Ms. Perkins, growing up in a family with strong support, values, and always having positive influences and guidance has been able to succeed in most facets of life. In contrast, it was her very own experience of growing up in underserviced areas that she was able to see how significant a difference there can be in young women who do not have a strong support system and the benefit of cultural exposure. It is because of Ms. Perkins’ vision, dedication, selflessness and desire to share her own story to help uplift young women that led to the creation of her very own nonprofit. In December, 2010, My Legacy Foundation, a 501 c(3) non profit organization was created to address the educational and social needs of our future leaders. The foundation was created after realizing the need of young inner city girls to gain positive exposure to activities that they may have limited access to. In 2013, My Legacy Foundation, Inc

reached a momentous milestone in their mission, and made the decision to incorporate young preteen and teen boys into their program. In 2014, My Legacy will host their 1st Annual Youth Weekend Empowerment Camp for over 100 teens to include 50 young girls and 50 young boys; The first ever of its kind in Houston, TX!

My Legacy strongly believes that personal growth is the product of exposing youth to various cultural activities outside of their everyday norm. This year the organization will hold its camp in Livingston, TX where the My Legacy Empowerment Camp will boast three full days, and two nights of logcabin accommodations, motivational speaking from successful business owners, military officials, educators and many more! In addition, the campers will attend a wide array of workshops with varying topics engaging our youth in mentoring, leadership skills, interview dynamics, public speaking, self esteem, journal writing, health and fitness, and more! Campers also participate in fun activities such as canoeing, archery, fishing, team building,

hiking, bonfires, and an exciting welcome ceremony! Since its inception, My Legacy Foundation has received numerous accolades and recognitions in a very short time span. The organization and its founder have been featured in publications such as DMars Community Magazine, the Houston Chronicle, Houston Style Magazine, as well publications for the University of Texas. My Legacy Foundation, Inc. has also been bestowed with the honor of nonprofit of the month, and was recently honored with an official mayoral proclamation honoring her with an official My Legacy Foundation Day, by Houston’s honorable Mayor Annise D.
