MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

WELCOME TO CAMP MEETING 2019! Welcome to Camp Meeting for 2019. Another year has flow by on wings, it seems, and here we are again to enjoy another spiritual feast.

be true for our evening plenary speakers, and the various seminar presenters. May you encounter Jesus at each meeting.

Our theme for this year is “Encounters with Jesus.” The New Testament is full of examples of how people encountered Jesus and had their lives changed for the better. It is our hope that we will encounter Jesus anew in our own lives at Camp Meeting 2019.

Camp Meeting is a wonderful opportunity for the church family to reconnect. You will likely run into people you may have not seen or with whom you have not spoken since last year. Feel free to converse and pray for each other throughout the week.

We are very happy to share with you a host of presenters this year that we know will be a great blessing to you. This will

God bless you as you participate in the various opportunities Camp Meeting affords, and may you encounter Jesus afresh in your life.

Gary Hodder

President Alberta Conference 4

“Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. John 17:3 NIV

Jesus Encounters With

Prayer is the avenue to encounter Jesus.

You are invited to take advantage of any or all of the following opportunities for prayer. There are prayer boxes located throughout the camp for your prayer requests. The Prayer Team will bring your prayer requests to God each day.

You are also invited to take a personal prayer journey by visiting various designated spots for prayerful meditation. There will be a map available at the office, which will guide you to these spots throughout the camp property, with inspirational information provided at each site.

There is a time of Prayer and Praise at the Prayer Chapel each day following the evening meeting, concluding with an anointing service on the final Friday evening.

Make time this week to Encounter Jesus.

SUNDAY EVENING CONCERT

The Melashenko Family Singers Concert Sunday Evening 7:30 p.m., July 14

Audiences around the world have been blessed by the close harmonies of The Melashenko Family for more than five decades. Many are acquainted with Pastor Lonnie and Jeannie Melashenko and Pastor Joedy and Judy Melashenko through their preaching and music ministries with The Voice of Prophecy and Quiet Hour Ministries. The patriarch of the family, Pastor Joe Melashenko, was a well-known singing evangelist for many years with the Voice of Prophecy. He was the bass for the King’s Heralds Quartet

when Lonnie and Joedy were just toddlers. Joe and Anne have five boys, Lonnie, Joedy, Dallas, Eugene and Rudy. Lonnie and Joedy began singing together when they were five and six years old with their parents and their younger brothers. They were all young ragamuffins growing up on the wheat fields in central Canada. By the time the boys were four, five, six, seven and eight years old, respectively, they were singing in four-part harmony. Their music has been featured on many television programs seen on 3ABN, HOPE, and SAFE TV. Many have appreciated the Melashenko Family Singers in the “Family Reunion Homecoming” musical DVDs produced by the Voice of Prophecy. 13

2019 CAMP MEETING OFFERINGS

Our main objective is to raise $125,000.00 toward outreach in the Conference. The Alberta Conference Administration would like to thank everyone for their generous participation in last year’s Camp Meeting offering that totaled $122,500. An amount of $48,250 was put directly to work at the local church level for evangelism outreach — helping to lead 188 individuals to make decisions for baptism and profession of faith. The Mamawi Atosketan Native School received $23,575, while $30,000 went to Foothills Camp upgrades and Camp Meeting expense. The remainder of funds received were allocated for Tithe, Sabbath School missions and various World budget offerings.

Friday, July 12, Sunday, July 14 -19 & Sabbath, July 20 (Main Service) Evangelism - The mission of the Alberta Conference and the Northwest Territories is “to reach our territory with the distinctive, Christ-centered, Seventh-day Adventist message of Hope and Wholeness.” We have renewed our emphasis on evangelism in the Alberta Conference by investing aggressively at the local church level, allowing a greater diversity of programs. Sabbath, July 20 (Sabbath School) Sabbath School Offering: World Mission Fund - The Sabbath School, with all its divisions, has long been recognized as the church program that gives weekly emphasis to the worldwide mission. 32

Sabbath, July 13 (Main Service) Mamawi Atosketan Native School: The Alberta Conference runs the largest K-12 Mission School in North America and is making a tremendous difference in the lives of many young first-nations children by providing scholarships to help graduates continue on to higher education. Sabbath, July 20 (PM) Foothills Camp: We are grateful for the many Camp Meetings with which God has blessed us at Foothills Camp as they have been a tremendous encouragement to many people. Your support will help bless our current generation and future generations to grow in Christ in this beautiful setting in nature.

