2018 Exam 20?? Special ???????

Exam joy as students prepare for university students of Raine’s Foundation School scored top grades at both A-Level and GCSE as the school celebrated another successful exam season. At A-Level our budding scientists, doctors, lawyers and architects took their first giant leap towards dream careers with top grades in maths, science, graphics and languages. A remarkable one in four students will now go on to further their education at some of the very best universities in the country, including Russell Group institutions.

A week later, our GCSE students picked up some of the best results in the country, despite the tougher new numerical grading system. Headteacher Rob Hullett said: “Our students have made the school incredibly proud with their wonderful exam results. “Our A-Level students will leave this school for some of the very best universities to study the top subjects. “As a school and teaching body, we have worked incredible hard to be among the

top-performing sixth forms in the borough. These young people have been equipped with the skills and education to grasp the opportunities that lie beyond Raine’s Foundation School. We wish them well. “We have also had great success with our GCSE students, many of whom exceeded expectations to achieve fantastic grades. “Most pleasing is a number of them are putting their trust in the school by staying on to study at our sixth form. We look forward to welcoming them back.”

Umma’s determination brings a King’s reward STUDENT Umma Habiba has been praised for her strength of character after resitting her A-Levels to get the grades needed to go to a top London university. Umma got an A in psychology and philosophy and a B in biology, at her second attempt and will now study philosophy at King’s College London – ranked in the top 25 universities in the world. Umma paid special tribute to her family and school for giving her the support to pursue her dream of going to a top university. She said: “My family are very supportive of my education and wanted me to do very well. They realise how important education is for young people. “My school also helped me out a lot because they allowed me to come back and study here and gave me the extra support I needed to achieve my dream. “I had the grades to go to university last year but I knew I would be settling for second best if I went anywhere other than King’s College. It was the place I knew I would be able to feel at home and be successful.” Headteacher Robert Hullett said: “Umma has shown that with focus and dedication the top universities are all accessible. “It is important to show resilience when you don’t always succeed first time and Umma has shown this quality throughout her time at Raine’s Foundation School. “We are very proud of her and wish her all the best in her future career.”

Anastasia’s top marks in Russian

One-year wonder: Anastasia Dmiuterko collected an A* in Russian after studying the language for just 12 months

STAR student Anastasia Dmiuterko was left speechless after achieving an A* in Russian – despite not knowing a word of the language just a year ago. The 16-year-old said that despite her friends thinking she was ‘strange’ when she chose the subject, she is glad she persisted in studying the language. Anastasia, who achieved mostly 8s and 9s, will stay on at our high-achieving sixth form to study medicine. She said: “I’m amazed I got an A* in Russian as I only started learning it this year. As I’m Ukrainian, my parents said it would be easier for me to learn Russian. “I was the only one in the library with a dictionary and letters in Russian, and whilst friends thought I was strange at the time, it really paid off. “I never expected that I’d get anywhere near an A* after only a year of learning it. “I was amazed. The school were really supportive of my choice to sit Russian.”
