NEED A LOT OF MENTORING BEFORE HITTING US$ 5 TRILLION ECONOMY

Dear Friends.

Elections across India have marred many thingsspecially the IT market. Although IT is becoming core enabler for any kind of functionality of the organization, yet this is the sector which is getting more affected. Suddenly, the news comes that the market is about to go through slowdown, the employees of IT organizations get pink slip. Especially the workers in IT & ITeS companies are becoming the victims of the syndrome. For example, during the 2019 parliament election, people said market is slow, which is natural but during the elections too, especially in the case of Maharashtra assembly election, market has gone down- although stock exchange is going up. So, what are the criteria that the IT organizations would bank upon for their investment and employees’ retention? Now the country (read India) is gunning for an economy of US$ 5 trillion by 2025 from today’s $2.7 trillion economy. There has to be much needed stress on creating export-led economy, which

means development of more and more manufacturing has to be at the forefront. Now the industry must support the growth. They have to move on a digital transformation path quickly so that there are no stumbling blocks on the operation side – be it inter employees or with the customers. Of course, government organizations have their own speed of growth, but they are also embracing speed to achieve the target number. What is challenging here is the difference in practice, standards, process and culture. Many organizations are confused about how to go about – whether on premise or cloud. If cloud what form of cloud? Therefore, there is a huge paucity of skillsets and mentoring. Keeping these things in mind, Enterprise IT World is taking initiatives of creating platform of mentoring. The latest and biggest one is CIO500 event, which is happening on 13-15 of December 2019 at Hotel Pullman Novotel, Aerocity. We have invited 500 CIOs and IT heads from top 500 organizations in India, who will experience two days of activities which would include keynotes, presentations and panel discussions done by senior CIOs and technology vendors. We are taking topics around digital transformations to cloud, AI, AR, VR, Security, IOT, etc. This is going to be a big experience for the IT leaders. They can learn from each other’s experiences and would carry back a great experience. I would invite you to join the event and block the dates. It is 13-15 December 2019, Hotel Pullman Novotel, Aerocity, New Delhi.

Trend Micro Predicts Escalating Cloud and Supply Chain Risk for 2020 B Y S A N J AY @ A C C E N T I N FO M E D I A . C O M

Trend Micro Report 2020 predicts that organizations will face a growing risk from their cloud and the supply chain. The growing popularity of cloud and DevOps environments will continue to drive business agility while exposing organizations, from enterprises to manufacturers, to third-party risk. Attackers will increasingly go after corporate data stored in the cloud via code injection attacks like deserialization bugs, cross-site scripting & SQL injection. They will either target cloud providers directly or compromise third-party libraries to do this. In fact, the increasing use of third-party code

by organizations employing a DevOps culture will increase business risk in 2020 and beyond. Compromised container components and libraries used in serverless and microservices architectures will further broaden the enterprise attack surface, as traditional security practices struggle to keep up. MSPs will be targeted in 2020 as an avenue for compromising multiple organizations via a single target. Besides looking to steal valuable corporate and customer data, they will also install malware to sabotage smart factories and extort money via ransomware.

Automobili Lamborghini Accelerates Trust and Authenticity with Salesforce Blockchain Automobili Lamborghini is using Salesforce Blockchain to quickly and securely authenticate heritage Lamborghini cars. Lamborghini has turned to Salesforce to revolutionize the customer experience and maintain the value of its heritage vehicles. When a Lamborghini is resold, the vehicle often goes through 800 to 1,000 certification checks that take place at the Lamborghini headquarters in Sant’Agata Bolognese, Italy. Conducting these thorough inspections require Lamborghini technicians to work with a massive network of resources—photographers, auction houses, dealerships, repair shops, newspapers, magazines and other media sources—to curate the full history and most importantly

By leveraging Salesforce Blockchain, Lamborghini can create a trust network between these distributed partners—enabling it to authenticate each heritage vehicle faster and more securely than ever before. With Salesforce Blockchain, Lamborghini is digitizing its authentication process by creating a trust network among technicians, repair shops, dealerships and more. Each vehicle will have an immutable record of service, including restoration, prior ownership and more and will be armed against potential counterfeiting—ensuring these exotic vehicles become even more valuable throughout their lifespan.

