GRANADA

Highlights Using a provincial Plan2011 to create synergies among all sustainable energy actions made in the region and an ICT as a communication tool to promote a new energy model. The province’s originality started with its international vision. It joined a network of Mediterranean regions (Teenergy project www.teenergy.eu) searching for energy efficiency best practices among towns with the same energy challenges. The region of Granada developed joint and individual strategies to catch the attention of its target audiences – firstly the students from participating cities interacted through internet-based educational tools and competitions (also by means of an IEE European project, Enercities www.enercities.eu). Secondly, the “En Clave de Sol” mobile exposition travelled from school to school, with around 20 modules including interactive computer sessions, and evaluation tools. Granada carried out a successful campaign based on the understanding that to reach the new generations it is necessary to use interactive online media. – Education – Administrative Buildings Target

Granada did not use Display labels but calculated national certificates for 10 schools and 1 administrative building that are part of a group of 50 Mediterranean schools within the Teenergy project aiming to develop highly energy efficiency schools. Numerous regional and local institutions were the main partners of Granada, coordinated by the provincial Energy Agency of Granada. Institutes of the Province of Granada, the Province of Granada and the regional government of Andalusia, provided financial and logistics support. The partnership with the European countries in the Teenergy and Enercities projects was also a key element for the success of this campaign. – Establishing the first European Virtual Competition of EnerCities, a virtual “Energy Party” among students across Europe. – Organising an International Teenergy Workshop about indoor comfort and sustainable energy. – Presenting the PassivHous concepts and the sharing the results of energy certification in 50 schools around the Mediterranean. – Orchestrating Solar Day, an opportunity to show the improvements made in one of the main administrative buildings of the Provincial Government. – Holding a variety of workshops and seminars about energy efficiency plus four municipal energy management courses.

Results – Finalist: 2010 Towards Class “A” Awards.

Top tips – Network with cities that have the same climatic zones should find solutions to common problems. – Utilise internet sites providing educational tools that intended on serving the younger audience. This provides a powerful, yet low-cost educational alternative.

Normal printed publications were the favourite way to disseminate the campaigns actions in the province of Granada. So far, four publications have been produced for the Eco-Ciudad projects, three with the results from Teenergy activities, one yearly publication on energy efficiency in the Province and joint publications with other Mediterranean cities.
