Couple in Crisis?

Kem and Amber called it a day shortly before Christmas, and as 2018 dawned, it looked like yet another Love Island couple, Chris and Olivia, were about to split. Luckily, as we reveal this week, the pair are doing their best to make their relationship work – even moving into a plush new pad together. Turn to page 25 for all their latest goss.

ark Wright and Michelle Keegan looked like they were joined at the hip when they were pictured strolling around LA last week after spending a whopping eight months apart. And while the married couple are clearly enjoying every moment of being together again, we can’t help but suspect that ambitious Mark is hoping his love of the LA lifestyle will rub off on his wife soon. Since the Our Girl actress, 30, and her man landed in America at the end of December, she’s been pictured heading to the gym every day. Last week the couple even had a workout session together at Equinox gym – where you can do Pilates, cycling classes and yoga – in West Hollywood. This came just days after the pair enjoyed a hike up the Hollywood Hills and Mark uploaded a snap from their romantic trek to Instagram. Tellingly, the fitness fanatic captioned the shot, “Last sunset of 2017 stateside. Bring on 2018. Live, love, learn, grow, progress, stay healthy happy new year x.”* But while Mark – who’s made no secret of how much he loves living in LA, where he presents Extra – continues to be a poster boy for keeping fit, booze-loving Michelle has

The following day she uploaded an Instagram story of herself ogling plates of doughnuts and wrote next to it, “Hit me up.” Michelle recently admitted that she had relaxed her diet and gained weight. Dav i n a : ‘ i wa n t t o b e a p e r s o n a l t r a i n e r ! ’ The TV presenter turns to fitness in an effort to move on from her marriage…

ewly single Davina McCall is determined to put all her energy into exercising following her split from hubby Matthew Robertson in November – by becoming a personal trainer. Although she may be best known as a TV presenter, the star has released more than a dozen workout DVDs in 13 years and has built up a successful brand when it comes to fitness. And now, she has vowed to throw herself wholeheartedly into helping others battle the bulge.

N

Davina took to Instagram to speak out about loneliness

2017 was tough for Katie

Last week, she took to Twitter to inform fans of her masterplan, tweeting, “Right… my goals in 2018 are all to qualify as fitness instructor … I neeeed a qualification in that area after all this time … #ownyourgoals.”* She also encouraged her followers to share their own aspirations, adding, “what are your fitness goals? Make a public pledge.” And when fitness guru Joe Wicks asked his Twitter followers about their goals for 2018, Davina, 50, reiterated her pledge, responding, “I’m going to get qualified…. I want to become a fitness instructor… after all this time!” Davina has thrown herself into her exercise regime following her split from former Pet Rescue presenter Matthew after 17 years of marriage. She has used social media to show off her toned abs and workout videos as she attempts to move on. In a recent post, she showcased her jaw-dropping six-pack, after telling new!,

“I don’t think I could lose it if I tried. It’s one of those physiological things that I just have.” And although she and Matthew, 49, reportedly spent Christmas together for the sake of their three children, Holly, 16, Tilly, 14, and Chester, 11, Davina hinted she was struggling with the break-up when she shared a video on Instagram dedicated to anyone feeling “lonely” over the holidays. Last year, psychologist Jo Hemmings told us that in the wake of her split Davina “could be using She split from extreme exercise as Matthew a coping mechanism last year to channel her pain”. Jo added, “This could be her way of getting some control back.” With her plans for world fitness domination in full swing, we wonder if Davina still has a lot of emotional healing to do…

J o r Da n : ‘ i n e e D a f r e s h s ta r t ! ’ K atie Price didn’t have the happiest 2017, given that she had to deal with her mum Amy’s terminal illness and husband Kieran Hayler’s latest cheating scandal. But the plucky mum of five, who will turn 40 in May, has vowed to remain positive throughout 2018, telling fans she’s “entering the new year for a fresh start”. The star admitted recently that her public breakdown on Loose Women last year, when she cried while talking about her mum’s lung condition, was the wake-up call she needed to get professional help. Speaking last week, she said, “When I watched that back, I was like, ‘Seriously, I probably need to Kieran admitted go to the doctors to talk about sleeping with the feelings.’ their nanny “It was the best thing I ever did. breaking... br Lauren showed off her new chin – and bruised neck

LAuReN’s bIg ReINveNtION! The former TOWIE star wants to take her life in a new direction – though she can’t seem to shake her ex, Joey Morrisson…

Katie Price is determined to put her “rollercoaster” year well and truly behind her… Do more stuff for yourself and it’s better for your head,” she said. And she’s already got a full diary of professional commitments for the year ahead, as she promised fans she couldn’t wait for them “to see what’s in store”. Not only is she due to perform the rescheduled dates of the one-woman show she cancelled last year, she’s also vowed to audition for the 2019 series of The Voice. She said, “If it’s on, I’m 100% going for it.” And there’s also set to be a new series of her reality show My Crazy Life, due to air later this year. The work commitments will be a welcome distraction as Katie continues to deal with the fall-out from Kieran’s indiscretion. In September, he admitted to sleeping with the family nanny, Nikki Brown, which she denies. Last week, defiant Katie referred to her new positive outlook when she posted a quote on Instagram, which read, “She is full of wounds, riddled with scars but she is still standing and she is still beautiful.” That’s the spirit, love!

auren Goodger has vowed to “rebrand” herself this year – starting off with a brand new chin! As new! revealed last week, Lauren flew to Turkey in December for her latest surgical procedure and she showed off the results – and some painful-looking bruising on her neck – last week. And it isn’t just Lauren’s face that’s changing, she’s also expanding her fake tan empire, Lauren’s Gold, to include make-up brushes as well as providing make-up tutorials. The 31 year old has also hinted at a reconciliation with her jailbird lover Joey Morrisson, who she split from last summer. Proving she hasn’t given up on her dream of marrying Joey and having his baby, she shared a photo of herself modelling a wedding dress on Instagram last week, suggesting she might be ready to walk down the aisle when Joey is released in March. And booze-loving Lozza has even ditched alcohol – perhaps in preparation for starting a family. She tweeted, “My first Christmas

without touching a single drop of alcohol and i have had a calm quiet chilled time.. Thank you to everyone who was there for me another year and i promise im work hard make 2018 a good one #recovery.” She also revealed how she was going to “cut anything that doesn’t serve me any kindness, respect or love”. In a New Year message on Instagram, she added, “So much more to come from me so please no excuses #work #focus #love #kind #commitment #body #work #laurensgold #rebrand #me #peace #nonegativity #happiness.” Lauren’s hopes for a happier year came after she spent Boxing Day with Joey’s family. Posting a photo of herself, Joey’s brother Stephen and a female pal larking around on a sofa, she gushed, “Ended Xmas with a lovely Boxing Day #ThankYou #laughter #giggles #friends #chats #cuddles.” Joey and Stephen’s pregnant sister Charlotte showed her love for her potential future sister-in-law by commenting with a series of heart emojis. Lauren also shared a post of Stephen with a big teeth filter on. She’s got to get her kicks somehow now she’s given up booze! new-magazine.co.uk

He’s toned up and lost a stone

What does Steph think of you doing CBB? She’ll hate it. I’m glad she hates it as well. Because she’s worried about what you might say? I’m a very mature person and an adult, and that’s why I didn’t sink to her level with this Twitter stuff. I’d never go on a show and start bad-mouthing her. I’ve got more respect – not for her, I haven’t got any respect for her – but in general. She’s done everything to try to drag me through the mud and all it’s done is get me on TV. My weight is up and down, I put it on quite easily and I lose it quite easily. So I teamed up with the guys down at FORZA. They gave me some cool workout and diet plans. I went to Budapest for two weeks, didn’t go out and got rid of some of the temptations. Were you body insecure before using FORZA? As much as anyone is. Jess raises cash for the charity Guide Dogs

new-magazine.co.uk

What were your first thoughts about Jess going into the house? I know Jessica felt it was a fantastic opportunity because there was a point to it as it’s the feminist Big Brother series. Do you worry the public won’t like Jess? I don’t at all and I’ve brought Jessica up to never be ashamed of herself and never judge anyone. She’s a very kindhearted and truly lovely person. Could Jess get pushed to the point where she’d walk? I hope not. They’d have to do something really bad. How close are you to Jess? We are very, very close. We speak four or five times a day. I lost my sight ten years ago and she’s been a great help to me. I couldn’t have asked for a better daughter. I’m an extremely lucky mummy.

