Avian Haven Park Project

This site is a series of piers in Philadelphia, PA. I was tasked with creating a design providing a useful contrast to the city. Thus, the objectives of human exploration and wildlife preservation became the design focus. This design introduces estuarine marshes, muddy rock riverbanks, and riparian woods as habitat for avian species.

When pairing the human experience with natural conservation, a healthy distance must be kept between man and nature. Ground paths guide pedestrians through the forested area and then become elevated walkways as the site proceeds towards the waterfront. Paths encourage exploration by granting sprawling views resulting from forks in the routes.

Section Elevation:

This section runs along the edge of the forest area, showing the pavillion and various types of trees populating the designed forest.

Concept Site Plan:

The site plan highlights the different ecosystems within the site and the paths that push pedestrians towards the waterfront.
