TRIANGULAR

During the avant garde era triangular shapes, type, design etc. were used a lot. For this concept the basic foundation design will exist off a 3 pointed geometric object. It may be presented proportional or skewed but ultimately the triangular object will ultimately be enclosed. Color will be used to add depth and a further “pushing of the boundaries” to achieve a desirable and aesthetically pleasing geometric presentation.

While further pursuing a triangular direction; pattern, image creation and typographical elements can be achieved if executed correctly. Triangles combined with other triangles can present a more dynamic broader image that in return perceives something completely different.

Movement. Dimension. Perspective. These are all characteristics and inspiration for pursuing this concept. Minimal colors, simplistic yet with a hint of complexity will aid to a spacial design. The idea of objects in a design being protruded against itself is fascinating and can lead to a very interesting execution on the goggle helmet integration. Color unity or lack there of could pull the design together or allow the spacial execution to pop.

SEAL TALK

Iconic seal designs seem to be very dry and non-informational. With developing a relevant and foundational seal for goggle and helmet integration, the Smith story and continued passion could be explored and told through graphic and typographical execution. Upon pursuit, limiting a potential seal design living in a circle would be unwise but should not counted out. Upon completion the seal could be used as a patch or partial to whole application.

OCCUPY

Occupying space, city streets, the internet etc. has made quite a bit of stir lately. The idea of taking up areas in the masses is the inspiration for Occupy. With the foundational idea of a mass gathering, the design application inspires the medium of pointillism. What would pointillism look like carried over to a helmet goggle combo? The strap could be one color, helmet application could be another. That could possible add depth by association.

THE ASPEN / TREE LINE

The aspen tree is very iconic for the western mountain life. The tree itself offers many attributes that could be carried over to helmet goggle integration. Repetition, texture, muted colors etc. I think color could be applied as a “coating” effect spreading across the design adding a nice flow to the design. Presenting the Smith logo mark could also be explored via the texture or in a more literal way.

FIRST TRACKS

First tracks was inspired by all that it stands for. The emotion one has for being the “first” to ride pow, explore backcountry or hike to the ultimate experience. It also has an amazing sense of tranquility and stillness which is shadowed by the absolute beauty of the world. Further design execution could explore and play off of the “first” idea through color and imagery.

LEATHER BURN

Leather is timeless and rugged. It offers good solid colors you can grab on to. The idea and execution presents itself give and take wear and tear. For this concept pushing the boundaries of executing the leather style through color, process and presentation would be pursued. The deboss effect would be with pursuing whether it be in a patch or design manipulation.

LEATHER BURN TYPE

Further pushing leather burn would be a creation of a design element mimicking the branding application. Branding anything leaves a distinct application. It leaves behind character and identifies something worth noticing. It also adds another layer of dimension and texture to the already established foundational product. Patch, strap and other exploration would be relevant in this case.