She didn’t dump Denny for the show

Of course Jess can win, says mum Debbie

How did losing your sight affect Jess growing up? It was very sad at the time because she was studying at the Italia Conti Academy Of Theatre Arts when I started to lose my sight and dropped out to help me. If I had to go anywhere, she’d take me. We also lost my grandson, Jess’s nephew, from meningitis at 13 months. There was lots of sadness in our family at this point and Jessica suffered. Jess is now single. Could she find love in the house? She takes her time. She’s not going to run off with anybody. Did Jess dump Denny to go on the show? No, they had rather a large falling out back in August and split up then. Did you like him? Yes, he’s a nice guy, but I wasn’t living with him. She was. Was there a reason she called time on the relationship? [Pause] I think she just got to the stage where she said, “I’ve had enough now.” I don’t know what the circumstances were. Are they still in touch? They communicate. They have two dogs together. Could they get back together again? From what I can see, it’s the end.

Is Jess broody and keen to settle down at all? She’s very optimistic for the future but I don’t think it’s on her radar at the moment. I wouldn’t think it’s a good idea because she’s just come out of one relationship. Have some time out and enjoy things and enjoy life. How difficult was it for you when Jess was getting trolled after briefly dating Charlie Sheen? It was probably hard for her, but it was just With actor a really innocent, Charlie Sheen lovely day out. What do you make of Jess’s career choices, doing shows like EOTB and TOWIE? They have been great for her. She’s worked hard to get where she’s got. How do you feel about her being known as a glamour model? It’s fine. I’m very happy with her and I’m happy with her choices. Jess has had a boob job. Has she had anything else done? [Pause] She wouldn’t do any more [laughs]. She’d speak openly if you ask her [laughs]. It’s not my place to say. Finally, can Jess win? I’m her mum, so of course I think she can [laughs]. She’s my winner. Olivia Adams

cratch below the surface and Jess Impiazzi isn’t the typical reality star she may seem at first glance. The model turned CBB contestant may have appeared on Ex On The Beach in 2015 and 2016, following cameos on TOWIE in 2012, but in her spare time Jess’s life is a far cry from glitz and glamour. Instead, the budding actress, 28, dotes on her mum, Debbie, who’s been registered blind for ten years, and raises money for charity Guide Dogs. We get together with Debbie, 56, from Surrey, who tells us she’s had a big smile on her face since Jess went into the house. HMP Belmarsh in south London where he is being held, to tell him he was out of their lives for good. “I went to see Arthur and I took Sunday with me,” she said. “I am very angry about what has happened and I needed to communicate that and wanted to hear what Arthur had to say. I thought it was important that Arthur see Sunday and see exactly what his actions have led to him missing out on.” She added, “I strongly feel for the innocent people hurt that night and I in no way condone violence as I have already made clear.” However, Ferne struggled to win sympathy for appearing to turn her back on Arthur when her reality TV show, First Time Mum, aired weeks later – and fans accused her of playing the victim. On the show she said, “I feel like I’m damned if I do and damned if I don’t. What I do next, whatever move I make, people are going to have an opinion on. I haven’t done anything. Josie: ‘I thought that monster was going to kill me!’ Josie spoke out about the assault on social media

Josie Gibson chats exclusively to about her horrific New Year’s Eve assault and why she’s determined not to let her attacker get away with it…

F

urious Josie Gibson has told new! she feared for her life after she was brutally attacked by a stranger in a taxi – and has vowed to bring the “monster” who did it to justice. Josie had been enjoying New Year’s Eve celebrations with her best friend Demi Hobbs when the pair befriended a man and offered him a lift home. But their kindness backfired when the man allegedly began “groping” her pal – and when they told him to get out of the taxi, he turned violent. She told us, “We told him we weren’t standing for that and to get the f**k out of our taxi! With that he started punching Demi. “I was doing everything in my power to make him stop. I got in the way and he hit me in the head. I got the black eye from where he punched me.”

When their attacker showed no signs of stopping, Josie hit him with her shoe. She said, “I hit him with it about four times to try and stop him hitting Demi. Luckily I got him. But when we thought it was all over, he opened up the back of the taxi and started laying into Demi again. This girl is 8st 7lbs. He’s a woman-beating bully. I hate him so much.” The assault, which Josie has reported to the police, left her with a severely bruised face that “swelled up like elephant Josie tried to defend her friend Demi

woman”. Her friend Demi was so badly hurt that doctors were performing tests, including a CT scan, last Thursday. Josie continued, “I can’t believe we let a monster like that get in a taxi with us. I honestly thought he was going to kill us. He was punching Demi like he was in a boxing ring. I grew up in a violent household and I forgot how disgusting it was to see a man batter a woman like that.” Josie, 32, chose to go public with her story after learning her alleged attacker had a history of violent behaviour. But she was shocked by the reaction she got online, with some people even claiming she deserved to be attacked. Speaking to us just three days after the incident, she said, “I can’t believe how much hate I’ve got for outing him. I made it public because I found out who he was and I found

a video of him saying how much he likes prison. I thought, ‘If he likes prison, I’m going to shame this man and make him understand what he did was wrong.’ “It’s been awful. I’ve been told I deserved it, I should be drinking through a straw, I shouldn’t leave the house and – the best one – I drew my black eye on. I haven’t slept for two days. I’m so freaking angry about it.” She added, “He picked the wrong woman to do this to. I’m not frightened of a little womanbeating bully!” A spokesperson for Avon & Somerset Police told new!, “We can confirm we are investigating allegations of an assault by a man on a woman shortly after midnight on New Year’s Day. The victim – who is in her 30s – suffered facial injuries but did not require hospital treatment.”

close, as Ampika’s been great for Kerry, especially with her divorce getting nasty.” Our source was referring to the incident just before Christmas, which saw police arrive at Ampika’s house as George came to collect his and Kerry’s three-year-old daughter Dylan-Jorge for the holidays. According to our mole, George had been sending Kerry “nasty” messages and Ampika was not happy when he turned up on her doorstep. We were told, “Ampika was disgusted. Kerry told George he wasn’t allowed to have DJ. He turned up and she still refused to hand her over. Poor DJ was crying and George called the police. Ampika had stern words with Kerry over George turning up, as not only were Kerry’s kids there, but Ampika’s son Jake was, too.” Our source continued, “Kerry did eventually let George see DJ over the holidays, but she made it clear he’s not to go to Ampika’s again.” But George took to Twitter with a very different take on things. He said, “I see the

Please don’t try to make out they were there to watch me.”* It’s also been claimed that George has demanded £5,000 per week from Kerry as part of the pair’s divorce settlement, but she’s worried that she’ll struggle to pay it. Our source continued, “Kerry’s terribly upset. She can’t afford to pay George what he wants or go to court!” Hopefully, Kez will find solace (and cash) in a tour with Ampika, who revealed plans before Christmas to hit the road with her pal. I’m actually quite sensitive so I’m kind of hoping I won’t take it too much to heart if it’s bad criticism. I’ll hopefully use it constructively and just want to improve. My only problem is, if it was something personal. Like if the criticism was about your body or appearance. The costumes are really skimpy! Did you watch what you ate over Christmas? Not really. I had the best intentions, but it’s Christmas and a time to relax your diet a little bit and enjoy it. I knew once Christmas was done I’d be back training and working hard. Have you noticed a change in your body since you’ve been skating? Not much. I was hoping I’d have my new bum by now, but that’s not happened. I think it’s because I’m eating more to compensate for the training. I’ve not noticed differences. We heard you had an accident and hurt your hand… I’ve had a few falls… well, a lot of falls! But the natural instinct is to put your hands out to save yourself and I kept falling on my left hand. Every time it was healing, I’d fall on it again, and the last time it started swelling up. I keep it strapped up now, so that if I do fall I’ve got something to protect it. I’ve also landed on my knees a few times so I’ve got a lot of swelling and fluid on my knee as well. The last fall I had, I actually cracked my knee pad, so if I hadn’t had that knee pad on I would’ve been out of the competition! Have you bonded with the other contestants? Oh, we’re all so close. We’ve got a really lovely group of people. You know, you’re all in the same boat. It’s not competitive. I mean, obviously you’ll see people on the ice and think, “They’re doing really well,” and it might knock your confidence a little bit because you might think you’re not as good as them, but that just makes you