About The Book

Check Point Software Technologies has introduced a new IoT cyber security technology offering – a consolidated security solution that hardens and protects the firmware of IoT devices and makes them secure against the most sophisticated attacks. The technology is provided through the acquisition of Cymplify, a startup based in Tel Aviv. The new technology will be integrated into Check Point’s Infinity architecture. The proliferation of IoT devices in Consumer, Enterprise, Industrial and Healthcare organizations, and their inher-

ent security weaknesses, have created a security blind spot where cybercriminals launch 5th and 6th generation of cyber attacks to breach devices (IP camera surveillance), manipulate their operation (medical device infiltration) or even take over critical infrastructure (manufacturing plant) to generate colossal damage. With the technology, it is now possible to take an IP camera, a Smart TV, an elevator controller or a medical device such as an infusion pump, and in a rapid manner, harden and protect it against advanced zero day attacks.

The book contains extensive criteria grounded in past and current successful projects and activities by experienced Cloud Based ERP Solution practitioners. Its value ensures that the outcomes of your efforts in Cloud Based ERP Solution are maximized with professional results.

Key Feature This book equips you to combat any Cloud Based ERP Solution challenge.

Enterprises to Shift Investment to Hybrid Cloud Architectures: Nutanix According to Nutanix’s second global Enterprise Cloud Index survey and research report, enterprises plan to aggressively shift investment to hybrid cloud architectures. Respondents have reported steady and substantial hybrid deployment plans over the next five years. The vast majority of 2019 survey respondents (85%) selected hybrid cloud as their ideal IT operating model. The researcher, Vanson Bourne, surveyed 2,650 IT decision-makers in 24 countries around the world. The report illustrated that creating and executing a cloud strategy has become a multidi10 ENTERPRISE IT WORLD  NOVEMBER 2019

mensional challenge. At one time, a primary value proposition associated with the public cloud was substantial upfront capex savings. Now, enterprises have discovered that there are other considerations when selecting the best cloud for the business as well, and that one size cloud strategy doesn’t fit all use cases. For example, while applications with unpredictable usage may be best suited to the public clouds offering elastic IT resources, workloads with more predictable characteristics can often run on-premises at a lower cost than public cloud.

Array Networks Supports Application and DataAccess Coherence in 100 Smart Cities Mission

Titan Explores the Potential of Leveraging AI

Addressing the question whether ‘algorithms learn from the designers and designs, and serve as capable assistants augmenting the creative teams’, Titan’s AI experts are exploring the potential of GAN. Generative Adversarial Networks (GAN) is a Deep Learning neural network that continuously improves over time by playing the dual roles of ‘doer’ and ‘critic’. Titan’s AI team trained the neural network with thousands of images from the company’s stellar collections to create this powerful tool. Generating new designs at the rate of over one per second, this tool enables the watch designer to quickly select and shortlist new watch concepts for

further evaluation and development. The tool can either operate in an autonomous mode, or under the control of designers who direct its creativity through a simple, intuitive interface. With features such as the ability to blend aesthetic elements of successful watches, re-imagine watch forms and generating new concepts quickly, this tool is designed to augment the capabilities of our watch designers. Further developments such as using AI to predict new products success rate, quantify cannibalisation effects with existing designs are currently underway. Post successful completion of the pilot, this tool is now being readied for deployment.

Array Networks is extending its support towards transforming the Smart Cities landscape in India. Supporting the ‘100 Smart Cities Mission’ initiative by the Union Government of India, Array Networks is involved in various stages of Smart Cities implementation for multiple cities in India. Smart Cities projects have contributed to Array’s growth rate in 2019 by 40 %. By the end of 2020, Array aims to be part of 20 more Smart Cities. “Array Networks has a strong presence in the Indian market and supports application and data-access coherence needed for Smart Cities. Our Products help Smart Cities transform and accelerate their applications, gain agility and has a range of products with functionalities such as next-gen firewalls, application delivery controllers, WAFs, IDS/IPS, DDoS and more. We are cognizant of the fact that the government’s push towards digitalization and investment in public infrastructure would require robust network infrastructure to improve citizen experience and we are committed to Smart Cities program for achieving this,” said Manish Gautam, Managing Director - India, Array Networks.