If you wish to receive a tax- deductible receipt for your donation during Camp Meeting, please fill out your name and your complete address on your offering envelope in a legible manner. Thank you.

10 Reasons Adventist Schools Work:

1

2

Spiritual Focus

Seventh-day Adventist schools focus on preparing students not just for success in this life, but for eternity. The ultimate goal of each teacher is to see each student have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

StudentTeacher Ratio

3

4

Most Seventh-day Adventist schools have a low student - teacher ratio. This allows for more individualized attention and instruction. “The benefits of smaller classes extend beyond test scores and student engagement. In addition to the longer-term positive attributes of small class sizes in the early grades, benefits include continued academic and life success.” www2.ncte.org/statement/ why-class-size-matters

Academic Achievement

5

CognitiveGenesis, a four -year study of 30,000 students enrolled in Seventh -day Adventist schools across North America, found that students in Seventh-day Adventist schools achieve an average of half a grade above predicted ability in all subjects.

Tailored Curriculum

6

Seventh-day Adventist schools benefit from a curriculum especially designed for single and multigrade classrooms. The North American Division Office of Education has developed excellent, highquality, standards-based materials for all classrooms. The curriculum is designed so that students are constantly connected with Christ and the possibilities He has for each life.

Family Atmosphere

7

Seventh-day Adventist schools have a family atmosphere that is similar to what students encounter in the real world outside the classroom. “The range of social relationships students build in a multilevel classroom more closely reflects the social situations individuals encounter in workplaces, communities, and families.” edu.gov.mb.ca

Involved Parents

Parents appreciate the stable learning community of Adventist schools and the stronger relationships they are able to develop with their child’s teacher. There are more opportunities for parents to be involved, whether it is volunteering in the classroom, assisting with a field trip, or serving on the local school board.

8

9

Peer Tutoring

“The benefits of having older students offer assistance to younger students are supported by research. Studies show that both the student being tutored and the student doing the tutoring improve academically.” Anderson, R.H. and B. Paven. Nongradeness: Helping it Happen

Community Service

10

Students in Seventh-day Adventist schools are encouraged to become active members of the local community through various community service projects. From putting on a musical program at the nursing home to raking leaves for an elderly person in the school neighborhood, students are actively engaged in showing God’s love to the world.

Higher Education

“A national survey found that 75% of high school dropouts in the United States said that providing smaller classes with more individualized attention would have improved their likelihood of graduating from high school.” Bridgeland, John M. The Silent Epidemic: Perspectives of High School Dropouts

Students who attend Seventh -day Adventist schools are more likely to attend college. Over 85% of graduates from Seventh-day Adventist high schools attend college, and over 80% of them complete college degrees. This is compared to 66% and 14% of public high school students, respectively.

Remediation & Enrichment

In single and multigrade classrooms, remediation and enrichment activities can be more discreetly arranged than in traditional classrooms.

The KAIROS Blanket Exercise HAVE YOU EVER WONDERED WHAT’S IN THE TREATIES OR WHAT IT MIGHT BE LIKE TO BE A FIRST NATIONS PERSON — 100 YEARS AGO OR TODAY?

The Kairos Blanket Excercise, led by Gina Guiboche, is a tool to share the historic and contemporary relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in Canada. Covering over 500 years of history in a one-and-a-half hour workshop, participants take on the roles of Indigenous peoples in Canada to learn little-known but high-impact facts. Standing on blankets that represent the land, participants walk through pre-contact, treaty-making, colonization and resistance by reading scrolls and carrying cards that ultimately determine their outcomes. Bring your own blanket; other items supplied. 42