We were just having a laugh. I don’t even fancy him. We knew the cameras were there and we were just messing around. Do you have a boyfriend at the moment? I’m seeing someone, but he’s not in the business. And I just want to keep that private. It’s been a while now. Has he been supportive? Oh yeah, he really has. But he’s not on any social media and I want to keep it that way. That’s why I just usually say I’m single. It’s easier. What’s been the hardest part about training for the show? Learning new moves and nailing it. The whole process has been really hard, but rewarding at the same time. I’ve fallen in love with ice skating. I’ve got the bug and I’d love to carry it on after I finish the show. GEmmA mcCArTnEY Dancing On Ice, ITV, Sunday, 6pm

Kim’s two-yearold son Saint had pneumonia

As she prepares for her surrogate to give birth, Kim Kardashian spends a stressful few days at her son’s bedside

20

It should be an exciting time for Kim Kardashian and her husband Kanye West as they eagerly await the arrival of baby number three. But the pair were left frantic with worry last week when their son, Saint, two, was hospitalised with pneumonia. Thankfully, Saint was released in time for New Year’s Eve and Kim, 37, and Kanye, 40, celebrated by posting a snap of themselves sharing a kiss as the clock struck midnight. Kim spoke publicly about the incident last week saying, “My precious baby boy is so strong! After three nights in the hospital & seeing my baby get multiple IV’s and hooked up to oxygen machines, our end of year was challenging. Pneumonia is so scary. I just want to thanks every nurse & doctor out there who works so hard around the clock. We’re so grateful for you all! He’s home and all better.”* The star also took to social media to address haters who accused her of partying on NYE while her son was in hospital. She said, “I did not leave my son for one minute during his hospital stay. We were there Wednesday night to Saturday. NYE WAS SUNDAY NIGHT. People came over when he was already asleep for the night! Don’t even try me when it comes to my kids.” Saint’s illness will have been a huge blow to Kim, who’s nervously awaiting the arrival of her daughter via a surrogate. As we recently reported, Kim’s been growing concerned about the huge media interest in their surrogate and has been worried about her safety. And Kim, who is also mum to daughter North, four, has admitted how hard it has been for another woman to carry her baby. “I think it’s so much harder… because you’re not really in control, ” she said. Let’s hope Kim’s stress levels return to normal when the baby arrives!

The model was attacked after posting a snap of herself wearing a polka-dot dress on Instagram. “What’s happening to your stomach?” one follower asked, while another said, “Definitely pregnant!” A third mused, “The way her belly rounds it looks like she is pregnant.” But furious Kendall, 22, hit back, telling the trolls, “I just like bagels ok!!!” It’s little wonder she’s angry, as it isn’t the first time her size 8 body’s been slated. “try and keep Louise away from Kevin” as she was “ruining” her marriage. Lou and Jamie, 44, who have sons Charley, 13, and Beau, nine together, were granted a decree nisi on December 29, with court papers citing the former footballer’s “unreasonable behaviour” for causing the end of their marriage. The divorce will be final within six weeks. However, it’s since been claimed Louise filed divorce papers as early as last March, just days after she and Kevin had finished the Strictly tour. As new! reported last week, Kevin’s been a big supporter of Louise’s solo comeback and is even choreographing her Intimate Live UK tour, which restarts on January 20 in Manchester. Meanwhile, last Tuesday – just days after his divorce from Louise became a reality – Jamie jetted to the Bahamas with their son, Beau. And Karen, who was linked to accountant Stuart Wood, 27, last month, seemed to address her marital woes. On New Year’s Eve she said, “Self-destruction is not an option”, and made reference to “rebuilding yourself”, heavily hinting she and Kevin have split. Watch this space… Karmel Doughty

This week, Pete takes the family skiing in France and introduces Junior to a film director

well done, J! So if all goes to plan, my first big work project this year will be in America. I had the pleasure of having my friend and movie director James Hickox come and spend the day with me and the family recently. We spent quality time together and talked all things script-related. We plan to start filming soon in Los Angeles. I’m very darn excited, I can tell you! While James was over, I got Junior to meet him and told James he’s a little star in the making. Speaking of J, he’s just won

a scholarship to go to a new school. I applied for him last November and I was so proud when they sent me a letter telling me he’d been accepted. The school specialises in drama and sport, and he starts there next year. I’d actually love to take J over to LA with me, but only on his school hols, of course.

Farmer’s life I posted this pic of me and Theo at a friend’s farm in Somerset. It was Theo’s first time at a dairy farm and he absolutely loved all the animals. He’s a little trooper and getting so tall. In that respect, he clearly takes after his mum rather than his dad, ha ha! Before Christmas I told you how he’d started lifting himself up. Well, now he can stand up on his own for, like, 15 seconds. We’re still waiting for him to walk, but he’s made proper progress.

Unravelling my roots

Emily got me a great Christmas present – a DNA testing kit so I can investigate my family heritage. I mean, I presume because both my parents are from Cyprus that I’m of Cypriot descent, but I may be Russian – who knows? Not only does the kit tell you where you’re from DNA-wise, it also tells you what foods you should eat and which ones are likely to make you more susceptible to illnesses. You can find out everything, and it’s an absolutely brilliant present! When I first opened it, I didn’t realise how good it was, but as soon as I investigated what was involved, I loved it. I haven’t had a chance to use it yet, but when I do I’ll let you know what I found out.

Sugar crackdown It’s that time of year when everyone’s on a health My vie kick, so it’s quite fitting that a new scheme is urging on w t parents to limit their kids to just two snacks a day n e wh e s – each one coming in at under 100 calories. So that would rule out bags of crisps and most chocolate bars, then! J and P love chocolate, they get that from me, but it’s about finding a balance. So if they eat all their veggies up at dinner, they can have some chocolate. Public Health England has launched a new Change4Life campaign that gives you money-off coupons for low-sugar foods such as yoghurts and drinks. It’s a great initiative, but the coupons can only be used in certain supermarkets. Healthy food must cost less than junk food everywhere, otherwise it’ll be hard to get people on board. Personally, I believe that what our kids eat is just as important as making sure they’re active. I find that when I exercise I’m less likely to eat junk food, and I think leading a more active lifestyle might encourage people to generally eat healthier anyway.

Fun on the slopes!

Emily, Amelia, Theo and I saw in the new year at the in-laws’ house in Somerset, which was really, really good. Great friends, great food, great fireworks and great music. We all had a fantastic Christmas, and all the children were in their element with their pressies. I did, however, go for a gadget-free Christmas for them. We had a wonderful day. Emily went back to work last Tuesday and I’ve loved my time back at home with the kids. As I’m writing my column we’re on a skiing holiday in France. We absolutely love our family skiing trips, and this year is extra special because Amelia is on the slopes for the first time. We’re also celebrating her fourth birthday here, so it’s a double bonus. We’re having a great time!

Celebs so These ladies look sensational in the surf, whatever their age!

20s

Selena Gomez Cally Jane Beech It’s no surprise Cally looks so at home on the beach in Tenerife – it’s in her name after all! Despite putting on a stone during her pregnancy with daughter Vienna, it looks like the former Love Island star, 26, is back to her petite 7st 10lbs pre-baby weight!

30

new-magazine.co.uk

The 25 year old enjoyed a girls’ break in Cabo, Mexico, over the New Year, and despite having had a rough time during 2017 – which saw her have a life-saving kidney operation due to complications related to lupus – the star looked happier than ever! Following her op, Selena has a new-found respect for her body. She said, “I don’t have perfect abs, but I feel like I’m wonderfully made.”