Cloudera Empowers Banks in Asia Pacific to Combat Financial Crimes

More than half of the 30 largest banks in Asia Pacific (excluding stateowned banks in China) have chosen Cloudera to enhance their data strategy to accelerate digital transformation, improve customer experiences, and meet regulatory and compliance requirements. Cloudera also counts eight of the top 10 largest banks in Southeast Asia as customers. With 75% of companies in the Asia Pacific region falling victim to financial crime over the past 12 months, the pressure is on for financial

institutions to rely on data, analytics, ML and AI technologies to capitalize on the information needed to combat financial crime. Given the complexity and variety of financial and sensitive customer data, many financial institutions have also transitioned to Cloudera’s cloud-agnostic platform that is optimized for the scale and complexity of the data that the industry demands. “Financial crime is one of the greatest challenges for banks as it not only causes monetary losses but also adversely affects reputation and customer relationships. Criminal networks are becoming increasingly creative and ready to exploit any opportunity inside or around the edges of business operations. As the need to overcome the siloed and overwhelming data landscape increases, financial services institutions have to adopt innovative approaches to better leverage data and analytics and protect themselves from known and unknown threats, while keeping up with regulatory changes. We are proud to be chosen by top banks in the region to help them make insights-driven decisions to secure their organizations as they grow,” said Mark Micallef, Vice President APJ, Cloudera.

Tenable Surpasses 100 Zero-Day Discoveries in 2019

Tenable has surpassed 100 zero-day discoveries in a single year. The most recent discovery includes several flaws in MikroTik routers which left an

estimated half a million public-facing targets exposed. Tenable Research leverages its deep vulnerability expertise to identify previouslyundisclosed flaws to ensure organizations and consumers are secure. Some of the team’s most notable discoveries this year include a vulnerability in Slack that could be used for corporate espionage or file manipulation, and flaws in Verizon routers that left millions of consumers exposed. “Tenable is building the largest vulnerability intelligence knowledge base and one of the largest security research teams in the industry. We rely on this expertise to share with the community and help our customers find and fix vulnerabilities faster and more accurately. The more zero-days we find and disclose, the fewer there are for bad actors to covertly leverage. Tenable Research is committed to working alongside vendors and the entire security community to identify, disclose and patch vulnerable technology to keep everyone more secure,” said Renaud Deraison, Co-Founder and CTO, Tenable.

Verizon Expands Enterprise SD-WAN portfolio with Co Management Service Level Verizon has introduced a new level of service – ‘Co Management’ – for its SD WAN managed services portfolio. With this, Verizon is eliminating the worry of managing or knowing individual vendor complexities and providing uniform, intent-based interfaces across multi-vendor platforms. This new level of service gives enterprise customers the ability to change SD WAN policies (for example, Application Aware Routing, Quality of Service) through either the Verizon Enterprise Center (VEC) self-service, policy management portal (Portal) or Verizon’s Application Program-

ming Interface (API) platform. The self-service portal enables customers to define intents based on users, applications, sites and their WAN links, and then apply the intents to different policy objects based on business needs. Giving customers self-control of application policies enables them to be more agile and responsive to their specific business needs, and ultimately, therefore, will enhance the overall user experience. Any policies and configurations that are not supported in the Portal or via APIs are still managed by Verizon.

Barracuda launches Cloud Application Protection to Secure Web Apps

Barracuda’s new Cloud Application Protection (CAP) platform addresses the escalating application security threats faced by today’s organizations. Barracuda CAP provides web application security, including a new WAF-as-a-Service solution that is built on Microsoft Azure and available in the Azure Marketplace. As part of the Barracuda CAP platform, the new WAF-as-a-Service is fully featured yet easy to deploy and manage. This brings application security to a broader market. In addition to WAF capabilities, the CAP platform also includes application vulnerability scanning and remediation, advanced bot protection, DDoS protection, and API security. “Organizations need application security that’s both easy to manage and flexible enough to protect applications wherever they are deployed. Barracuda Cloud Application Protection platform and WAFas-a-Service hosted on the public cloud make that possible for a broader market,” said Tim Jefferson, SVP of Data Protection, Network and Application Security,

Engineering and Product Management, Barracuda. Barracuda’s WAF-as-a-Service uses Azure to provide local availability and ease-of-deployment across all 54 Azure regions. Barracuda WAF-as-a-Service retains the granular controls and customization offered in Barracuda’s WAF — yet it can be deployed as a service from the Azure Marketplace within only a few clicks and, within minutes, protect an organization’s web-facing applications. Barracuda’s Cloud Application Protection solutions are also being bundled by system integrators and resellers. One example is 10th Magnitude’s newlyreleased Healthcare Optimized Azure CAF (Cloud Adoption Framework) Landing Zone — a Marketplace offering that bundles services, consulting, workload migration, and Barracuda’s WAF for security, and is designed for healthcare providers looking for a more secure and simple way to migrate workloads and applications to Azure.

