ERIC FEISS Principal / GWWO Architects

A principal at GWWO, Eric Feiss, AIA, LEED AP skillfully leads large and multi-faceted design teams fostering creative design processes that result in elegantly detailed buildings for GWWO’s educational and cultural clients. Eric keeps a constant pulse on the construction marketplace and is dedicated to helping clients achieve their monetary, scheduling, and programmatic goals. He is an active member of COAA and currently serves as an instructor for their Owner’s Training Institute and on the education committee. He holds a Master of Architecture degree from Morgan State University, where he previously served as an adjunct faculty member, and a Bachelor of Arts from Franklin & Marshall College.

Sarah Berseth, PE, is a Mechanical Engineer at HGA, where she directs mechanical infrastructure and energy systems for corporate offices, historic renovations, and office tenant improvements. She specializes in energy modeling and sustainability in coordination with the firm’s architecture and engineering teams to develop high-performance buildings and facades that contribute to occupant wellbeing. Among her notable public projects are the , in progress in Baltimore County, Maryland, with GSA; the Ramsey County Library-Shoreview in Minnesota, which won a national First Place Technology Award from ASHRAE; and the B.H. Whipple Federal Office Building Modernization in Minneapolis, which won a GSA Citation in Engineering Design Award. Additionally, Berseth serves as Minneapolis Office Director, overseeing daily administrative and operational functions of the 240-person office. Berseth has a Bachelor of Architectural Engineering from Pennsylvania State University. She joined HGA in 2004.

ED CLEMENTS Engineering Department Leader / HGA

Ed Clements, PE, LEED AP is a Mechanical Engineer and Engineering Department Leader in HGA’s Washington, DC, office. His expertise includes high-performance energy systems and sustainable strategies for healthcare, higher education, performing art centers, auditoriums, and related performance spaces.

Doug Gerlach, AIA, LEED AP, CPHC design work is rooted in a deep curiosity about the physical, cultural, and organizational context of the work. Through a research-driven and iterative process, Doug seeks holistic design solutions that mine this context and find design opportunity in technical, budgetary, and site constraints. His past projects demonstrate a commitment to the careful execution of these solutions through a tireless refinement of construction detail, and collaborative integration of building systems into a cohesive whole. Doug’s professional experience is diverse in scale and use, ranging from single family residences to complex governmental, educational and arts facilities. Past projects include Northrop Performing Arts Center at the University of Minnesota, Janet Wallace Fine Arts Center at Macalester College, Marlboro Music Festival Musician’s Cottages, Huss Center for the Performing Arts at Saint Paul Academy, and the Café/Entry Expansion of the Walker Arts Center. Doug’s work has been published nationally and recognized with multiple AIA Minnesota and AIA Wisconsin awards, and an AIA National Interior Award.

Laura Grafel, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP BD+C is an Associate Principal at Fentress Architects. She has been an architect for over 15 years and is involved in all phases of a design; from preliminary concepts and Programming through Construction Administration.

Mariusz is a designer, teacher, and entrepreneur. He values the knowledge he has acquired from the crossdisciplinary teams he works with—from clients to consultants, contractors to teammates. He believes greater results are achieved through idea sharing and open communication. With his education and work experience in Architecture, Urban, Landscape, and Digital design, Mariusz approaches complex problems from a holistic perspective. Throughout his work, he integrates technology in design and delivery.

CARL KNUTSON Design Director / Perkins&Will

Carl Knutson is a Principal and Design Director at Perkins&Will’s Washington, D.C office. Raised in Central and North America, Carl was exposed to a number of different cities growing up: From his earliest years in Mexico City–where he was born–to his grade school years outside of Detroit, Michigan, to his university studies in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Carl began with the firm in our Chicago studio, where he spent many years before relocating to our nation’s capital, but has called Washington, DC home for the past five years. He, his wife, and their three daughters enjoy exploring new areas around the city in their free time.

ERIC LACROIX Director, Strategic Accounts Construction / STI Specified Technologies

Eric Lacroix in consistently recognized throughout the design community and construction industry for his firestop expertise, especially in terms curtain wall perimeter fire barrier systems where he is considered the “Industry Specialist”. Eric has over 20 years of real world experience serving as an invaluable resource on many of largest, most complex high profile projects around the world. Prior to his role as Director of Strategic Accounts, Eric was the STI Firestop Regional Manager, covering the Southeastern United States, Latin America, the Caribbean, South America, and Mexico.

