The Lord is risen! As Christ's disciples, we are called to go forth and spread the good news of His Resurrection. Our parish's many ministries are examples of how many of you answer that call. Our ministries require not only gifts of time and talent, but also of financial help. Last month we introduced a new and exciting way for you to support our parish offertory and second collections: Faith Direct. Faith Direct enables parishioners to make Church contributions through either direct debit from your checking/savings account or through your credit/debit card. No more writing checks or searching for envelopes on your way out the door. Now you can apply the convenience of direct debit to your parish offerings in much the same way as you may now use it to make your mortgage, car or tuition payments. Faith Direct also offers you personalized offertory cards to replace your envelopes for the collection basket.

Please prayerfully consider supporting St. Boniface Martyr with electronic donations through Faith Direct and join me in enrolling securely online at www.faithdirect.net. Our parish code is NY820. God Bless You! Rev. Kevin Dillon

Welcoming Prayer Workshop Consenting to God’s Presence and Action On the Go Saturday, May 20, 2017 The Madonna Room at St. Rocco’s Church 18 Third Street, Glen Cove 10:00 A.M. – 3:00 P.M.

Centering Prayer is about “letting go” in receptivity. The Welcoming Prayer is about “letting go” in activity. It is a method of consenting to God’s presence and action in our physical and emotional reactions to events and situations in daily life. Its purpose is to deepen our relationship with God through consenting in the ordinary activities of our day. This Prayer helps to dismantle the emotional programs of the false-self system and to heal the wounds of a lifetime by addressing them where they are stored – in the body. It contributes to the process of transformation in Christ initiated in Centering Prayer. The practice of Welcoming Prayer is an opportunity to make choices free of the false-self system — responding instead of reacting to the present moment. Through the action of the Holy Spirit, our practice empowers us to take appropriate action as freely and lovingly as possible in any situation that presents itself in our lives. It is helpful for this workshop to have experience with Centering Prayer. Presenter: Therese M. Saulnier has been praying Centering Prayer for 29 years and has been teaching Centering Prayer and other contemplative prayer practices for over 25 years. She holds a Master of Arts degree in Theology from Fordham University and works as a web developer for a major corporation. As a contemplative in everyday life, Therese offers a practical perspective and practical advice in living a contemplative life in 21st century America. Suggested Donation: $10 Please bring bag lunch Coffee and tea provided Pre-registration requested Contact Paula Hastings with your name and the number of people attending via email at paulaoh.ph@gmail.com

All Saints Catholic School Students Attend the Diocesan STEM Fair

First and Second Grade visit the Prayer Garden at St. Patrick’s Church First and Second Grade students commemorated Holy Week by visiting the Prayer Garden and praying the Stations of the Cross together. It was a lovely way to walk the path with Jesus at the most solemn time of the year.

It was an exciting morning at the first Diocesan STEM Fair held at Holy Trinity High School on April 8, 2017. Twenty two schools from across Long Island participated. The All Saints students who were chosen were happy to be among them. Our STEM stars included Brooke Malvino, Olivia Rasweiler, Ellie Haff and Brianna Malvino. Their winning projects ranged from the colonization of Mars to liquefaction on Long Island and the distribution of energy. Judges spoke with all the participants and judged each project. The fair concluded with a Procession of Honor where all the students in grades five through eight assembled for the final awards and certificates. It was a wonderful competition which brought together teachers, students and families from across the Diocese.

happened during the day that still troubles you.

Invest just five minutes a day, and your faith will deepen and grow—a day at a time. Sunday, May 7, 2017 Fourth Sunday of Easter; Good Shepherd Sunday Jesus calls us by name to follow him. The question for any Christian then becomes, How? What path will lead me closest to God? What way can I best serve? Determining one’s calling, or “vocation” (from the Latin vocare, “to call”), is not always easy. But each of us can take certain helpful steps: 1) pray and reflect on what you feel drawn to and where your talents lie; 2) talk to a pastoral minister or spiritual director; 3) confide in trusted friends or family members who can help you consider your options objectively; 4) commit yourself to various practices (Eucharist, service, establishing and maintaining healthy relationships) that will strengthen your spirit and keep you from becoming self-absorbed. Monday, May 8 The notion of what is “clean” and “unclean” is important in Judaism, especially among Orthodox Jews. Purification rituals are observed for a variety of occasions, and many of them require the ritual washing of the hands, or at times a full immersion. Some say that Baptism represents a form of ritual purification adapted from Judaism, and that even the dipping of fingertips in holy water upon entering church is part of that tradition. The apostle Peter, however, helped the early church develop a different definition of purity. Spend some time today reflecting on what helps you feel “clean and pure” spiritually, and then practice it. Tuesday, May 9 If you want to focus on what the church is really about, learning a little something about the first decades and centuries of the church can help, such as reading the Acts of Apostles, the book in scripture that tells the early church’s story. Things like preaching and proclaiming the message of Jesus, believing and being faithful, teaching, and gathering together. It’s doing things like these that make people Christians, then and now. Wednesday, May 10 Here’s a practice you can incorporate into your daily prayer. At the end of your day, recall anything that

Rather than carry over the residue of that worry into the next day, try this: Imagine Jesus standing in a beam of light. Now imagine placing your worries into that circle of light—into Jesus’ care. This is a way to practice trust and faith. Try this on a daily basis, and more of your life will be brought out of the darkness and into the light of Christ’s love and care. Thursday, May 11 Home cooking is great, but sometimes we are hurt the worst by the folks who share food at our table. Our spouses, our siblings, our children, and our grandchildren often betray the family trust and cause us pain that’s hard to forgive. But just as Jesus forgave his closest disciples, those who betrayed him, denied him, and abandoned him in his hour of need, we have the power to forgive our family members for their offenses against us. Peace, like charity, begins at home. Friday, May 12 In the gospels Jesus’ words are often directed to a particular group of people—to the Pharisees and scribes, the crowd, his disciples. Most of us regularly hear the word of God in a large group, the liturgical assembly where, Vatican II reminds us, the presence of Christ is as real as the Eucharist. But faith can also be enlivened in other gatherings such as Bible study groups, small Christian communities, a men’s or women’s group, in the family. Paying attention to what Jesus says when we pray with an open Bible, or with a group of believers, can help to assure that we are becoming more transparent to the Christ within. Saturday, May 13 Persecution has been part of the life of Christians since the church began. Paul and the first disciples faced beatings, imprisonment, mockery, and derision. Yet something about their experience of God was so compelling that they couldn’t help but preach and live the Good News. The early disciples persevered and, as scripture records, they were “filled with joy and the Holy Spirit.” Today we still face emotional and sometimes physical persecution from folks who don’t quite get the gospel, including those with “high standing” in our lives. Let us pray for the courage of our foremothers and forefathers to resolutely live the gospel. ©2017 TrueQuest Communications. All rights reserved. Reprinted with permission from .