FireEye Report Reveals Chinese Cyber Espionage Intrusion through MESSAGETAP Malware

In a recent report FireEye has identified a unique malware called MESSAGETAP that infects SMS servers within telecommunication organizations to aid cyber espionage intrusions.

The new malware family used by APT41 (a Chinese APT group), is designed to monitor and save SMS traffic from specific phone numbers, IMSI numbers and keywords for subsequent theft. Named MESSAGETAP, the tool was deployed by APT41 in a telecommunications network provider in support of Chinese espionage efforts. APT41’s operations have included state-sponsored cyber espionage missions as well as financiallymotivated intrusions. Observed victims to date are high-ranking military and government officials traditionally of interest to the Chinese government. Their stolen communications cover a wide range of topics to include: military topics, intelligence efforts, political movements at odds with China, and named senior Chinese leaders. There are virtually no actions a user can take to protect these messages on their devices or even gain awareness to this activity. All activity from MESSAGETAP occurs at the service provider level based on observed APT41 actions and a detailed study of the tool.

DATA CENTRE   //  INTERVIEW

HUGE GAP IN INDIAN DC INFRASTRUCTURE TRIGGERED HIRANANDANI GROUP TO LAUNCH YOTTA Spread over 8.2 lakh sq.ft., Yotta Infrastructure by Hiranandani Group will have a capacity of 7,200 racks. The company is aiming for an Uptime of Tier-IV facility. The company’s blueprint suggests 11 buildings in total with a combined capacity of 60,000 racks and 500 MW of Power with capability to provide services i.e. managed IT services, connectivity, security, hybrid multi-cloud, and data center build services. What are the factors that have led to this massive surge in the Indian DC market? There’s data explosion happening like never before, and it is only going to increase in the near future. Enterprises are adopting cloud-only models, consumers are increasingly consuming online content and government’s push to digitisation are all factors leading to demand for scalable data centers. A report by datacentremap says that India has around 540 million active internet users but has an abnormally low data center capacity of less than 700 MW capacity. There is a huge business opportunity in India’s DC market and we are already witnessing the entry of large global and Indian companies in this space. What has led you to expand your operations to the Indian DC Market? Data growth in India has increased manifold due to the emergence of new technologies, internet and smartphone penetration, enterprise digitisation and data localisation norms. Hence, to manage all the data that’s created, there is a burgeoning demand for highly scalable data centers in the country. Industry reports suggest that there’s a huge gap in the data center infrastructure in India and the corresponding data storage needs. The country currently requires developing 15 times more data center capacity to address the ever-increasing data storage needs of digital India. The Hiranandani Group identified this gap and being one of the largest real estate players in the country, they own the required resources –land banks, construction, power generation and distribution, to foray into the DC space, and

launched Yotta Infrastructure in July. What is your strategy as you venture into the Indian DC market? Normally premium services come at premium prices. Our strategy is to challenge this notion by offering the highest quality at the lowest price. And we can do this by leveraging our economies of scale since we own our land assets, construction and power distribution. Currently, our team is working towards launching the first data center building in our data center park in Panvel. Spread over 8.2 lakh sq.ft., it will have a capacity of 7,200 racks and will be almost 45% bigger than the largest data center in India. We are aiming for an Uptime Institute certified Tier-IV facility. We would also be providing a suite of data center services such as managed IT services, connectivity, security, hybrid multi-cloud, and data center build services to our customers. Over the next couple of years, we plan to build five such buildings in Navi Mumbai, two in Mumbai and four in Chennai. Our blueprint talks about 11 buildings in total with a combined capacity of 60,000 racks and 500 MW of Power. Given that the Indian Data center market already has a good number of players, how do you plan to differentiate yourself from the long-established competition? I have been working in the Data Center industry for over 27 years, and having worked with multiple players in the past, I realised that the rate at which data is exploding would need unlimited scalability accompanied with scalable power infrastructure. Yotta is the first data center player

to introduce data center parks spread over 50 acres. By utilizing the amenities from our group company, we have been able to come up with a cost-effective proposition for our customers. We are also the first and only Indian data center company with a captive solar power plant. 30 per cent of the power consumption in our Panvel data center will be generated in an eco-friendly environment from a 279-acre solar power plant near Goa. These reduced costs will be also be transferred to our end customers. Along with this, we will build hyper-density, hyper-scalable Uptime Institute Certified Tier 4 data centre and provide co-location solutions to enterprises. What is the investment you are working with and by when do you expect to be ready with the infrastructure? We are a 100% subsidiary of the Hiranandani Group. The plan is to invest INR 15,000 crores over the next 5-7 years to set up data centers at prime locations across the country. The first building at Hiranandani Fortune City in Panvel is scheduled to go live by end of December 2019. How will your data centres be powered? The most prominent source for power generation is thermal energy but it is not environment friendly. Being an environmentally aware brand, we wanted to reduce the impact while still maintaining efficiency. Our data center in Panvel will use solar power to satiate 30 per cent of our power requirements generated by another group company. NOVEMBER 2019    ENTERPRISE IT WORLD

