Charles Dickens’ classic seasonal story has gotten many screen workouts, but one of the most unique is the animated special “Mr, Magoo’s Christmas Carol,” which Peacock is streaming during the holiday season. Originally televised in 1962, this variation of the tale casts the famously near-sighted Magoo (voiced by Jim Backus, of “Gilligan’s Island” fame) as legendary miser Ebenezer Scrooge … and to its credit, the script stays pretty faithful to the Dickens original while also allowing Scrooge to adopt Magoo’s quirks. Morey Amsterdam and Jack Cassidy also are in the voice cast. and the original songs are by Jule Styne and Bob Merrill, whose Broadway credits included “Funny Girl.” Be forewarned that despite Magoo’s amusing demeanor, some of the moments here give heartstrings a forceful yank; we point specifically to Tiny Tim (voice of Joan Gardner) singing “Alone in the World,” which it might help to make an advance buyout of a whole tissue factory for.

40 years of funk: new documentary, ‘Thriller 40,’ delves into iconic Michael Jackson album
Telling the legend of a supernatural talent and his most iconic, immortal album, Showtime premieres the feature-length documentary from director Nelson George (“Brooklyn Boheme,” 2011), “Thriller 40,” Saturday, Dec. 2, on the network, on Paramount+ with Showtime and on MTV. “Released Nov. 30, 1982, ‘Thriller’ — Jackson’s sixth studio album — spawned seven top 10 singles on the Billboard Hot 100 including two No. 1s: ‘Beat It’ and ‘Billie Jean,’” Billboard magazines explains, praising the album in question. “In addition to winning eight Grammys, [‘Thriller’] has been RIAA-certified at 34 times platinum and amassed more than 100 million in sales worldwide, making it the biggest-selling album globally of all time.” Now, 40 years after the album’s release, Nelson welcomes music fans on a trip back in time, allowing them to experience — first hand — the making (and aftermath) of Jackson’s biggest record-breaker, as Paramount promises the film also examines the album’s accompanying short films, said to “forever [redefine] the music video format.” Featuring never-before-seen footage and exclusive interviews,” Paramount says, “‘Thriller 40’ chronicles the creation of a pre-internet global phenomenon unlike anything before it or since. ‘Thriller’ launched Michael Jackson into mega-stardom and to this day continues to influence all aspects of culture and entertainment, including the worlds of music, dance and fashion.” Music and entertainment luminaries, including Paul McCartney (“Let It Be”), Usher (“Yeah”), Mary J. Making the Multiverse: ‘Assembled’ docuseries releases new special for ‘Loki’ Season 2
Pack your bags — we’re headed to the Multiverse. From dimension hopping to costume making to casting, an all-new episode of “Marvel Studios’ Assembled” dives into “The Making of Loki,” exploring the vast universe of “Loki” Season 2. The tell-all documentary premieres Wednesday, Nov. 29, on Disney+. “Assembled” is described by the streamer as “a comprehensive documentary series of specials that goes behind the scenes of the shows and movies of the MCU, following the filmmakers, cast and crew, and Marvel heroes every step of the way, [taking] us behind the scenes with the cast and creative team who brought the [series] to life. “Through candid interviews with the creative minds behind the show, and exclusive on-set footage, discover how the talented team that powered ‘Loki: Season 2’ raised the stakes for this latest MCU adventure,” Disney went on to explain, sharing that this upcoming special allows viewers to “witness imaginative costumes, elaborate environments, and far-out variants, [to] meet new allies Tom Hiddleston and foes, and time-slip across the Multiverse,” as they unravel secrets behind the highly-popular series.
