Recommended for‌ This route is recommended for all those who wish to combine their love for the unique ancient and religious sights of the area, the remarkable technological achievement of the Corinth canal and swimming in the fresh waters of the Vouliagmeni lagoon.

Tour description This tour will take you around the area of Corinth where its famous canal separates the Peloponnese from continental Greece. It includes a visit at Ancient Corinth, the cosmopolitan seaside town of Loutraki and the peaceful Vouliagmeni lagoon.

Notable Sights of the Tour The man-made Corinth canal, Acrocorinth, ancient Diolkos, lake Heraion, Vouliagmeni lagoon, cape Melagavi, Loutraki, the Monastery of Saint Patapios, the Isthmus of Corinth and its old bridge, the Corinthian gulf, ancient Isthmia and the Gerania mountains.

* Optional Excursion (only during the summer months): We highly recommend a twohour cruise departing either from Loutraki or Corinth, offering you a unique opportunity to sail along this impressive technological achievement along the Isthmus of Corinth. The Corinth canal, even though it was only completed towards the end of the 19th century (1893), was an idea and vision that is more than two million years old!

Our exploration starts in the morning from Athens and, following a western route, we head off towards Megara and the Gerania mountains, with the coastal settlement of Aegirouses as our destination. After these, and driving right beside the azure blue sea of the Corinthian gulf, we make our way up to the picturesque town of Perachora through a lusciously green, thick pine-tree forest. The magnificent view calls us to explore the area, enchanting our eyes with the amazing blue of the Vouliagmeni lagoon. Before enjoying a dip in its inviting waters, we will pass through curvy roads with low vegetation, reaching the archeological site of the temple of Hera (the ‘Heraion’), where we will enjoy an early evening featuring the most beautiful sunset over the Corinthian gulf at cape Melagavi, with its impressive stone-built lighthouse. From the height at which the lighthouse is situated, the ancient port can be seen lying below it like a drawing placed on a blue canvas. We will move on to the Holy Monastery of Saint Patapios, where we will marvel at the magnificent view over the entire Corinthian gulf, Corinth, Loutraki and the Isthmus of Corinth. Later on, wee will make an optional stop at the most ancient spa of Greece in the cosmopolitan town of Loutraki, which is a modern seaside town with a healthy climate that is full of life throughout the year. We will have the opportunity to stroll along its seemingly endless esplanade or enjoy a coffee next to the waterfalls. Upon leaving Loutraki we will not, of course, pass up the opportunity of making a brief stop at the Corinth canal* before we continue towards the town of Isthmia and ancient Diolkos: the famous canal separates the Peloponnese from continental Greece and joins the Corinthian gulf with the Saronic gulf. Finally, we will arrive at the small village of Ancient Corinth where we will visit the archaeological site with the unique, monolithic Temple of Apollo (one of the oldest of its kind in Greece, c.585B.C.), the Vima where Paul the Apostle used to preach, as well as the Archaeological Museum of Corinth. After our various visits we will have the opportunity to have a wander around the city of Corinth and explore its pedestrianised part, where we can enjoy a cup of coffee or do some shopping