Millie Mackintosh No wonder fiancé Hugo Taylor couldn’t wait to put a ring on it – just look at Millie’s bod! The star, 28, showed off the results of her five workouts a week – including two cardio sessions and three with weights – during a recent trip to Antigua. The hard work has paid off, Millie!

ak up the sun! Alexandra Burke The Strictly star, 29, continues to keep us guessing about whether or not she’s engaged to her boyfriend, Josh Ginnelly, by keeping her ring finger on her left hand hidden. But she’s clearly not ashamed to show off the rest of her body! She looked amazing in Thailand and recently revealed she eats six small meals a day and also does an hour of circuit training “five or six times a week” to keep her size 8 figure. Impressive!

Georgia Harrison We think Love Island ’s Georgia, 23, looked great during a holiday in Tenerife, but it didn’t stop some fans from accusing her of putting them “under pressure to look as skinny”. Georgia – who does high-intensity workouts – hit back, saying, “There is nothing wrong with the way I look. I’ve always been slim.” Well said! Holly Willoughby Holly has kept the nation fascinated with her recent weight loss – and judging by this snap from her holiday in Barbados last week, the mum of three, 36, didn’t pile on any pounds over Christmas! Sadly, she isn’t keen to share any tips, saying, “I avoid talking about my diet and exercise regime because I have interviewed so many people affected by eating disorders.”

30s Casey Batchelor

Pregnant star Casey looked bloo min’ lovely when she hit the beach in Lan zarote last month! And despite her grow ing baby bump, the former CBB star, 33, has con tinued sharing her yoga stretches onli ne, telling fans it “eases pregnancy ach es and pains”. We’ll take your word for it!

Naomi Watts

Lady Victoria Hervey She made a name for herself as a 90s It girl, but now the 41 year old leads a more lowkey lifestyle – and it’s clearly doing wonders for her figure, as we can see from this pic of her in Barbados. Speaking about her boozy past, she said, “I don’t know how we used to do it back then. I was out a week and a half ago and my tolerance is really low. I’d been on a two-hour hike that day. In the evening, I had two vodka tonics and was hungover the next day. Unless it‘s champagne, I can’t really handle it.”

Watt a stunner Naomi looks in her swimsuit! The actress looked younger than her 49 years as she was seen doing cartwheels and playing football with her family on an Australian beach. And the star has yoga to thank for her figure, admitting she now prefers “softer” workouts. Naomi said, “I did do a lot of aerobic and cardio workouts before, but now I’ve slowed down.”

40s

Stella McCartney The 46 year old looked in stellar (geddit?) shape when she hit the beach in St Barts, so it’s no surprise the fashion designer isn’t afraid of working up a sweat. She revealed she goes on runs, rides her bike and plays football with children Reiley, Beckett, Bailey and Miller. Sounds exhausting!

Lauren Silverman Mum Lauren, 40, certainly had the wow factor as she soaked up the sun in Barbados along with partner Simon Cowell and three-year-old son Eric. Lauren, who’s also mum to Adam, 11, spent much of the holiday paddle-boarding – perhaps that’s the secret to her toned tum…

After insisting she was “not estranged” from husband Ant McPartlin, Lisa Armstrong has given the strongest hint yet that all is not well between the two. Lisa – who is head of make-up and hair on Strictly Come Dancing – made it clear she wanted to leave her troubles behind her when she uploaded a cartoon version of herself holding a bin bag labelled “2017” on to Twitter on New Year’s Eve. Her post came after weeks of speculation about the state of their 12-year marriage. A source said that Ant “sees no way back for their marriage” – and Lisa “has been struggling to accept it”. What are the triggers that put your healthy eating at risk? Crisps are always going to be my vice but I’m like a preprogrammed computer, so I don’t see them any more. If I see them, I see obese me – and that person doesn’t exist any more. So you’re not scared of becoming “obese Lisa” again… No. I’ll never physically become that again because of the life I lead now and how happy I am. You’ll never see me fail! Why would I ever go back to any of my old habits? But do you ever have the urge to cheat? No. Why would I? What stops you from falling off the clean-living bandwagon? My reflection. Literally getting out of the bath in the morning and the towel dropping and me blowdrying my hair naked in the mirror. When was the last time you weighed yourself? I don’t – scales are evil. What matters is how healthy I am. I’m not doing this for anyone but myself. Have you kept any of your size 28 clothes? I was a bridesmaid at my brother Liam’s wedding and you could fit four of me in the dress. We call it our Glastonbury tent. I’m still in denial over how enormous I was, so onwards and upwards. You say in your book you’re now getting acting jobs you weren’t considered for before. Do you feel like you’re taken more seriously as an actress now? most phenomenal respect for my acting. I was always the fat, funny one. I’m still doing comedy but I’m also getting the serious, gritty roles. Does it annoy you that you’re only getting these kind of roles now? As an actor you’re portraying someone else, so if you’re obese, like I was, I was always portraying someone who was chronically obese. Now there are so many more roles for me to portray. You’ve said that when you were larger, you could see the dread in other people when you’d get on public transport. Do you get that now when you see obese people? No, I embrace sympathy. They’re lost and confused. They were in a place where I was and I want to help them.

Have any of your larger friends stopped socialising with you since you lost weight? No. They’ve just realised the magic wand doesn’t exist. James Corden [who starred with Lisa in Fat Friends] is my oldest fat friend in the world and he started clean eating at the same time Sam Smith did. And when he had Sam on Carpool Karaoke he said he only had himself to blame, and I thought, “Good on you, James!” When you used to visualise how you’d look slimmer, was it how you look now? No, how I look now is even better! Everything’s She starred with neat now and James Corden looks how it’s in Fat Friends back in 2000 supposed to look. Are you still with your boyfriend? Yes, it’s been three and a half years now but I just don’t talk about it. That’s the reason we work so well. He must be very proud of you… Oh yeah, proud beyond words. Have things in the bedroom improved since you lost weight? They’ve always been brilliant [laughs]. I’m 41 and very happy! The former X Factor and CBB star, 23, dishes on her party girl lifestyle and love of home cooking… HeigHt 5FT 5in

WeigHt 9sT 13lBs Dress size 10

How is your diet in general? It’s healthy, but not lacking in calories. I like to make real food and try not to have too many takeaways or microwave meals. When I’m cooking I’ll make hearty meals like jacket potato with coleslaw or dumplings. Are you body confident? I’ve found confidence has come with age. There are parts of my body I’m really confident about. My bum is big, but I can thank the Kardashians for making that trendy. And I always get complimented on my feet! I’m not so confident with my legs, though. They’re quite muscular. How often do you exercise? I try to do an hour and a half of some sort of exercise every day, including working out with a trainer around five times a week. That’s really good for motivating me. I also like doing HIIT warm ups, so I’ll run on a cross trainer for 40 seconds, then walk for 20 seconds.

Do you enjoy working out? I love it. It makes me feel great. The only problem is finding the time to do it. Do you drink much alcohol? I’m diabetic so I have to watch my sugar intake. Thankfully, I don’t have much of a sweet tooth, but there can be loads of sugar in alcoholic drinks. I’m a bit of a party girl, so I try to stick to gin with slimline tonic. What’s your favourite takeaway? I’m a Middlesbrough girl, so I love a chicken parmo [a chicken escalope topped with white sauce and melted cheese] with garlic chips. BreAKfASt “I had one slice of sourdough toast with half an avocado and two poached eggs. Oh, and a big glass of water!” NUTRITION CONSULTANT IAN MARBER SAYS, “Sourdough contains around 1.5g fibre per slice, while half an avocado has around 6.5g, so Amelia is having a high-fibre and, with the eggs, protein-rich breakfast. There are also monounsaturated fats in the avocado so it ticks all the boxes.”

SNACKS “Because I eat big meals,

I never really snack. I try to keep myself full enough until my next meal. I do drink loads of water throughout the day though.” IAN SAYS, “Snacking doesn’t suit everyone, and while it may keep energy levels up, it also adds significantly to daily calorie intake.” new-magazine.co.uk

WORDS: Olivia Adams PHOTOS: Flynet Pictures

w

hat part of your body do you work on the most? I’m really focusing on my core because I feel I need to strengthen my stomach to improve my back. What is your main motivation to keep fit? My job, because it involves long hours and travel. It’s not necessarily about being thin, it’s just about having energy. Do you think it’s important to enjoy exercising? I think it is because if you dread it, you’re going to find every excuse not to do it. That’s why I stayed fit for so many years, because I was always dancing. Now I’m older I just want to get it over and done with, so I do sprinting. What advice would you give to anyone looking to get fit? The sooner you start, the sooner you’re going to see results. Literally get off your sofa right now and do it!

