Tom S. Chung is a Principal and Design Leader at Leers Weinzapfel Associates Architects in Boston, Massachusetts. He’s a national leader in the practice and education of mass timber design, having designed numerous award-winning projects featuring cross laminated timber. Tom holds architecture degrees from the University of Virginia and Harvard.

Dr. Breneman is a licensed Structural Engineer and Professional Engineer in the State of California, a PE in the State of Washington, and Senior Technical Director – Mass Timber in the Project Resources & Solutions Division of WoodWorks. He received bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Florida and a doctorate from Stanford University. Scott has experience with structural design, seismic rehabilitation, and peer review of projects varying from single-family homes to high-rise hospitals.

Ryan is the Chief Marketing Officer of the Softwood Lumber Board, an industry-funded initiative established to promote the benefits and uses of softwood lumber products in outdoor, residential, and non-residential construction. He has expanded his wood knowledge by building strong relationships with industry leaders, understanding primary business drivers, and blending the two into powerful marketing strategies for the SLB.

PETER MACKEITH Dean / University of Arkansas

Peter MacKeith is the dean and a professor of architecture at the Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design at the University of Arkansas. During his leadership since 2014, the school has grown significantly in student enrollment, retention and graduation outcomes, faculty appointments and accomplishments, curricular programs, diversity initiatives, community engagements and outreach centers, externally funded research, new facilities, and financial resources. A nationally recognized leader in advancing the cause of a forest-centered culture and economy, and the cause of a wood-product centered approach to architecture, engineering and construction, MacKeith lectures and presents frequently on these topics. A 2020 Senior Fellow of the Design Futures Council, MacKeith has been recognized twice by Design Intelligence as a ‘design educator of the year’ (2017 and 2019) and twice by the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture with national awards for “creative achievement in design education,” for his design studio teaching and curatorial work.

As principal architect and owner of Korb + Associates, Jason is a licensed architect in 18 states. He has been involved with numerous awardwinning education, commercial, mixed use, and housing facilities. Jason is also regarded as an international thought leader on the adoption of mass timber construction, which he believes will become the benchmark for sustainable housing. Jason currently sits on the Wisconsin DSPS Timber code steering committee, as well as CTBUH’s international steel-hybrid steering committee.

Chris is a Founding Principal of Studio NYL Structural Engineers and Façade Designers. He and his team have worked on projects around the world ranging from houses to highrises. He and his team are active on over a dozen mass timber projects across the country and assisted in the development of a testing procedure for the use of Eastern Hemlock in CLT panels.

Tanya Luthi is a Vice President at Entuitive, with over 15 years of experience in the structural engineering industry. Tanya co-authored the US and Canadian Nail-Laminated Timber Design and Construction Guides. In 2016, she became involved in the development of building codes, serving as an active member of the NYC structural code committee, and advocating for the wider adoption of mass timber. She also served on the structural work group of the ICC Ad-Hoc Committee on Tall Wood Buildings, which successfully introduced increased height limits on mass timber buildings in the 2021 International Building Code.

Adam Yarinsky is s principal at Architecture Research Office (ARO). He holds an undergraduate degree in Architecture from the University of Virginia and a Master of Architecture from Princeton University. He has served as the Eliel Saarinen Professor at the University of Michigan, the Thomas Jefferson Professor at the University of Virginia, and the Eero Saarinen Visiting Professor at Yale University. His writing has appeared in A+U, The Architect’s Newspaper, 306090, Dimensions, Places Journal, and elsewhere. Adam served on the board of Places Journal from 2012-2018, and he is on the University of Virginia School of Architecture Advisory Board.

Senior Structural Engineer / ARUP

Lauren Wingo is a licensed structural engineer in Arup’s Washington, D.C. office. She is a regional expert in structural sustainability and applies this knowledge to her projects, focusing on reinvigorating existing building assets and utilizing low carbon structural materials, like mass timber. Lauren’s mass timber projects include the Washington Latin Public Charter School Gymnasium, the first cross-laminated timber project in Washington, D.C., and 80 M Street, the first mass timber overbuild on the East Coast. Lauren serves on the leadership group for the Structural Engineering Institute’s SE 2050 Commitment Program.

Ricky is a licensed Structural Engineer and Professional Engineer, and Senior Technical Director for the WoodWorks program. He has over 13 of years experience in lead engineer roles for the structural design, project management, and construction administration of new single family, multi-family, municipal, industrial, and mixed-used buildings. Ricky is the Executive Director of the Structural Engineers Association of Vermont, and is a member of the ASCE Structural Wind Engineering Committee, the SEI Blast Protection of Building’s Committee, and the NIBS Offsite Construction Council.

Aaron Seward is Editor-in-Chief of The Architect’s Newspaper. Seward is an award-winning editor whose career has centered on interpreting architecture for the profession and the general public. He was editor of Texas Architect magazine for six years and prior to that held several positions at AN, including executive editor. In addition to those publications, Seward’s writing on architecture, culture, and the built environment has appeared in Architect, Curbed, Domus, Metropolis, and other publications. He has a BA in Literature, Writing and the Arts from The New School for Social Research.

Kim has been awarded the AIA New York (AIANY) Medal of Honor and the Beverly Willis Foundation Mentorship Award. She was President of AIANY in 2020 and serves on the Board of the Center for Architecture.
