“Originally, I was connected to PYO because I was under 30 when I was diagnosed with HIV. I was looking to make new friends and to learn about my situation. Over the years, I learned how to give back to the community and the importance of connecting other youth to the program for emotional support and education. The program has coloured my life immensely and has inspired me to do similar work in the community. It is because of programs like PYO that youth are able to cope with and accept their HIV statuses. Positive Youth Outreach (PYO) Participant

Thousands of Canadians live with HIV. Unfortunately many feel isolated, as fear and stigma often drive HIV-positive individuals to remain anonymous. But being anonymous doesn’t have to mean being alone. HIV Anonymous was created to give a voice to those Canadians living with HIV anonymously. Our goal is that HIV Anonymous becomes a message of support for all Canadians who are living with HIV – currently over 70,000 in number – while also securing financial support for their needs through the Scotiabank AIDS Walk for Life.

We encourage those living with HIV to share their experiences. When submitting, extra care has been taken that allows the maximum control over your identity and status. Share a story of how stigma and discrimination have affected you. Stories will not only help educate others about the realities of living with HIV and AIDS, but will give support to those who are living anonymously. No one should have to face living with HIV and AIDS in fear or on their own. To show your support of the campaign and all those living with HIV in Canada, download the HIV Anonymous icon and use it as your profile picture on social media to show those living with HIV and AIDS that they are not alone. Visit hivanonymous.ca to share your story; to hear others’ stories; and to download the HIV Anonymous icon to use as your profile picture.