With the enterprises embarking on the Digital Transformation journey, the impetus of making the organization digital enabled, to a large extend, lies with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP).

20 ENTERPRISE IT WORLD    NOVEMBER 2019

What makes ERP so special? The emergence of ERP and the realization of the role of CIOs coincided in the 1990s. Whether the evolving nature of Database Management

created the necessity for a CIO or not can only be conjectured now. But the significance of ERP with respect to the role of a CIO cannot be emphasised enough.

A research by The Aberdeen Group states that lack of ERP software can lead to redundant data (35%), unaligned business systems (33%), and the inability to track business processes in real-time (28%). Especially now when Data occupies the central stage in any organization, a technology system like ERP becomes extremely crucial. The Evolving ERP Vendor Landscape With the solution-based technology advancements, customers are demanding integration of diverse requirements into one. In response to this, the Traditional ERP Systems are evolving to incorporate a plethora of modules that an organization could benefit from. This includes, but is not limited to Customer Relationship

Management, Human Capital Management, Enterprise Asset Management, Product Lifecycle Management, Product Information Management, Product Data Management, Quality Assurance, Manufacturing Execution System, Supply Chain Management, Transportation Management System and Warehouse Management System. Each of these individual applications is practically an extension of the core ERP System. Through these applications, the traditional ERP System is branching out pervasively throughout the organization. This gives ERP the power to break down the silo-structured database between different business divisions and integrate it, effectively providing a unified view of data across the organization.

ERP Trends With next-gen technologies like Cloud Computing, AI, Big Data & Analytics, and IoT pervading all enterprise systems and solutions, ERP could hardly remain unaffected. Commenting on the evolutionary trends of the ERP industry, Ajay Yadav, Head IT (North), Rail Infrastructure Limited said “ERP system was able to manage Material Management, Production Planning, Plant maintenance accounts, CRM, HRM that quite well. But in the last 05 years or so the evolution of ERP industry has had gone under major changes. Deployment of cloud-based ERP and E-commerce integration, ERP Solution with AI/analytics/IoT, ERP Going Mobile are evolution of ERP industry.”

“One of the key emerging trends driving the ERP market growth is the demand for seamless integration across

several applications and platforms. Adoption of IoT along with ERP is also a growing trend that will lead to making ERP solution intelligent, real-time, and flexible.”

‘Unleashing Exponential Evolution: 2019 ERP Trends’ report by Accenture identifies 5 key drivers of the ERP evolution to follow. Incorporating these actions in your ERP strategy can be crucial for an effective Digital Transformation, with fewer constraints. These key actions are - Treating Cloud as the Gateway to Modernisation, Making your Core Intelligent and Extended, Partnering with Cloud Captains Instead of Traditional Services Firms, Personalising and Amplifying Insights by Converging Data. “The topmost prominent emerging technological trend in the ERP Market that is expected to drive the growth of the ERP market is the userfriendly ERP Systems. The key aim of inclusion of ERP software in the network is making things easy in an organised manner. Hence, the userfriendliness of the software’s interface is the top requirement that will further pave its way towards its adoptability. Attractive dashboard, easy-to-use ERP features and mobility are key factors that will motivate next generation workforce to adopt ERP solutions,” said Arvind Didwania Founder – Solution Enterprises, ANY MY ERP. Out of all the evolving ERP Trends, the one that

22 ENTERPRISE IT WORLD    NOVEMBER 2019

stands out the most is the migration to Cloud. First things first, yes, moving your ERP to the Cloud, will in fact, straight up cut down on the kind of costs that the on-premise, now soon to be legacy system, demands. Particularly for the small and medium sized businesses, the decision to move to the cloud can hardly be counter argued. Cloud Computing eliminates the requirement for organization to purchase and install the hardware and software systems, it consequently speeds the installation process. Back in 2014, when the shift to the Cloud ERP was still in its initial stages, this speeded up installation process was already advocating the cause of the Cloud ERP. According to a survey conducted in 2014 by the industry analyst firm, Mint Jutras, it was reported that ‘respondents with SaaS implementations reached their first go-live milestone 19% faster than those with on-premise solutions’. The balance tilts to the Cloud ERP with benefits like enhanced accessibility of data, high scalability, availability of the latest functionalities through the cloud vendor. Elaborating on why businesses prefer Cloud ERP Arvind Didwania Founder – Solution Enter-