We like it! Is it important to balance eating and exercise? I think so. I’m just a normal girl – I love wine, I love chocolate, I love the odd burger. But I also love healthy meals. Everything in moderation. What’s your biggest challenge when it comes to staying fit? Being in a comfort zone. When I’m happy and everything’s going well at work, and everything’s going well in my relationships and my home life, I feel it’s hard to get motivated. I’m so happy in my life at the moment, but I had many years where I wasn’t and it was much easier to go to the gym because it was a way of switching off. Is there a new physical challenge you’d still love to try? I’d love to learn something like Cirque du Soleil acrobatics. See Kelly on Fit In 5 on Sky On Demand

‘Blogger Belle’s ca lies betrayed her With millions of us flocking to online gurus to help us reach our health and fitness goals, there’s no better time to read this cautionary tale…

F

our years ago, Australian blogger Belle Gibson, now 26, had the world at her feet. With her tale of miraculously overcoming terminal brain cancer – allegedly through her diet alone – she amassed a huge following on social media. This enabled her to launch a nutrition app, The Whole Pantry, backed by Apple, while a recipe book with publishing giant Penguin soon followed. A large amount of the proceeds from her business went to charity, she claimed.

“Cancer scams have existed for years,” says writer Beau Donelly. “But Belle’s incredible reach was made possible by her online following. It’s a cautionary tale of our time.” How Belle Gibson wasn’t found out sooner is a mystery. Growing up in a dysfunctional family in her hometown of Brisbane, Australia, she was a known compulsive liar, making up medical dramas – from cardiac arrests to nearly dying on the operating table. “We all felt like none of her stories she sold us were true,” says Margaret Weier, who started at high school with Belle in 2004. “All of the friends we spoke to said she spun lie after lie,” confirms Beau. “But for them to physically call her out on not actually having cancer – it seemed unthinkable.” The internet gave her anonymity and power and, as a teen using chat rooms, she started to indulge her lies further. “As early as 2005, she was posting on forums about suffering from brain cancer,” said Jason Klemm, who’d chatted online with Belle.

BrAIn Tumour Belle met Nathan Corbett and fell pregnant aged 18 in 2010. They split shortly afterwards and she became a single parent to her son, Oli. Online parenting forums gave her another platform, where she’d detail juggling treatments for various forms of cancer with weaning and night feeds. And when she launched an Instagram account in 2010, sympathetic followers rushed to like her photos and her profile soon grew.

58

Belle received awards for her work in 2014

But it was all a lie. Belle hadn’t been suffering from cancer, and she hadn’t donated much cash to noble causes. Incredibly, no one had checked out her story. In fact, it was only when journalists at Australia’s The Age newspaper were tipped off by Belle’s inner circle that her lies were eventually exposed. Here, new! recounts her unbelievable story of deception, speaking exclusively to Beau Donelly, one of the journalists who uncovered Belle’s web of lies…

“Healing Belle” became a brand, a series of stylised food, drink and lifestyle photos supposedly showing her treatments for medical conditions she claimed to have. These ailments included, shockingly, a brain tumour. Claiming she’d been diagnosed in 2009, Belle wrote about ditching chemotherapy for “a quest to heal naturally… through nutrition, patience, determination and love”.* She led people to believe the approach had completely cured her from once-terminal cancer. Incredibly, Belle amassed 200,000 followers by 2013 and began recruiting a team to launch a lifestyle app. “Instagram was in its infancy and wellness apps barely existed,” says Beau. “It was right product, right time. And her incredible story topped it off – people want to believe in miracles.” She’d met new partner Clive in 2012 and with his support, Belle grew in confidence. On August 5, 2013, The Whole Pantry app went live with Paleo, gluten-free and vegan recipes and a shopping-list function. It was downloaded 300,000 times. “This was big news,” says Beau. “By the end of 2013, it was named

Her The Whole Pantry app was a big success

Apple’s best food and drink app, and the second-best iPhone app in the world.” Soon, leading Journalist Beau publisher Penguin uncovered her lies agreed to a lucrative cookbook deal. Still, no one had thought to check out her story. “There were huge red flags – this gorgeous woman, oozing vitality, jetting across the world, who had cancer. But this became her selling point. It gave hope to anyone who had just received a heartbreaking diagnosis,” explains Beau. But in July 2014, she made a major mistake. Taking to social media she claimed the cancer had spread to her vital organs. “It hurts me to find space tonight to let you all know with love and strength that I’ve been diagnosed with a third and fourth cancer. One is secondary and the other is primary. I have cancer in my blood, spleen, brain, uterus, and liver. I am hurting,” she wrote. But while there was an outpouring of sympathy from fans, friends were confused. “It contradicted all of her claims for curing herself, and they’d seen no evidence of the drastic illness,” says Beau. Her partner Clive reportedly even referred to the cancer as “a f***ing joke”, while a close friend, Chanelle, went to her house a few weeks later to “stage an intervention”, asking for information on surgeons and specialists. “People who are sick are going to read that,” Chanelle remembers saying to Belle. “Do you really feel comfortable when you don’t even know if your diagnosis is correct?” “She didn’t give them a straight answer,” says Beau.

Still, her book came out in October that year and flew off the shelves. “Chanelle had just lost a family friend to cancer, someone she had offered dietary advice to, based on Belle’s claims. She felt betrayed and concerned. She came to us in early 2015 and told us everything, but wouldn’t go on record,” says Beau. Digging deeper, he and his team at the newspaper pulled up old newspaper articles, magazine write-ups, blog entries, social media posts and morning TV appearances. “It was always the same. Gibson was ‘an inspiration’ but the details were vague. There were no locations, no hospital names, no specialists,” he recalls. The team at The Age compiled a summary of her cancer claims and sent it around to experts. “A leading oncologist called it ‘totally implausible’ and another said he was

‘sceptical’. Before long we had five people in her inner circle telling us they suspected she was lying,” says Beau. “But our lawyers said we needed hard proof.”

lies exposed Luckily, there was something they could prove – her charitable donations. Or lack of. “She claimed to have donated at least £174,000 to various causes,” says Beau. They contacted the charities Belle had aligned herself with and most had nothing under her name. “There was our proof,” says Beau. They finally approached Belle in March 2015 with a series of questions on email. Ironically, she was on her way to the memorial service of a wellness blogger, Jess Ainscough, who’d shunned traditional medicine for cancer and had died.

“Her reply was 1,500 garbled words,” says Beau. “She didn’t really answer anything.” The Age published the story the following day. While at first fans rushed to her defence, the tide soon turned. “This is nothing short of common thievery and I look forward to seeing justice in due course. LIAR,” said one disgruntled follower. The next day, newspaper The Australian ran a full exposé on its front page under the headline: “Mega-blogger Belle Gibson casts doubt on her own cancer claims.” It included an interview with Belle from years earlier where she admitted her case could have been a “misdiagnosis” by a magnetic therapy team from Germany. “She went into meltdown – deleting posts and photos from The Whole Pantry’s social media accounts in a desperate attempt to erase history,” says Beau. People were distraught. They had fallen in love with Belle, they had trusted her. And those who had cancer, or relatives with cancer, were understandably fuming. “While we can’t prove her advice led to deaths directly, we spoke to many relatives of those who had died from cancer who followed Belle. They spent time trawling markets looking for rare ingredients Belle claimed to be cancerfighting – goji berries or beeswax – instead of cherishing the last moments with their loved ones. They were sold false hope,” adds Beau. Meanwhile, her book was withdrawn from publication and her app and social networks shut down. The closest Belle came to confessing was in a magazine article in April 2015, where she said she had “a problem with the truth”. “I am still jumping between what I think I know and what is reality,” she said. Even when she appeared on hard-hitting TV show 60 Minutes in the June of that year, she answered questions vaguely. When asked if a conventional doctor diagnosed her, she said, “It was a box, a machine with lights on the front.” The doctor, she said, was a man called Mark Johns. He has never been found. Belle was ordered to federal court last September but she didn’t show up. She was fined £240,000 for misleading her readers. It’s estimated she amassed around £580,000 from her success – 60 Minutes reportedly paid her £26,000 for her appearance alone, while Penguin has paid £17,000 in fines for publishing her book. “There are so many lessons to be learned here,” says Beau. “Belle rose through the ranks without the blessing of traditional media, which can be a good thing, but in this case it was dangerous. We should never be afraid to ask for evidence and be questioning things that seem too good to be true.” Belle now lives in the inner-city suburb of Northcote, in Melbourne’s north east. She keeps a low profile.

