7 March 2013 To whom it may concern: Dear Sir / Madam This letter serves as both a character and athletic reference for “Amy Jane Warner”. I have known Amy since 2009 when as a 13 year old she took up rowing as her sport of choice. Her talent and competitiveness was immediately evident, even at that age. I became Amy’s coach in 2010 and am still her coach today. She has always been very focused on her sport and at all times been willing to go the extra mile whilst treating her coaches and instructors with respect and dedication. In competition, she will always give of her best and this along with her talent and commitment to her training has resulted in great performances and numerous local and national medals and victories. Amy is primarily a sculler, proving strong in the single as well as crew boats. She has also excelled in sweep boats and rows on both the port and starboard sides . Out of the boat, she has always done well in balancing a very busy schedule to excel not only in rowing, but also in academics and culturally. Amy is a very well-adjusted young lady and will fit in and do well in whatever she does. She has been a pleasure to coach and I value the friendship that has been built over the years. I wish her well with her future and she will always be welcomed back should she wish to return. Yours sincerely Bill Godfrey Clarendon rowing Head Coach Telephone: +27 83 469 2930 Email: bill@cbmafrica.co.za

Interview

What makes you different to other athletes? I have been rowing for 5 years and immediately fell in love with the sport. I have always been determined and disciplined that’s why rowing was the sport for me. I thrive on hard work and excellence and always want to push myself to a new level. Exercise is not a part of my day, it is my life. coming from a small town in South Africa I have always had to go the extra mile to get what I want and achieve my goals. I have a very competitive nature and am used to having to be self-motivated and working on my own. I believe that whatever you put your mind towards, with hard work and belief in oneself, you can achieve anything.

College goals? My demanding schedule has allowed me to learn how to combine my currents studying while gaining top results at a national level. I would like to obtain my degree and be the best athlete I can be and will do what it takes to win at a national level of championships.

Life goals? I always strive to be the best I can be and maintain happy. If you don’t love what you’re doing it isn’t worth doing. In the future I see myself living and working in America with a medical degree in assisting people. I’d like to continue in the rowing world and eventually end up doing anything from coaching to becoming the Physiotherapist for the US national rowing team.