CIOs needed to become smart buyers and to build strategic relationships with vendors and suppliers. Facilitating organization-wide communication and helping to enhance business activities with integrated global system deployments, CIOs gained more privilege and influence than ever in organizations and got increasingly involved in strategic business planning issues.”

prises, ANY MY ERP said, “Businesses prefer a cloud ERP solution because it is cost-effective in terms of purchasing, installing and implementing the software. It even eliminates the cost of hiring IT personnel for installing and maintaining the servers physically in the business network. It offers easier and quicker cloud ERP implementation. Moreover, it ensures omnipresence of data, which allows users to work from anywhere, anytime and access data in real-time, irrespective of their location.” ERP Deployment Options The 2019 ERP Report by Panorama Consulting Solutions listed multiple deployment options that their respondents were looking into. On-Premise continued to be the preference for 37% of the respondents, while SaaS ERP had a 20% deployment rate. Under Cloud ERP the trends showed that multi-tenant system had 21% acceptance among the respondent organizations, single tenant Cloud ERP had a mere 14%. And Hybrid ERP deployment brought up the rear at 9%. Commenting on the deployment of ERP project within the organization, Ajay Yadav,

recovery service methods. As ERPs tend to talk to the suppliers and customers, usage of Blockchain is increasing for ensuring authenticity and lowering the risk of non-repudiation.”

Head IT (North), Rail Infrastructure Limited said, “It should be no surprise that all ERP projects depend on people not only outside, but also inside, the organization. Nevertheless, many organizations think they just need to find a system with a good fit, and they are off to the races. Unfortunately they stumble out of the starting block and sometimes never finish. What they really need are the right people at the right time. Three groups of internal people are usually needed in any ERP project – a steering committee, project manager(s) and subject matter experts.” Parveen Kumar Sharma, CTO & Consultant – I.T., The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India jots down pointers that an organization must take into account while selecting an appropriate ERP product. • The product should meet the functional requirement of the organisation. • The Platform used should be flexible and scalable. • Convenient user interface. • Product should use the current technologies with road map to improve in future. • Suitably priced. • Product should have success stories in the similar domain as ours.

• Local partner support availability. • Product should a have a clear road map for improvement in future with upcoming technologies. ERP and Security The acute apprehensions of organizations with regards to placing the most crucial business data that the ERP comprises of cannot be neglected. Security remains a priority, particularly at a time when data theft, data leaks, security breaches are more than just potential risks. Cyber Attacks are reality that organizations are grappling with every day. Addressing the security question with respect to ERP deployment, Arvind Didwania, Founder – Solution Enterprises, ANY MY ERP said, “In the worst and highest level of severe cyberattacks, an ERP system can provide an effective deterrent. But the only condition is that one must know how to use it. Access control must be extensively applied. Automation of rights-related processes as well as compliance management must be implemented. Enforcement of regulatory compliance, tracking and verifying transactions and conducting regular data audits is also crucial. Most modern ERP systems have built-in access control functionality, empowering manufacturers

to allocate restricted user access.” “Now-a-days the focus on enterprises is more on transactional security i.e. what users can do under authority is the major concern. Thus ERP systems need to comply to GRC Governance, Risk, Control with the need to provide role based access control, biometric or two-factor authentication, notifications or exception reports on suspicious activity and complete traceability with audit log,” said Kumar Vembu, CEO & Founder, GOFRUGAL, sharing his insights on the security aspect of ERP systems. WHERE IS ERP HEADED? From a basic database management system, to a comprehensive solution that integrates all aspects of business operations, ERP has evolved tremendously. But where does it seem to be headed? “Currently ERP mostly focuses on business operations rather than marketing, but in the near future this will change drastically with ERP trying to integrate itself more towards the social networking arena,” opines Parveen Kumar Sharma, CTO & Consultant – I.T., The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. Perhaps, the answer lies not in what ERP can potentially do, but in what the technology leaders can modify it to do. Technology knows no bounds, and the arenas that ERP can branch out to, is just an endless list of possibilities.