What’s all the about fascia?

In the world of fitness, “fascia” is a hot new buzzword. But what exactly finds out… is it and why do we need to know about it?

e

ver wondered why personal trainers, fitness experts and “influencers” in the expanding wellness movement are obsessed with foam rolling? Well, it’s to do with something in your body called fascia. Pronounced “fay-sha”, it’s a bit like a cling-film wrap that covers your muscles and organs. The realities of daily life – including sitting at a desk for hours on end – can cause tightness in our fascia, which can bring a world of pain. Here, new! reveals all the facts on fascia…

What is fascia?

60

Our bodies are made up of many parts we’ve all heard of – bones, muscles, blood vessels and nerves – but there’s also a very important element that’s not so well known, our fascia. It’s a complex network of connective tissue mainly made up of two proteins, collagen and elastin. It surrounds and integrates every single part of our bodies to keep everything in place. “Fascia is a type of internal skin. It’s like a sausage casing – but tighter and not nearly as elastic – that wraps muscles, tissues and organs,” explains Georgios Tzenichristos, skincare specialist and director of LipoTherapeia.com. In fact, the fascial network is what connects every part of your body, and it isn’t just an inert tissue. “Fascia has ten times as many sensory receptors as muscle,” says fascia stretch therapist Katelyn Faison. “These receptors communicate directly with our brain and nervous system to inform emotion, motor control, pain intensity, imagined pain, anxiety and temperature.”

Why can it be problematic?

The stresses and strains of everyday life make fascia tight or stiff, and instead of encasing our muscles in a smooth, neat and ordered way, it can stick to other structures including muscles and skin. “Fascia is a web of interconnected tissue that looks a bit like the result of throwing a plate of spaghetti on to a sticky surface,” explains Suzanne Wylde, author of Moving Stretch: Work Your Fascia To Free Your Body. The areas where it sticks are called “adhesions” and can lead to movement restriction, poor circulation, pain and inflammation. “Areas of tightness tend to hide deeper in areas such as the pelvis, and they can pull your body out of alignment,” says Suzanne. “So if you have a pain in your shoulder, it might be referred pain from another area where the fascia is tight.” Worryingly, research has even shown that inflammation and connective tissue stiffness can contribute to the growth and spread of cancerous tumours.

hoW to deal With tissue tension

“Myofascial release” is a type of massage technique that is used to move and stretch the fascia to release tightness (“myo” meaning muscle and “fascial” referring to the fascia). “Imagine it as the equivalent of ironing a creased, crumpled shirt,” explains Georgios. Meanwhile, “Rolfing” (yes, really) is a form of hands-on bodywork and movement training that helps the fascia work more effectively, and fascial stretch therapy (FST) is another useful technique – where fascia is stretched in a specific way by a therapist. “Many professional sports leagues are using FST and now it’s hitting the mainstream,” says Katelyn. “It helps achieve greater range of motion (ROM) without pain, and optimises your posture, which influences how vibrant you look.”

Self-massage can help keep your fascia supple and problem-free, says personal trainer Nikki Clarke…

Pause and relax when you find any tight spots. You should feel the muscles relaxing and tenderness easing.

Avoid rolling your neck and lower back. These are two areas where it’s best to see a professional if you’re in discomfort.

If an area is extremely painful, stop immediately and seek advice from a professional. Foam rolling is meant to aid discomfort, not add to it.

Keeping our fascia fabulous!

“Fascia is a strong, useful, living structure. But if you’re sedentary, the fibres get tangly and dehydrated,” says Suzanne. “Instead we should be trying to move in a variety of ways – similar to how monkeys move – rather than in a prescribed, linear way like you would using weight machines in the gym.” As well as staying hydrated and eating a nutritious diet, Suzanne advises having fun and avoiding stress to help keep your fascia in tip-top condition. “Many of us are taking small sips of air from the top of our lungs, while we should be breathing much more deeply to get oxygen to our cells,” she says. “And we should stretch in the

way that animals do naturally. When a cat stretches it engages all its muscles, sinks its claws into the ground and sits back. That’s what we call ‘resistance stretching’, and when humans use this method, we engage our muscles and our fascia, meaning we work more effectively on releasing tension or adhesions.” Finally, it’s worth remembering that healthy fascia is vital for looking good from head to toe. Suzanne explains, “Experts think that when fascia frays it can cause wrinkles in your skin, so it could be that a healthy fascia keeps us looking more youthful!”

I’ve always been a fit, active person, but in February 2015, I gradually developed a pain on the underside of my right foot. It kept getting worse, until one day I woke up and found I couldn’t put my foot down and walk. I was convinced I must have fractured it. I hobbled to A&E in Hammersmith and doctors carried out an X-ray on my foot. “You have plantar fasciitis,” one told me straightaway. “It’s caused by inflammation in the plantar fascia, the flexible band of tissue that runs under the sole of the foot to act as a shock absorber.” I was doing a lot of running at the time, which I think was to blame, combined with high-intensity interval training (HIIT), workouts and weights. I was told to rest the foot, but that didn’t provide much relief. Then, chatting to my friend about it, he said he had suffered from the same thing. “Roll your foot over a tennis ball,” he advised. “It releases tension in the fascia.” So I started doing that two or three times every day and it immediately felt better. After a couple of weeks I was back to exercising again, although I cut back on running. My foot is much better now. I have the occasional flare-up where the underside of my foot starts to feel painful, but I roll it over a tennis ball for a couple of days and the pain disappears. I’m much more aware of fascia now, and I’ve since done myofascial release rolling workshops, which have been great for my tight shoulders and hamstrings. Looking after our fascia is so important for helping to prevent injuries – more people need to be aware of it.

‘We make billionai dreams come true ‘JuStin BieBer LoveD my cAke creAtion’

Debbie Wingham, 36, has homes in London and Los Angeles. She started her professional life in fashion but moved on to high end baking. And we mean high end – her cakes are some of the most unusual and expensive edible creations on the planet. Here, she tells us how her spectacular bakes help celebrate everything from pop star’s tours to billionaire baby christenings… “No one eat it,” Justin Bieber warned his entourage at the 02 arena in 2016 as they admired the cake I’d created. It was made to look like a realistic snippet of his tour life – skateboard, shirt, magazine cover, sunglasses, hat the catwalk cake featured over 4,000 diamonds

and microphone all made of cake. He was so happy with it, he took it back to LA on his private jet. I still don’t know if he actually ate it! Sometimes I have to pinch myself when I’m in my London home whisking up the unthinkable simply from flour, eggs, sugar and milk. It’s a dream job, but I sort of fell into it. My mother was a seamstress and passed down her trade to me. When I was 18, I moved from Yorkshire to London to start making clothes. Soon I was selling dresses at Greenwich Market. It wasn’t long before the big fashion players noticed and celebrities began wearing my gowns on the red carpet. After I had my daughters Olivia, now 15, Grace, now 13, and Scarlett, now six, we spent a lot of time baking together. “You could create cakes like your dresses,” they’d say. “You’d be great at that,” agreed my husband Damian, 43. It got me thinking. I started making elaborate bakes for the girls’ birthdays, but it was only when a wealthy Arab client came over in 2015 to pick up a gown for his daughter’s engagement party that I was thrust into a baking career. He caught sight of the “bake room”, a place I go with my girls to create cakes.

