Missing Original title: Savnet First published: 2011 Genre: Picture book Pages: 32

The magpie is the only one of the animals on the farm that doesn’t live on the farm itself, but up in the tree. She’s wondering – am I one of you? The answers she’s getting don’t make her any wiser: Well, you can stay here, but you’re not one of us, really … The magpie is pondering – maybe she’ll be more welcomed somewhere else? No sooner thought than done – the magpie is moving. And then maybe the animals on the farm will realise that they have lost something they actually appreciated. Missing is a picture book cooperation between Trond, Kaia and Bendik Brænne, with illustrations by Per Dybvig. This is the fourth book about the animals on the farm. Friends, No longer friends and Stranger already exist. Stranger was nominated fo the Brage award (open category) in 2010.

Trond Brænne is a writer and an actor. He has written three picture books in cooperation with his children Kaia and Bendik.

Stranger Original title: Fremmed First published: 2010 Genre: Picture book Pages: 32

This is a subtle story about fear of the unknown. In Stranger we get another delightful story about the (not-sofriendly?) friends at the farm. This time a beaver comes to visit the farm, and it’s hard to say how the other animals will react. He can’t lay eggs, and his ears are too small. The other animals cannot understand what he is good for. But he may surprise them all …

“Stranger is a warm and including picture book with a visual expression that sparkles”

The kids are wondering what the grown-ups are doing while they are asleep. The suggestions are many: they have a pillow fight in bed, they play PlayStation, and they drink soda pops and eat candy and go wild. Alvin decides to find out if any of this is true. He stays awake at night, pretending to be asleep. He sneaks up on them, but all they do is watch TV. Alvin goes back to bed, but footsteps wake him up. It’s all starting now. Now, they are going to do what grown-ups do when the children are asleep.

“The Alvin Pang-books are fresh and fun stories for small children, joyously illustrated by Olve Askim (...) This is the second book about Alvin Pang and I’m looking forward to more!” Sigrid of the Reading Association Les!

Alvin Pang and the Best Birthday Ever Original title: Alvin Pang og verdens beste bursdag First published: 2010 llustrations: Olve Askim Pages: 40

Nelia’s Riddle

Original title: Nelias Gåte First published:2010 Pages: 368

Fourteen year old Nelia (Cornelia) is to all appearances a normal teenager. One dark night when she is on her way home from cello practice, she is ambushed by a man and dragged into the woods. Her trivial everyday life is turned upside down. Linus, a young and aggressive man from a world parallel to our own, has flown into our world to get Nelia. Nelia’s Riddle has the suspense of a thriller and at the same time a feeling similar to Astrid Lindgren’s universe.

Nelia’s Night (2)

Original title: Nelias natt First published: 2011 Pages: 300

Nelia is alone in the Erun Woods to solve a riddle. She has been attacked and knocked unconscious. She wakes up while being carried through the woods to the camp of the Forest People. She is sentenced to death, but Kin, who is to be her executioner, releases her. After being chased, hurt and kidnapped, she receives unexpected help and stumbles upon the answer to the riddle. When she finally makes it back to the castle, she finds out that Lora, her biological mother, is alive. Nelia becomes stronger and more independent. She makes choices that may have fatal consequences, for Linus as well as herself.

If Anyone Else is Lying Now… Original title: Hvis det er flere som juger nå First published: 2011 Pages: 230

Agnes is missing. A great search is initiated. Her friend Rebekka gets a clue that makes her find Agnes, but Agnes makes her promise to come to the hiding place, and not to tell anyone about it. Agnes has run away, and tells a story: Her mother and Rebekka’s parents have lied about something during all these years. Her father is in prison, and he’s not a nice man at all, as the grown-ups always have remarked. Agnes’ revenge is to run away. And she wants Rebekka to come with her. But it turns out that Agnes has a very different story to tell – and that story is about her desperate battle to hide her mother’s anxiety disorder. If Anyone Else is Lying Now is a novel about anxiety, compulsion, and how this affects the people surrounding it. The people who do anything in their power to cover up, normalize, hope. It’s not sad and boring. On the contrary – it’s exciting, insightful, and dramatic. And it’s told with warmth and love towards the characters in the novel.

Tyra Trondstad is taking her master in religious studies. The poetry collection On Monday Morning the Dead are Lined Up was her literary debut.

Have you ever wanted to write a story, but not quite known how to do it?

There are lots of things you can find in an attic. Skis, old clothes, books and sleeping bags. But also dark corners, dust, creaking doors and old boxes of equipment with strange things in them. And perhaps a mysterious mask?

”Why aren’t you like Anna?” That’s the recurring theme at Liv’s home. Anna always helps, Anna never gets into a fight, Anna does her homework – Anna this and Anna that. Everybody loves Anna. Liv most of all. However, after a trip to India, Anna is unrecognizable, and Liv is haunted by strange and scary dreams. Somebody whispers her name, but there is no one there. Meanwhile Anna sits in her room filled with incense ...