FEATURE STORY  //  CLOUDERA

Cloudera Data Platform Incorporates Four Key Attributes of Data Architecture In conversation with Enterprise IT World, Vinod Ganesan, Country Manager, Cloudera elaborates on the scope of the multicloud adoption in the Indian market and how the functionality of Cloudera Data Platform that has a Hybrid & Multicloud Support, is Multifunctional, conforms to Security & Governance and supports Open standards offers a unique offering.

W

ith the enterprise market embarking on a Digital Transformation journey, the business requirements are evolving and technology providers are responding to the changing demands by revolutionizing their offerings. . Multicloud Scenario in the Indian Market The biggest challenge which Indians faced was the law of the land. The strong data sovereignty concept, i.e. Data cannot leave the country was a complication. So, till a couple of years ago, public cloud was a big challenge because all the giants who operated in this space never had data centers in India. But over the last two years, that has changed tremendously. Now with multiple tiers four data centers set up across the country, the biggest challenge of sovereignty which didn’t allow people to adopt public cloud has been rectified. There is a very strong propensity amongst the enterprise customers to start looking at public cloud adoption. A lot of people look at cloud from cost perspective, believing it to be a cost-effective alternative. However, it is actually dependent on the function of the workload that is being run. For example, a persistent workload which runs every day for eight hours and consumes a fixed set of resources, when moved to a public cloud, would actually be

26 ENTERPRISE IT WORLD    NOVEMBER 2019

more expensive compared to running it in-house. Taking into account the increasing market demand for a comprehensive Data Cloud Platform, Cloudera has released its platform in the Indian market. The offering constitutes of the baseline for the fundamental data architecture that is required for organizations to transform. These unique key attributes are - Hybrid and Multicloud Support, Multifunctional, Security & Governance and Open Source. Hybrid and Multicloud Support This is the main ingredient which lends the agility that organizations are looking for in their data transformation journey. Multifunctional Different businesses come with their own requirements. In order to service them you need to have the capability to run different types of workloads on the same platform. For example, somebody might come with the operational data warehouse or an AI-ML based use case. Each of these workloads actually puts a very different type of pressure on the underlying architecture. Previously everything was being dealt separately. Everybody had their own environments, which created a lot of silos. Now, customers are demanding a single platform that can typically run and enable all these use cases. This brings in the multifunction aspect of the platform.

Security and Governance There is a classic conflict between business and IT. Business expects IT to work at a particular pace in terms of launching new initiatives or analyzing certain segment and coming back with what opportunity exists there. And rightly so, because in today’s world, that window of opportunities is open for a very limited time. So if you don’t capitalize within that window, you would have lost that advantage. So, they put a lot of pressure for IT to support these initiatives. IT in its own sense is plagued by the challenges associated with security and governance. They cannot compromise on these values because obviously it has far-fetching consequences. The value of data is compromised. So they are not able to turn around at the pace at which business wants them to go. So, some businesses find themselves turning to a public cloud provider or wherever and try to run this particular initiative. This creates a shadow IT where there are inherent security and risk associated with that kind of an approach. So, IT is being increasingly seen as what keeps the organization in sync. How do you now enable security and governance provided that one consistent framework, irrespective of where your data is? The moment you say hybrid and multicloud capabilities, there is a necessity to have these capabilities without compromising on the underlying security, which becomes the third fundamental premise.

New tools, techniques and adoption of digital assets have resulted into modern and challenging cyber threats leaving organizations paralyzed. According to Check Point’s mid year trends report, some of the major trends identified in 2019, are as follows: • Advance Email Attacks: There has been an increase in email scams involving blackmailing such as “Sextortion” and “Business Email Compromise” (BEC). The email scammers have also increased the use of evasion techniques in order to bypass email security solutions. • Cloud Breaches: With cloud becoming an increasingly popular source to store data, it’s becoming apparent that relying on cloud providers is not enough. Based on the reports from threat Intelligence team of Check Point, poor management of the cloud resources remain the most prominent threats to the cloud ecosystem with massive data theft being the most common attack employed against it. • Mobile Evolution: Trends in 2019 show that more than 35% of organizations have been

