mini mag: issue four

Hiya!

Summer of love

It’s August already? Well... I guess it is! My “month of vacation” in July went by like a dream. A very precious and inspiring dream! I spent lots of time with my kids doing whatever they wanted. I read books, made dreamcatchers, did a Peruvian despacho manifesting ceremony, took lots of pics, started joining my crochet blankie, wrote books on my ipad, played on the beach, did lots of yoga... I watched my 14 year old open her Etsy shop {Miakoda Pauvin}! She set it all up herself, and then hired me to create a banner for her in trade for one of her gorgeous flower crowns.

Really it was incredibly inspiring and heart filling. I’m grateful. Indie Lovely is interactive. It’s formatted to look it’s best on your tablet or smartphone. a few of my faves... 1. We have been coloring mandalas from the mystical mandala coloring book by Alberta Hutchinson like crazy. Tiny loves it. She kinda obsesses over color combos tho... {wonder where she got that from} We bought it while on vacation, from a cute indie shop called Playclothes! Dover publishes it, and many other really cool coloring books that even adults like to color. I can’t help getting drawn into the meditative energy of a mandala. I work from the center out, using one color for each round {Tiny, however, does not}.

2. So who needs some help writing for their blog, website, etsy shop, etc...?

So you know how I joined B-school with Marie Forleo? Well I met another student, and she’s a communications stylist. {yah? What’s that you ask?} See, she helps you write copy that engages. Her name is Nikki Elledge Brown. You gotta check out her free Conversational Copy Cheat Sheet! She totally breaks it down for you. It’s quick and easy to use too! holla!

3. Summer vacation is great and all, but

man, these kids got me eating cookies and cupcakes more than my once a week binge {they’re still gluten and dairy free, but have sugar and just waaaaay too many carbs for me} I get all addicted and cranky. I found food52.com to help inspire me to discover {and cook} some healthy new meals. Try it! You join, then you can save recipes you find. They also have an online market, here’s $10 to spend there when you join!

full of grace

This is a pic of my despacho ceremony that I did with Radiant Dawn at the Michigan Lavender Festival. Isn’t it so pretty?!

A despacho is a Q’ero (Peruvian tribe predating Incas) traditional blessing and manifestation ceremony. Despachos are a wonderful way to harness the positive energy of gratitude to create abundance. You make a beautiful mandala of things that represent areas of your life. What I remember most: she gave me extra cranberries for the community part of my life. I also love these beautiful bells that she rang at the end of the ceremony. They were handmade in Peru. Find out more about the Q’ero tribe and despacho ceremonies HERE. indie lovely

lady of the lake: part one

The path to grace can be gorgeous, it can be light... it can be easy. Or it can be none of those things. The key is to enjoy it as much as you can. The destination isn’t always the most amazing part of the journey, right? Sometimes the paths we take are so lovely, that we want to linger there just a little longer... That’s how I feel about this place. My vacation place. My sacred space. My “commune with the lady of the lake” kinda place. I feel very open to guidance out here on this beach. I feel a tug to it when I feel lost, afraid or sad. I simply get quiet here, and listen. The waves, the birds, my children... then the truth comes. Of course, I’m asking. I’m open to suggestions here... Willing to be downright brutally honest, ready to change paths if need be... The voice of that particular lady of the lake {there are many} usually tells me to chill. Sit back on the sand and breathe. Maybe do some yoga? Or not. I like her. She’s always right on.

There’s a great new app for Walgreens, you can get your instagram pics printed in less than an hour. Um hello, that totally works for me. I printed out a few {hundred} to scrapbook. I wanna plan a scrapbooking night soon. I really like it. I got a new project life kit that I’m gonna modify to use square pics.

Tiny farmer: How to pick raspberries

OK, so you get a bowl, kinda a big one, but not too big. You put on a pretty dress. Head into the berry thicket. You look for the red ones. Pick em quick, eat em faster.

Gifts come to you in very unsuspecting ways... I’m so glad that I have lived my life to the fullest. I will never look back and feel like I could’ve done more. This pic {yes, a real Polaroid, taken by my dad} shows me with my then boyfriend, my best friend, and all our pups. Later that day {which was also my 21st birthday} I would discover that I was pregnant. {we all can look back at life and recall events that totally transformed our thinking at the time, right?} Well this is me right before that happened. We had been living in our VW van, that baby blue sweetheart, traveling around the northwestern US vending at craft shows. At this point we had juuuuust arrived in Bend, OR, to see my dad while he was visiting my grandparents. We camped next to a river in the high desert. It was gorgeous. I fully trusted that the universe would provide for us. And it always did. People loved our handmade candles and incense, I made jewely to sell and my boyfriend made musical instruments out of yucca stalks and tree limbs. We always had enough. And we felt so free. That day changed our lives forever. I was makin a baby! I stopped smoking, started eating better. My focus completely changed from borderline selfishness to the baby growing inside me. {I somehow knew she was a girl!} She helped me realize what was good for me, and what wasn’t. I’m so grateful to this kid for motivating me to learn how to take care of myself. The best birthday gift ever!
