM on Wednesday 6 September 2023.

The positions are unpaid although travelling expenses are refundable. Attendance at up to ten evening meetings a year can be expected. We offer comprehensive induction and role development support. We are committed to equal opportunities. If you are interested, please email our Company Secretary Alan Park info@ayrshirehousing.org.uk with a short statement (no more than 100 words) or fill out the formoverleaf.

A success story...

Our new community space has proved a great success as community groups get back to meeting after the Covid restrictions. In its first year, 22 community groups and other agencies have used the space. With support from VASA – Voluntary Action South Ayrshire – we are running very popular drop in events for our tenants and the wider community every Wednesday. These have included a Burns Supper, a Valentine’s Day afternoon tea and a Saint Patrick’s Day celebration. On The Local’s first birthday in March we had a packed “Birthday Bingo” afternoon.

Interested in booking The Local? Contact us by email: thelocal@ayrshirehousing.org.uk

Over the past year, we’ve successfully bid for £100,000 to support initiatives to help address hardship amongst our tenants.

Through a winter pack scheme, we distributed 214 air fryers, 563 duvets, 232 indoor clothes dryers and 48 slow cookers. We gave out over 300 energy assistance vouchers and Love Local shopping cards.

Community grants

Alongside the use of The Local, many community groups have benefited from our longstanding community grants scheme. Recent beneficiaries include Oshays Brain Domain, Harbour Ayrshire, Southcraig and Dalmilling schools and The Good Shepherd Court residents group.
