The work presented by each and every single one of these skilled designers showcases their creative talent. So congratulations are in order! And the fun champagne- and food-filled photo shoot celebration we held at Cambria Gallery by CR Home to honor not only the winners, but the design community as a whole, displayed the respect and appreciation that everyone has for one another. Seeing people hugging, sharing stories, and discussing the future of kitchen and bath design was a heartfelt experience. I’m truly honored to have witnessed this and to be a part of Atlanta Best Media’s 16th Annual Kitchen & Bath issue.

from uninspiring backyard to revitalizing spa Sandy Springs empty nesters, Bill and Cindy, always dreamed of owning an atomic-style ranch home (also referred to as mid-century modern). So when the chance to renovate an almost 4,000-square-foot rancher arose, they jumped at the opportunity. Enter Bryan Jones of Jones Pierce, Inc. Jones expanded the home’s space by connecting its indoor and outdoor areas. Busting out the old back wall of the master bedroom and replacing it with floor-to-ceiling windows created a full view of this stunning outdoor shower oasis.

An outdoor shower that affords privacy is achieved through custom-made pivoting walls by Stage Left Fabrication. In keeping with mid-century style signature characteristics, which emphasize geometric lines, large windows, and integration with nature, Jones says, “The shower was conceived as a Zen garden element.” Larger river stones that make up the shower floor and nearby potted plants tie in the outdoors. Jones also sought to provide much needed privacy. “We tried out new ideas on this shower where the wood walls can pivot open to commune with nature or close to shower for privacy.” Typically utilized as a part of the indoor master bath, Bill and Cindy also use this shower to rinse off after a dip in the pool and as a place to wash off messy grandkids.

Kristen Yonson and Jessica McRae are the co-founders of popular interior design site SwatchPop! The online platform offers help for your decorating dilemmas by pairing you with a professional designer once you've completed a personal style questionnaire. Yonson took time off from running her business to design her own kitchen recently.
“My inspiration was mostly to create a space to entertain,” she explains. The room’s focus was the large island―perfect for seating planned, even for a seasoned designer. She says she’d found the ideal slab of marble for the countertop. However, when it was time for installation, she was devastated to learn that the slab had broken in half, forcing her to go with a different choice in order not to delay construction of her Milton home. She asserts that a designer always has to stay flexible―“I moved ahead with a slab that had irregular, odd veining because it was the only one I could find. But now that slab is my favorite part of the kitchen! It was meant to be!” she laughs. SwatchPop.com

Now it’s the focal point of the kitchen!”

this Johns Creek kitchen from dull to dynamic. “We opened up the floor plan between the family room and kitchen. This allowed us to enlarge the island and add a bar space,” says Elliott, the project’s lead designer. Once the layout was done, the team got to work with the design details. “Our color palette was gray, white and silver. We chose gray floor tile and the backsplash combines white glass tiles and a mosaic of silver, metal and mirror.” For a quirky touch, they added orange velvet chairs in a seating area flanking the inviting fireplace. “The light fixtures and the coffered ceiling add drama and help connect the two areas.”

This vintage-inspired master bathroom was created for a family rebuilding their home in the Virginia-Highland area. Interior Designer Jenny Warner used nods to the original materials of the home―a key to the success of the design. “Elements like the clawfoot tub, plumbing fixtures, and detailed casement windows with mullions all give a traditional feel that the neighborhood is

Owner/Designer Marni Ratner of Studio M Interiors along with Jennifer Davis brought this Midtown home’s bathroom, built in 1922, into the 21st century. “We wanted to provide
beautiful yet functional updates without going too contemporary, since many historical elements of the house remained untouched. Using iconic subway tiles and dark grout as the shower’s focal point, we were able to mix in modern fixtures and finishes to create a timeless, balanced blend. Originally, this bathroom only had two pedestal sinks, a clawfoot tub, a cave-like shower and one water closet. It was quite cramped. Although its footprint was relatively small, we were able to create two separate vanities, a spacious, bright corner shower and two water closets―which the owners jokingly referred to as the ‘marriage saver’ bathrooms! The overall result had much more storage and a more spacious feeling,” says Davis, lead designer.

HGTV’s Chip Wade, host of the Emmy award-winning TV show “Elbow Room,” set to work reviving a dark attic into an oasis that would allow the couple some much needed alone time apart from the children. With Wade’s creative vision in mind, he seamlessly flowed together an open-concept bedroom and bath area perfect for recharging.

We love this open-concept
master suite! The lack of partitions makes the space feel larger and gives the room a romantic and modern spa feel. Wade began by opening up the cramped garret with a 40-foot dormer, which helped to make the almost 1,000-square-foot room feel light and airy. A sleek freestanding tub with chandelier overhead, and a walk around shower next to a water closet quickly became Mom and Dad’s favorite feature. Each element was crafted to be elegant when exposed or easily tucked away like the pop-up TVs located inside the moving footboards. Wade also added several custom touches like an oversized painted headboard by Atlanta muralist, Kristen Davis. In the end Wade explains, “This couple went from having zero privacy to a luxurious retreat totally separated from the kids. It’s a great place for them to unwind and find rejuvenation.”