impacted by a mobile attack. There has been a sharp rise of almost 50% in mobile banking trojans infiltrating mobile arena’s when compared with the statistics of 2018. It is interesting to note that that according to Check Point’s threat intelligence unit, an organization in India was attacked on an average of 1,767 times per week in the last 6 months, compared to the global average of just 595 attacks per organization. What is the potential impact of cyber-attack on the India market? Digital transformation is eroding traditional network perimeters with the adoption of cloud computing, cloud-based subscription services, and the ubiquity of mobile devices. The increased expansion of vectors means more ways to attack an organization. Keeping in view of the latest trends, cyber attackers have become increasingly sophisticated and have already started to perpetrate next generation crimes such as data theft, fraud, identify theft, etc. Most businesses are not prepared for cyber attacks today. They are trying to protect their IT environments against 2019 attack technology with security technology from 10 years ago that relies on detection only. They are stuck in the world of 2nd and 3rd generation security, which only protects against viruses, application attacks, and payload delivery. What this means is that networks, virtualized data centers, cloud environments, and mobile devices are left exposed. The key to cyber defence is an end-to-end cyber security architecture that is multi-layered and spans all networks, endpoint and mobile devices, and cloud. How is the end consumer affected in such a scenario? A cyber attack can maliciously disable computers, steal data, or use a breached computer as a launch point for other attacks. Cybercriminals use a variety of methods, including malware, phishing, ransomware, denial of service, among others. Consumers should be vigilant to keep their phone’s operating system and apps up to date. Any time you provide a personal identifiable information, you should question the legitimacy and applicability. One person or a weakly enforced legislation will not deter poor practices or ill intents. Only through awareness and social encouragement can we protect ourselves against the next identify theft or social engineering

attacks. When it comes to emails or messages on social media, consumers should be mindful about clicking on any links (or any part of the message) sent through any digital communication means. They need to exercise caution and discretion when tempted to interact with such means of communications. What are Check Point’s offerings when it comes to providing its customers with a wholesome security portfolio? Cybercrime and attacks are on a prowl. Organizations realize the importance of security solutions and the standard security solutions are not strong enough to protect devices and networks in workplaces. The new and modern solutions must detect new and advanced malware and vulnerabilities in networks, operations systems and apps, cloud etc. The security “generation gap’’ identified, needs to be filled by deploying evolved security infrastructures combined with real time threat prevention, shared intelligence and advanced security across all enterprise environments. Check Point’s Infinity Architecture solution is a fully consolidated cyber security architecture that provides unprecedented protection against Gen V mega-cyber attacks as well as future cyber threats across all networks, endpoint, cloud and mobile. The architecture is designed in a manner that resolves the complexities of growing connectivity and inefficient security. What is your strategy for safeguarding your clients’ data? Check Point Data Loss Prevention (DLP) Software Blade combines technology and processes to revolutionize DLP, helping businesses to preemptively protect sensitive information from unintentional loss, educating users on proper data handling policies and empowering them to remediate incidents in real-time. DELL EMC POWERONE Dell EMC PowerOne autonomous infrastructure allows to deploy, manage and consume IT easier for organizations. PowerOne integrates PowerEdge compute, PowerMax storage, PowerSwitch networking and VMware virtualization into a single system combined with a built-in intelligence engine to automate thousands of manual steps over its lifecycle. At the heart of PowerOne’s autonomous operations is a built-in, advanced automation engine. PowerOne empowers users to focus on their business, whether that means deploying workloads, applications, or developing new products and services. Much like lane assist, navigation and other features in autonomous vehicles, the vehicle does most operations on its own while the passenger must let the car know the desired destination. PowerOne’s advanced automation allows administrators to state a desired business outcome – and the system calculates the best way to do the rest. The automation engine takes advantage of a Kubernetes microservices architecture and uses Ansible workflows to assist users by automating the component configuration and provisioning, delivering a customer-managed datacenter-as-a-service. PowerOne provides a single system-level application programming interface (API), giving users the control to create business objective-specific pools of resources. This API can be tied into existing tools, such as service portals, to deliver programmable versus manual IT operations. This is known as Infrastructure as Code – virtually eliminating the need to log in to individual component management systems. With PowerOne, organizations can create workload-ready VMware clusters in only a few clicks. PowerOne is designed to deliver the services, security and resiliency required by mission critical and emerging artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) applications while providing easy integration into cloud management toolsets, such as VMware vRealize. Joining the Dell Technologies Cloud family as a validated design, Dell EMC PowerOne helps customers simplify their path to hybrid cloud by combining the power of Dell EMC infrastructure with VMware cloud software. This helps remove the complexity of managing multiple clouds by bringing consistent infrastructure and operations across private clouds, public clouds, and edge locations.