the armchair cake took two weeks to make

“You must bake a cake for the party too,” he insisted. Soon, his staff were calling with a list of demands – it had to be 6ft long and have real diamonds dotted all over it. I designed a catwalk featuring fashionistas like US Vogue editor Anna Wintour, all made from cake. The icing included a 5.2-carat pink diamond, a 6.4-carat yellow diamond and 15 individual 5-carat white diamonds. Those 17 stones alone were worth £30million and there were another 4,000 stones, all a carat or more. I worked on the cake for 1,100 hours and the total cost was an eye-watering £48.5million. It became the world’s most expensive, and famous, cake after it appeared in the press. Since then I’ve made cakes for billionaire businessmen, pop stars, TV personalities and big

I realised what an untapped market it was. In the US, baby showers were almost as important as weddings, but over here they were more low-key. So while on maternity leave I made plans for my baby shower business. I wanted gorgeous themes, a focus on the mum and an “anything goes” service. The first party I did in 2011 was for a lovely lady called Michelle. She had a pick-and-mix bar, non-alcoholic cocktails and a candy stripe fairground theme.

companies. Every week I buy 50 dozen eggs, 15kg of flour, 15kg of sugar and 10kg of Belgian chocolate for my work. One of my most lavish creations was for a baby girl’s christening last year. Her cake featured a Fabergé egg on top containing a diamond-encrusted bracelet. I can’t reveal the cost of that one – but it was a lot! Kids’ parties can be the most outlandish projects and I’m like Willy Wonka – more is more! One of my clients last year was a fouryear-old girl and she took all the calls from me herself, listing her demands for her extravaganza. “I have to have a giant Jelly Baby,” she said, matter of factly. “I want seven tiers too.” The cake was a real centrepiece – with a little edible device to dispense pieces of candy from the front, which I added as a last minute surprise.

I designed stationery – name tags, favour bags and seat planners, just like at a wedding – and got the best suppliers on board. I also thought up funny games, like team relays and maternity dress-making competitions. I got so many nice comments from her guests afterwards that it gave me the confidence to take things to the next level. I now plan around two baby showers a week, helped by six members of staff. It’s a 24-hour job, but I get so much out of it.

Debbie says cake making is a dream job

We meet two women who get paid to make the lives of the super-rich even more glamorous…

Justin flew his tour cake back to LA on his private jet

I’ve had many celebrity clients. As well as Justin Bieber, I’ve baked for Drake, who wanted a bomber jacket and watch made out of cake. I created a macaroon tower cake for Rylan Clark-Neal’s wedding, and I’ve made cakes for Sharon Osbourne, Amanda Holden and the stars of Downton Abbey. There have been a few disasters, though. One company commissioned me to bake an armchair and it took me two solid weeks. Then Olivia came home from school, mistook it for a real chair, threw her bag down on it and made a hole in the middle! I had to start all over again. Sometimes, I have to manage expectations, too. Recently, I was

asked if I’d make a “smash” cake – a cake made for a ritual at children’s parties where the cake is destroyed and the kids are filmed doing so. But this one was to be covered in expensive jewels and it just didn’t seem right, so I refused. But all in all, I adore what I do and the people I deal with. Yes, the demands can be crazy, the hours are long and it’s a labour of love – but look at the beautiful things I get to create!

I have a real eye for detail, and sometimes I work all night to ensure everything runs smoothly. I’ve not had a disaster yet! Prices start at £30 a head, but my most luxurious party to date cost £20,000. The client, a wealthy

businesswoman, demanded a full size carousel, a sit-down meal for 400 guests, spa treatments, a popcorn stand and lots of cakes. It was like a wedding do, held at her parents’ country house. I’ve worked with many famous faces too. Stacey Solomon had quite a classic affair, with a blue theme because she knew she was having a boy. She even had her bump painted with red stripes and a cupcake by a professional artist, as she loves cakes! While pregnant with her first daughter, Ariana, Imogen Thomas

Chrystal arranged baby showers for Stacey and Billie

The Jelly Baby cake had its own sweet dispenser

had her baby shower at a restaurant and had a vintage theme with lots of little extras like a cookie buffet in vintage jars. Billie Faiers also used our services before she gave birth to Nelly in 2014. Her party was in a marquee at her home and she had a sherbert theme with lots of pink lemonade, little cups of strawberry milkshake with pink doughnuts on top, mini balloons and a hand-made ribbon wall with paper flowers. It was beautiful. The thing I love about my job is how artistic I get to be – I have a

vision and can run with it. I also find it fascinating seeing how themes catch on – last year it was all unicorns and rose gold! Some people turn their noses up at anyone spending so much on a party for an unborn child, but I think it’s important for the mum-to-be to feel special before the focus becomes all about the baby.

the Spa hotel The hoTel: This country mansion in Royal Tunbridge Wells first opened its doors as a hotel back in 1880 and counts royalty among its early guests. The bedrooms are elegant and individually decorated, and we were really impressed by how huge and comfy our bed was. We had a balcony overlooking the picturesque grounds, too. At the more casual Zagatos Bar & Brasserie, we feasted on roast Norfolk chicken and wild mushrooms, which was delicious. There’s also fine dining on offer in The Chandelier Restaurant, or you can indulge in a swanky afternoon tea in The Orangery. “Another area that may have benefitted from Botox is her eyebrows. They’ve been dramatically raised. Many people have the brows slightly raised, to open up the eyes. With Faryal, the brows have been elevated so high, her eyes look quite intense.”

“Faryal’s forehead looks completely wrinkle free, with some slight bumps, which could be down to use of Botox.”

“Her nose appears to be much slimmer. There was a slight bump, which has now been smoothed out. The tip and nostrils look like they’ve been slightly thinned down and lifted. Rhinoplasty would be the only way to achieve this look.”

“Her lips look like they’ve become overfilled. There isn’t any shape to them, which explains why she’s tried to over-line them.”

“On her left-hand side, the cheek looks pumped and somewhat sculpted. The other side looks much flatter. I imagine more dermal filler was put in her left cheek than her right.”

The actor joined the rest of the showbiz elite in Barbados over the holidays (for such a small island it sure packs in a hell of a lot of celebs!) and looked seriously sexy as he soaked up the Caribbean sun with his wife, Rhea Durham, and their four kids. Monday Jan 15, 8pm, W We’re starting to wonder if Rylan Clark-Neal ever rests. He currently seems to be everywhere we look, from CBB’s spin-off to repeats of his doomed ITV game show Babushka. And for those of you who are still not sick of the sight of him, he’s presenting a new beach-themed game show on UKTV’s W channel. The premise sees pairs of contestants compete for cash, which is located out in the sea. So, in other words, they have to swim for their loot. Did you expect Freedom Child to get such a good reaction? We’ll always get nervous, thinking, “Is this the album that doesn’t work?” In today’s climate, people are consuming things so fast and throwing them away so fast. I don’t believe there’s anything like an illustrious career. I just believe people have a string of comebacks! How do you know you’re going to produce a good album? You don’t. You just keep writing. But I’ve got faith in us as writers. The system obviously works… Well, to be honest, we don’t have a system and that’s why it works. Normally, if you have a system, it tends to break down.

We’re very fluid in that way. I swear it’s like looking for gold. You literally sift through. What does it feel like when you know you’ve written a good song? It’s honestly like seeing the person you love for the first time. When you hear a lyric, it’s this amazing feeling that no matter what is going on in my life at the time, I’m not doing shit until I finish the song. It literally wipes the whole world away and keeps me in that room. Tell us about your surgery… I’d got pretty far in life with the singing technique I had, but that last year of touring really did some damage to me. I was partying – smoking and drinking – as well as singing. I know the likes of Sam Smith and Adele had the same surgery as me, and they were quite young when they had it. I managed to get to about

The star has had a bitter split from Kelsey

We also saw you go through a difficult divorce on camera… It was extremely difficult. [Kelsey confessed to having a six-month affair behind her back.] I wanted to bury my head in the sand and hide but I couldn’t. A divorce alone is difficult but it was so public. I felt shame, humility, embarrassment and pain, and I couldn’t suffer in silence. I had to deal with the public weighing in on how they felt about me as a person versus Kelsey, who people loved as Frasier. Are you in a better place with Kelsey now for the kids’ sake? No, any communication is between third parties. It’s unfortunate, but I’ve learned to accept that that is the way it is. It’s a shame that our divorce was so public because I think we would’ve been in a much better place if it wasn’t.