AMANDA MOORE Associate / GWWO Architects

Amanda Moore, AIA is an Associate at GWWO with 13 years of experience. Fascinated by how the built environment impacts peoples’ experiences with and perceptions of space, Amanda Moore is a technically strong architect appreciated by clients for her detail-oriented management approach and thoughtful decision-making. Her work includes projects for the Smithsonian Institution, University of Maryland, and Delaware State Parks. She most recently led the document coordination for the new Pikes Peak Summit Visitor Center and the design of the new West County Elementary School in Maryland. Amanda previously served on the AIA Baltimore Equity Committee.

Michelle Pearson is an Architectural Sales Representative for YKK AP America covering Maryland, DC and Northern Virginia. She has 20 years experience in the glass and glazing industry helping architects, general contractors and glazing contractors with their fenestration needs and challenges.

Alan Reed, FAIA, LEED AP has focused his career on the design of progressive architecture that achieves striking presence while remaining responsive to its site and surroundings. He has established GWWO’s strong design ethic and elevated its reputation for inspirational, evocative, and progressive design. His awardwinning designs have enhanced the visitor experience at culturally, environmentally, and historically significant sites nationwide, including the Pikes Peak Visitor Center in Colorado, Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Visitor Center and Fort McHenry Visitor Center in Maryland, and the Niagara Falls State Park Welcome Center in New York.

As technical director of the firm’s Washington, D.C. studio, Joshua Rubin oversees quality assurance and technical aspects of all projects to ensure high quality constructible designs and minimize change orders that lead to increased costs to clients. He brings more than 18 years of experience in the commercial mixed-use, federal, retail, and aviation sectors.

JUAN VILLAFAÑE

Juan Villafañe, AIA is a tenacious leader and a big thinker with bold ideas for expanding the influence of architects. Juan’s architectural experience ranges from largescale commercial developments to technically complex institutional projects. Recent work includes the redevelopment of the United Airlines — Terminal 7, Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), the expansion of several U.S. Embassy complexes, including the U.S. Embassy — Buenos Aires, and the repositioning of large commercial buildings in Boston 125 High Street and International Food Market.

LAUREN WINGO Structural Engineer / Arup

Lauren Wingo is a licensed structural engineer in Arup’s Washington, DC office. She is a regional expert in structural sustainability and applies this knowledge to her projects, focusing on reinvigorating existing building assets and utilizing low carbon structural materials like mass timber. Lauren’s mass timber projects include the Washington Latin Public Charter School Gymnasium, the first cross-laminated timber project in Washington, DC, and 80 M Street, the first mass timber overbuild along the East Coast. Lauren serves on the leadership group for the Structural Engineering Institute’s SE 2050 Commitment Program.

Steve White, FAIA, LEED AP BD+C has 25 years of experience designing contextually responsive civic, cultural, and private projects in urban environments. He has collaborated with a broad range of clients including local, state, and federal governments, such as the GSA and the Royal Norwegian Embassy. Steve is a National Peer for the GSA National Register of Peer Professionals, a certified expert witness for the DC Board of Zoning Adjustment, a member of the George Washington Chapter of Lambda Alpha, a LEED Accredited Professional since 2004, and was the 2015 President of the Washington DC Chapter of the American Institute of Architects.

Nicholas Williams, AIA is the Director of its Mid-Atlantic Office of Ashley McGraw Architects. Williams previously worked at Ashley McGraw from 2009-2015 with a focus in the K-12 and higher education markets. Upon relocating to Washington, D.C., in 2015, Nick worked at Perkins Eastman DC for over 4 years. Nick joined the Facility Planning and Design team for the District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) where he quickly ascended to the role of Director of Facility Planning and Design for DCPS in June 2020.

Jason Wright is an Associate Principal and Senior Project Architect at Hickok Cole with over two decades experience designing, renovating, and constructing commercial and institutional buildings. His specialty is focusing on detailing and how buildings are assembled to reinforce the design concept. Jason is an advocate for advancing building codes to support further progress and innovation in sustainable design and participates in the new code development process for The District of Columbia. Internally, Jason leads the firm’s Technical Operations Group and Quality Control Committees.