But you’re happily engaged to David now. Congratulations! Thanks! I’m very happy. He’s a wonderful man. He’s very supportive and we have a lot in common – we’ve both been through a divorce and we appreciate everything we have learned from previous relationships, so we can do better this time around. Will the housewives be invited to your wedding? Of course they will! Well, maybe not all of them. But you’ll have to watch what happens when I introduce him to everyone. Even though I’m a “friend”, I’m not immune to the drama. There’s a woman in particular that I clash with, but you’ll have to watch to see why! The Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills is on Hayu, reality on demand

Justin timberlake filthy

Although initially a pop superstar, back in the midnoughties the ambitious Trousersnake slithered his way to the top of the acting tree – where he’s been ever since. But despite his attempts to become a latter-day Larry Olivier, JT knows his true talent lies in music. Which is why he’s wisely returned with brand-new material, his first in four years (if you discount his rather excellent contribution to the Trolls movie, Can’t Stop The Feeling!, that is). This, the teaser single from his forthcoming album Man Of The Woods, is classic Justin – a futuristic pop/ funk masterclass, with a seductive bass line and suggestive lyrics that make SexyBack sound like a nursery rhyme. We like.

Who would play you in a movie about your life? Tom Hardy! Absolutely no question. Have you ever binge-watched a box set and what was it? How long have you got? My favourite one was Sons Of Anarchy. It’s about motorcycle gangs. It’s unbelievable. When was the last time you Netflix and chilled? Very recently, ha ha! Is there a song that reminds you of an embarrassing moment? Ali G and Shaggy’s Me Julie, because I got kicked out of the pub I worked in by singing it on karaoke! It seems the DJ was completely weirded out by me singing it. What was the last book you finished? A book about the Kray twins but I can’t remember what it’s called. It’s from the perspective of someone who worked with them, a Cypriot guy. [It’s Inside The Firm by Tony Lambrianou, Zoners.] Are you much of a reader? I’m not, really. I’m more into films. Time is a limited factor in my life, so I always find other things to procrastinate with. I do enjoy a book on holiday, though. I can’t go away without taking a couple with me. Talking of films, have you ever left the cinema before the end of one? No, I haven’t – I think that’s weird. Once you’re in there, you have to follow it through because you never know what’s going to happen. Who do you think is on TV too much? I don’t know because all the ones that I can think of are really good and I enjoy them, like Holly Willoughby and Ant and Dec. Maybe Bradley Walsh? Who’s not on TV enough? David Attenborough. He’s such a proper top guy. He reminds me of a grandad figure – someone who’s dead warm and chilled and nice. If you could have your own X Factor-style panel to judge your life decisions, who would be on it? Morgan Freeman because he’s so philosophical, Henry VIII because I’d like to see how he judges someone after the kinds of things he did in his life, Ant and Dec – can they count as one and we’ll have Dec sitting on Ant’s knee? – and Keith Lemon because he’s just hilarious. He’s the TV hunk who’s taken the nation by storm – so in the interest of giving the people what they want, here’s everything you need to know about gorgeous McMafia star James Norton…

He Has a famous girlfriend (boo!) James has been dating actress Imogen Poots since they met on the set of the play Belleville last year. Which shouldn’t surprise his nearest and dearest, as he’s got form when it comes to wooing his co-stars. He also romanced I’d Do Anything runner-up Jessie Buckley when they appeared together in War And Peace, and actress Eleanor Wyld, after meeting during the filming of movie Bonobo. The cad.

He’s tipped to be tHe new 007 He’s related to david cameron! Don’t panic, he’s a very distant relative of the former PM turned villain – but a relative nonetheless! The actor is linked to Dave through ancient ancestry and is of English, Irish, Scottish and Cornish heritage.

THai square Forget Dry January, Veganuary and all the other restrictive fads we’re supposed to put ourselves through this month. Instead, we suggest getting down to Thai Square for a delicious curry and a glass of well-earned vino. After all, we’ve been back at work for well over a week now. We owe it to ourselves. The chain, which has restaurants across the South East, is perfect for an affordable – but delish – Thai dish. We went to London’s Mansion House branch new-magazine.co.uk

Not-so-shy James has gone completely starkers on screen before, notably in the comedy-drama Bonobo in 2014. The naughty actor, who played Ralph, can be seen performing yoga poses in one sexy scene, before shocking a furious onlooker with his nudist ways. We, on the other hand, are not complaining.

Finally, we guzzled it all down with a bottle of Shiraz (£24.95) and pretended we were still on holiday. Bliss. food n Thaisq.com

It’s hardly surprising that thanks to his suave turn as a gangster’s son in McMafia, fans have demanded James take the Bond baton from Daniel Craig. One fan even called the first episode of the BBC drama “James Norton’s audition for Bond” while another said, “Tuxedo? Check. Caviar? Check. Just need a shaken, not stirred Martini!”

Three BillBoards ouTside eBBing, Missouri FILM starring: Frances McdorMand, Woody harrelson, saM rockWell rating: 15 What’s it all about?

This Oscar-tipped movie is a black comedy from the director of In Bruges. A grieving mother, Mildred (McDormand), puts three billboards up in her local area, complaining about the police handling of her daughter’s murder case. It doesn’t sound particularly cheery, but there are laughs to be had.

What’s good?

It’s bitterly funny and beautifully performed. McDormand is hands-down brilliant as the scathing, sarcastic, foul-mouthed Mildred, who is never more hilarious than when taking the cops down a peg or two. Sam Rockwell also stands out as one of the dimmer and funnier policemen, while Woody Harrelson is basically one of the good guys.

What’s bad?

As you can tell by the subject matter, expect disturbing scenes, and a very cynical outlook on life that won’t appeal to everyone.

Verdict: a pretty uncoMFortable but Very entertaining Watch HHHH

darkesT hour starring: gary oldMan, kristin scott thoMas, lily JaMes rating: pg What’s it all about?

In this biopic, new Prime Minister Winston Churchill (Oldman) faces world-changing decisions as he rises to power as the Second World War begins.

What’s good?

A classy, well-shot period drama from the director of Atonement, this has an awards-worthy turn from a barely recognisable Oldman. Lily James is sweet as his new secretary, and their interactions bring humour and moving moments. And Kristin Scott Thomas is perfect as his wife.

What’s bad?

If you’ve seen other Churchill films in the past – and goodness knows there have been many – it might all seem a little bit familiar.

EXPRESS YOUR SELFIE!

W

e’ve got selfie envy as we scroll through former Love Island star Olivia Buckland’s Instagram. But behind every saucy shot of the blonde is an even saucier photographer, as she tells us fiancé Alex Bowen is the man in charge of the cam. Boyfriend goals! Here, Olivia, 24, talks wedding planning and why she loves a good filter… We’re loving this cute snap! What’s the story behind it? It was taken when me and Alex went out with his mum and stepdad. We went out for dinner and he told me we were going to Milan for my birthday. It was the perfect picture opportunity. We’re guessing you get along well with Alex’s family… Yes! It was just nice to spend time with them because they live so far away.

SociAL Me...Me...

how is wedding planning coming along? I got through quite a lot the other day. My wedding planner is one of my best friends, and she popped over to see the new house and we sat down and sorted a few things out. The guest list is all done and dusted and the Save The Dates are out. Would you say you’ve turned into a bridezilla? A little bit. You don’t realise how stressful it is until you go through it. There’s so much to organise. I think the bridezilla will make its way out fully eventually. has Alex been hands-on? He was hands-on when he tried the cakes, but he lets me get on with it because he knows I’m quite picky and he trusts my opinion. I think he’s trying to keep me calm about it at the minute. What are you most excited about? I’m really excited for the first dance – that will be amazing.

We’re sure the day won’t be short of a good selfie! What are your thoughts on them? I’m a fan, as long as you’re doing it for yourself. I love a selfie and I’m always taking them in the car or taxis when I’m bored. Are you always pestering Alex to take snaps of you? Alex takes my outfit pics. He’s like, “Oh my God, Olivia,” because I’ll have my ring light set up. Are you into editing selfies? I use the VSCO app because it has the best filters ever – I love it. do you know anyone who takes too many selfies? You know what? Alex takes a lot of selfies, probably more than me. He’s the selfie king.
